I am so happy people are finally listen to Judee Sill. I got her albums out of bargin bins in NYC back in the early 70s for $1 apiece. Beautiful melodies, but nobody seemed to care much back then. Now they finally getting it.

Back in 73 late one night when I was 11, I heard Jesus a Was A Crossmaker on the radio and it saved my life (she and I had a whole lot in common) - but this version of The Donor is now my favourite song of hers, she really pours herself out into it. So much love for her. I'm no Christian and her songs are the only Christian songs I can bear to listen to ❤️

I just discovered her a couple of days ago........Howard Stern, of all people, mentioned her on his show. Imagine that!! So, I checked her out. I am totally captivated by her emotional songwriting and hauntingly beautiful voice........it's a crying shame she didn't make it big. 😔

After seeing her sing The Kiss on the Old Grey Whistle and ending up in tears, I’ve been hooked and now have her records. But what a tragic life and regarded herself as a failure.

I love The Kiss so much I purposely skip it when I listen to Heart Food. There's a great BBC documentary on here where Andy Partridge has to shut it off he's so moved by it.

Only just discovered Judee Sill, her double CD was in my late brother's record collection of which we're cataloging. What an amazing artist and so underrated at the time. Brilliant!

She decided she didn't deserve a break because she squandered hers in "weird places." What a life. I prefer this version to the studio version with all the vocal overdubs. Here, her voice is naked, unadulterated beauty.
@harmoniabalanza6 жыл бұрын
She didn't realize her "break" was the music? Wow. God obviously spoke through her. And Christ forgave her vices as he did those of the hordes he fraternized with. That's why he was loved. His forgiveness gave people hope.

I like the adornments of the album version as much as the vocals here, but if there was a way to combine them.....then she'd be approaching a level unmatched by anything in popular music.

That comment really solidifies how sad her story was. This song pierces me to the core. I love hearing her sing this live. The album cut is a masterpiece. What an artist.

When I hear her it's so intense that it helps to think that she really is still alive in her music. If I had been her friend I would never have let her die. Well, that's easy to say.

i`ve never heard any artist who was so melodically rich with and be so overlooked. Not underrated. There is a difference.

She had a rough childhood; her Father died, and her Mother remarried someone who abused her, so she left her home. She met a guy who introduced her to Heroin, also had a relationship with JD Souther, who left her for Linda Ronstadt. She also "outed" David Geffen's'homosexuality, and he, being very powerful in the Biz, had her blackballed from the Industry. She died of Heroin overdose in 1979. RIP.,

Excellent songwriting. The studio track of this is absolutely stunning. If you don't know about Judee Sill, read up on her. There are a few articles about her online, other than Wikipedia. Interesting woman, and this track, the last one on her last album, is testament to her talent.

Gorgeous work, inspirational music. Thanks for posting in such great audio quality too. I'm passing along to my musical pals who probably have no idea about this woman. The magic times of music 1964-1974 ... I wish the same musical ethic prevailed today. But of course pop music now - no minor keys, no great melodies, don't test anyone's attention span, no verse-chorus-bridge-or modulations, no musical interest song-wise. Let's compress/smash it down and create music that's like an action movie

this is great.. she sings the truth beautifully.. maybe why she couldn't stop herself talking frankly about coming out...though I think the lack of commercial success at the time may have been due to Judee being too far ahead of the curve.. this girl's music will outlive us ..love this song... it is a shame she fell out with Geffen as I would have liked to hear more of this...thanks seventeenboi for uploading.
