"Hasta Que Te Conocí" ("Until I Met You") is a song written, produced, and performed by Mexican singer-songwriter Juan Gabriel. It was released in 1986 as the third single from his studio album Pensamientos. In the song, the protagonist learns the meaning of suffering after meeting a lover who mistreats him.
The song has been recorded by several artists including Roberto del Castillo, Ana Gabriel, Marc Anthony, Raúl di Blasio, and Maná.Gabriel received an American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Latin award in 1994 and in 2013 for Anthony's and Maná's covers of the song.
"Hasta Que Te Conocí" is a song written, produced, and performed by Mexican singer-songwriter Juan Gabriel as the final track on Juan Gabriel's studio album Pensamientos (1986).

Juan Gabriel was a prolific songwriter Indeed. He wrote around 1,800 songs. Has sold an estimated 60 million records worldwide. The emotion he puts into his songs will move you to tears even if you don’t understand the language. Great choice for broadening our musical horizons. Always love your analysis and appreciation of all music.

Juan Gabriel was a master, my greatest compliment to him is simply “¡Artista!”(Artist!) This performance is from what one could say is the most important music festival in the Spanish speaking world. The music festival of Viña Del Mar, Chile. During this concert Juan Gabriel won several awards from the jury and public. The public of this festival is known as “el monstruo”, the monster. The monster is known to be silent or even whistle when displeased but it rewards artists that have earned its respect and love. Lastly, you mentioned that Juan Gabriel’s voice almost gave out at the end and that is because he had just finished singing “ASÍ FUE” not 20 seconds earlier. (A gorgeous song.) Please listen to “así fue” from this concert. I truly enjoyed watching you experiencing this great treasure of an artist! Thank you!

I love this concert from Viña Del Mar. I remember being 16 years old when I watched this on Univision in the US. This concert made me cry, it endeared me to him. The concert made me want to go to one of his concerts but I was never lucky enough! The song “Asi Fue” from this concert is my favorite. Thank you for sharing this marvelous Mexican singer with your English speaking viewers. 🙏🏼

Little known fact. He almost just became a writer and not a singer of his songs. His dream was to have celebrities of the time sing his songs. Jose Enrique Okamura, artistic director of RCA asked him, “Why don’t you interpret your own songs?” In my opinion, it was Jose Enrique Okamura, not Eduardo Magallanes the one that had more influence in discovering this awesome legend. Eduardo Magallanes was the one that approved his first album, but many forget that his first contact before being imprisoned and after, was José Enrique Okamura. He also had influence in him changing his artistic name from Adan Luna to Juan Gabriel. I know this straight from Mr. Okamura’s recount, who is my uncle.
