This isn't a reupload of my older SNES longplay ( • Judge Dredd | SNES Lon... ), but a newer, a bit tighter this time I hope, playthrough, in better video quality. I thought the intro should also be included, I think it makes sense for playthroughs of a movie-based game to include a short clip from the film.
Even though this film was never thought of as a "proper" Dredd movie, more like a Stallone action/sci-fi vehicle with the name Judge Dredd slapped on it, see this great analysis about the ways this film was actually influnced from 2000 AD.

Damn. I was 8, my parents presented Super Nintendo on my Birthday and this was one and only game for 2 or 3 years. Even now I remembered almost every corner of it. 26 years ago....

This is actually looks like a pretty good platform shooter/run 'n' gun game on SNES. Nice pixel art, nice sound, gameplay looks solid, etc.

Nice job, this game looks a bit long and tedious but overall pretty fun. I rather enjoy these type of retrogames.

By the way--and I just noticed this when I tried to compare this footage to your footage of the Genesis version--why are you playing the SNES version stretched in this more recent video, which not only distorts the SNES graphics slightly so circles are no longer proper circles and squares no longer proper squares and so on, but also blurs the visuals too, when you played it in pixel perfect mode previously, which allows for properly crisp and clear and correctly proportioned visuals?

Yes, you're right. After suggestions and requests, I looked more into online discussions, articles, videos etc. on the aspect ratio of 2D games, and thought that maybe the ideal way to present playthrough videos of 16-bit games is 4:3, but still, it's a matter of preference. Old VGA DOS games are 320x200 (16:10), Capcom CPS arcade games are 384x224, their native aspect is much friendlier to 16:9 monitors compared to the SNES 8:7, I have uploaded such videos in the past, but still, the right way to show them is maybe 4:3. In case you haven't, check out these good videos on aspect ratio by the channel Displaced Gamers, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdmcqLeYy9HInJs.html - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9yTntyI3a6leas.html - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gq6Wg6Rl05a4gqM.html

@@silenig The problem with only displaying them in 4:3 for the entirety of the video is that it stretches and blurs the SNES visuals but not the Genesis ones, and other than being stuck playing these games on original hardware on old CRT TVs, nobody has to view SNES games stretched and blurred like that now if they don't want to. I like when you have the video switch between 4:3 and 8:7/pixel perfect modes at regular intervals, with labels indicating which mode it's currently in, so that everyone gets a taste of what they want and all viewing options are fairly represented. I think that's better than only showing these SNES games in a way that does not do them full justice and ends up making any comparisons to the same games on Genesis basically unfair because they're not being shown equally in their best light.

I admit to being a bit old fashioned when it comes to these things, but in no way it's deliberate to favour one console over the other. I just try to do what feels right at any moment, judging by what I know and what I have learned from others. When I started uploading I was insistent on native aspect. Then I adopted 4:3 for longplays, which was already widely used by many who upload retro gameplay, and switching the resolution between native and 4:3 for the 2-screen videos. These videos aren't even "versus", their aim is to show how the two versions look next to each other, how one might have the edge over the other in some aspect, while being inferior in another, seeing both games playing concurrently, not necessarily decide "X is better therefore system X is better" etc. I agree that the MD/SNES games have been around in some form of emulation for much longer compared to their original cycle. The 16-bits were in the limelight for 6-7 years, emulators have been around for more than 20, and even Wii Virtual Console is more than 10 years old. Yes, a lot of people have experienced these games without ever owning a CRT. The 2-screen videos already have switching resolutions, I might see if this works for SNES longplays too.

@@silenig I take back some of what I said and have adjusted my previous to last comment accordingly. My main thing here is just that both 16-bit systems and their games are represented in their best light, and, as I mentioned in my last comment, I like when you switch back and forth between the various display ratios as that allows people to see how it affects each console and its games. What I just don't want is for Genesis fanboys [who have become rampant in recent times] to claim that SNES games are all blurry purely based on them having watched videos where the SNES games are always stretched, as though that's an inherent issue with the SNES when it's really not, especially not today where they can simply view them in pixel perfect mode if they're looking for razor sharp visuals. Yeah, doing the ratio switching in the SNES longplay videos would be ideal (probably on the Genesis ones too, as even there the different ratios have a subtle good/bad effect on its visuals). Thanks.
