Nice to hear stories about Norman Lloyd. I saw Howie's first HBO special and then saw him on St. Elsewhere. I was only 12 y/o and St. Elsewhere was a bit over my head sometimes but I was a devoted fan of the show. Just rewatched it recently and it cemented itself as a top 10 show all time for me. The entire cast was amazing, and Lloyd in particular brought such a unique kindness and authentic vibe to his role. One of the most underrated actors of all time. Thanks Howie and Judd for sharing.

The fact that so many attacked The Bubble and said it was terrible makes me realize people do not want true entertainment anymore. They say they want less politics in movies but when they get it, they crap all over it. The Bubble was one of the most entertaining, funny movies I have seen in recent years. It is so absurd and silly. It's exactly what we all need more of but people can't tell what a good movie is anymore.

One of the all-time funniest extended bits in a comedy film was that scene in "Knocked Up" where Leslie Mann & Katherine Heigl are trying to get into the trendy nightclub, and Leslie angrily lays into the bouncer, Craig Robinson, who doesn't want to let them in. Instead of having him stiffen up his resolve, as the typical hack comedy movie would do, Craig the Bouncer responds by completely crumbling and admitting that Leslie is right; he hates himself for how he passes judgement on people, etc. etc., almost to the point of crying.

In the world of Canadian TV, what Howie said is nowadays usually true: The creative execs often just cut out the writers, essentially hiring themselves as writers, and as a result the shows are always unfunny and terrible. But if the whole industry is just untalented creative execs making bad TV shows, nobody notices except the viewers

If I’m an architect designing a house and the professional carpenter or electrician or concrete guy I hired tells me there might be a better way to do a certain thing and I tell him to just do it the way I said, then I’m an asshole and a shitty architect. These writer/directors that insist on nothing but their words because of some idea they had in their head are not artists. Real artists care more about the final product then they do about their ego. Guys like Judd always try to be nice about it but that’s exactly what he’s thinking too. And he’s right.
