Күн бұрынAs you know, Jimmy is much more than just a beloved TV talk show host, he is also a respected TV Judge. For the past 35 years, he has been ruling on cases with the help of his trusty bailiff Guillermo and after a long break from the law, they are back in the courtroom. These are real cases with actual litigants who for some reason decided to put their legal fate in the hands of “Judge James.” In this case, the plaintiff Tiffany is suing her hair stylist Marlene for $1200 claiming that a haircut was so bad she was forced to stay home for days. Since Tiffany had shown a photo of Meagan Good as an example of what she wanted, we invited Meagan to the courtroom to help with the ruling.

As an attorney, I found this really entertaining and I'm impressed that Jimmy made the correct ruling. He returned the parties to the status quo ante. Good job, Judge James!

Hector: Something similar happened in the 1950s when a Gonzalez Gonzalez was on the Groucho Marx quiz show. He was so funny and so entertaining that when some of the people in Hollywood saw it, they wanted him to be in some movies and he got to make some movies with John Wayne and others.

The plaintiff paid $100, got a $60 partial refund from the shop owner, the $40 judgment was the appropriate amount to make her whole. That was the right call based on the "expert" testimony.

If you happen to give Kylie Jenner a bad $100 haircut, and she misses two days of "work," now you have to pay her $200,000‽ Or she decides she's going to cover up the bad cut with a $500,000 wig, you have to pay for that too? Maybe her $70,000 therapy sessions too? Nope, you're responsible for your damages, that's it. The rest is up to her.

(You can claim your court index filing fee, which was likely covered by the show when they took the case from a small claims docket, and maybe your legal costs, though generally not in a small claims type setting)

@@pataplan Damages to a client is not based on what you can afford to pay. And yes, if she had to buy wigs to remedy the damage to her 'property' as a result of your action, it could be argued to be part of your liability. It's the same reason insurance companies pay for a replacement vehicle while your damaged car is being repaired. If you damage Oprah's Ferrari, guess what your insurance is liable to replace? Her Ferrari, it doesn't matter whether you were driving a Picanto and your insurance is on that Picanto or not. Damages are dependent on the individual whose property is damaged. You could argue the court could elect to only pay for one wig or pay for the cheaper one of the wigs, but to say it couldn't be argued that a wig and loss of revenue are valid damages in this situation is debatable at least.

Definitely with the plaintiff. She may have exaggerated a little... but my last hairdresser did literally nothing that I asked and completely ruined my hair, and now I'm stuck living with this haircut for about a year until it grows out. Screwing up somebody's hair isn't something that you can sleep off, and get over tomorrow. It's got long-lasting repercussions.
