Right around the time Painkiller came out, I saw Rob Halford perform in a small rock bar in Phoenix called the Mason Jar. It was fucking epic. He performed about 15 Priest songs with a backup band. They opened up with Solar Angel. I was a mere few feet from the stage and grabbed the set list off the stage after the show. I will take that show to the grave with me. I also have seen Priest three times, the first being the Defenders of the Faith tour. Fucking love the mighty Judas Priest.🤘🏻

Take it from an older guy like me. Life can be tough at times. You don't know when or how hard, we are all on different paths. But I can tell you that during my toughest times when everything else was crap, it was great metal like this that pulled me through. It never allows for depression like some music does. It is strong music, music that tells you to stand on your own two feet and don't take no shit from people. This is such a positive song in every sense of the word. And there will be times in your life where you'll need it just like I did

One of those bands that you could see them play a song like this along with about 18 other rare others, without them playing their top 20 songs of all time (which would be tough to decide in the first place) and you could walk away from the show drained and completely satisfied ... that's how great they are.

@@joetrimble7953 To me, 80's Iron Maiden is the best single malt whiskey you can enjoy. Saxon and the inventors of thrash, Metallica too. Judas Priest are a great band who have produced some great albums, but to say Iron Maiden and Metallica are "blended piss" is very false indeed.

Loved the lyrics of their songs, and this album was such a classic in my teens (my friends and I discovered it around '91). One of those albums where every song was good (Grinder was kinda lame but tolerable haha). Anyways, this song spoke to me, especially the end part: "I'll do as I please, fend for myself, call all the shots, roll the dice. All on my own gonna go it alone if I need it, then I'll ask for advice!"
@DjAsianTech9 жыл бұрын
You don't have to be young to ROCK HARD! Rob's voice has gotten stronger as he got older.
@Metallion698 жыл бұрын
+DjAsianTech I have to disagree with you on this one...He completely destroyed his vocal chords on the Ram it Down Tour in 1988. I think even him realized that, after that tour he started to get lazy on stage, like he didn't give a fuck anymore...there is some good bootleg footage up on youtube from the Ram it Down Tour. It's well worth it to check it out. That's where Rob was at his best...
@LinkyHYC8 жыл бұрын
+Metallion69 I don't think you can call him lazy on the Painkiller tour. However, his voice was kinda weak, yes, and the Ram it down album/tour + Painkiller album probably was the cause of it. But keep in mind that on the Painkiller tour, tensions were high within the band (leading to the departure of Halford a couple of years later) and that Priest just got out of a terrifying court case that was still haunting Rob a decade later.

@freddyferrillo97045 жыл бұрын
Scott can't touch Dave's finesse when it comes to the classic Priest songs. Scott is really a double bass style drummer. And he has a hard time holding back on the classic Priest songs, all of which never had double bass. Nor do they require it. Scott sounds to much like a metronome or a machine/robot. But Scott does great for the Painkiller album. I just think he doesn't play the classic Priest properly. Especially the Dave Holland songs. (Which is the whole British Steel album).

Glenn Tipton has always been a big fan of wearing stage costumes made up of combinations of red, black, white, chrome, and gray. I custom built a road racing bicycle in tribute to Glenn using that exact color scheme as I'm a huge fan of his. Took me damned near 9 years to complete, but talk about a good looker and fast rider. It turns heads every time I go out riding. Smiles, honks, thumbs up, etc. It's all good. I always give all that notice a wave and a smile.
