This is probably the most difficult piece written for a tenor, and he nails everything! A truly historical performance. The coloratura, the elegant phrasing, and those ringing high Cs and high Ds......

Im not sure this is even the most difficult thing ROSSINI wrote for a tenor. The roles of Pirro and Otello are both written A2-D5, and absolutely filled with these leaps and coloratura runs. His vocal lines look like my violin music lol

Mi spiace ma non sono d' accordo. E' molto bravo ma blake e' piu in alto. Penso che Blake in rossini e' irragiungibile per chiunque.

To come in and sing (as the opening aria for the character of prince Ilo) one of the most difficult arias ever and make it sound so clear and perfect is amazing. This aria is considered by some to be almost "unsingable" live as it is so difficult, and he makes it sound so easy. His high notes are clear and brilliant and his musicality is always superb. This was the reason I bought the bluray, even though I am not a fan of the way it was staged.

Personalmente a mi me gusta muchísimo mas JDF, que Blake, primero por la belleza de su timbre, y el color de su voz, sin desmerecer por favor a Blake que es un enorme tenor, y con razón es llamado Mr Fiato. pero un tenor, te conquista por sus armonicos, su timbre, y el terciopelo de su color...como nos conquisto Pavarotti.

Yo me he rendido a Flórez en su mejor y adecuado repertorio, y no negaré que aquí en Rossini es magnífico, y más por los rarísimos tenores capaces de cantar al Rossini serio con minima y tolerable solvencia. Pero ahora afirmó que, partitura en mano, en las óperas napolitanas de Rossini que exigen absoluto dominio de la coloratura y más si es "minuta coloratura, lo supera completamente Blake. Pero también en su variedad expresiva, capaz en los agudos, medias voces, messa di voce, variedad de emisión y por ahí seguidamente. Pero también por la extensión vocal pero con cuerpo y fuerza expresiva de Blake. Y añado por su capacidad de aligerar mucho la voz pero también oscurecerla. Y a dar notas centrales con cuerpo y notas graves también, como era capaz de hacer Blake. En esto la bella voz de Florez es menos capaz fuera de su mejor registro (no fuerte ni con expresión dramática en el central y menos en el grave, ¡y esto también lo exige Rossini en estas partituras!!!). Flórez destaca de verdad aquí, en un margen más 'eatrecho': a partir del paso de la voz y mejor cuanto más alto ya en el agudo. Este es mi criterio y cada cual es libre de criticarme y opinar de otro modo.- Blas Cortés

More or less I understand what you have written (I don’t know Spanish...) and I am not a music expert (I don’t have musical education) and this is my remark - an answer to your - undoubtedly very competent - post: Regardless the fluency, easness or vocal skills and competence in specific vocal registers there is something very important, crucial for sensitive though not musically educated listener - the general aesthetic and emotional impression. In this „duel” JDF is an unbeatable favourite and giant in comparison with Rockwell Blake. Blake has an awfully ugly voice and his performances sometimes are grotesque to me. JDF has an extremelly beautiful voice, with fascinating, mesmerizing timbre, brilliance and dynamics. We can hear it here in all its incomparable beauty. JDF sings with real bravado, his stage charisma is unquestionable. Blake often - unwillingly - is comical. Of course this is only my opinion and impression. I have written this without a dictionary (English is not my native language) - hope it’s understandable and free from too many mistakes...

I agree with you ! , though I wouldn t be so sharp towards Blake ! But I find JD ' voice and Acting better!

Pani Anno w pełni się z Panią zgadzam, właśnie odsłuchałam nagranie tej samej arii w wykonaniu Blake'a z 1992 r. Uważam, że głos Juan Diego brzmi o wiele piękniej i techniczne jest bardziej doskonały. A swoją drogą ta aria jest niesamowita, a Rossini to prawdziwy sadysta dla tenorów i oczywiście jesteśmy mu bardzo wdzięczni za to!🌝
