Judge Locks Up Ohio Woman Who Stabbed Teen Girl to Death: 'I Will Be Living with This Guilt'

An Ohio judge sentenced 20-year-old Bryanna Barozzini to three years in prison with the possibility of early release in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Halia Culbertson. Family and friends of Culbertson emotionally spoke about the teen during the Thursday sentencing. “I will be living with this guilt the rest of my life,” the convicted woman said before she was sentenced.

On March 26, 2023, Bryanna Barozzini admitted to swinging a knife at Halia Culbertson during an argument outside a smoke shop in Columbus, Ohio. Culbertson was taken to a local hospital but later died. Barozzini pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. She was originally charged with murder.

The videos shows and proves the deceased women started and cornered the other women into a fight where she had no choice or chance other than to fight back. I believe the women who pulled the knife out did it in a panic state of mind and had no pre meditation of any kind about injuring or killing Culbertson. Ms Culbertson through her own anger and physical attack on Ms Barozzini lost her life due to her own violent behavior.

Am I naive, or does everyone in the US carry a knife on them with which to defend themselves?. No knife, no death, but if you carry a knife around with you there is automatically an element of pre-meditation. And it doesn't matter who started the fight, the defendant escalated it by using a lethal weapon.

What I don’t understand is how this is self defense. Yes, halia initially instigates and attacks bryanna. At 1:01:54 halia slaps bryanna, but then while still looking at Bryanna HALIA BEGINS WALKING AWAY. 1:01:55 Bryanna swiftly pulls the knife out and does a stab in the air, simultaneously, halia while is backtracking away at that time. Bryanna literally steps towards halia while brandishing the knife, while halia takes another step back, Bryanna is still coming closer and halia makes the descision to fight not flee, all of this in a split second. Bryanna could have taken the slap and tried to leave, but after being slapped she decided (premeditation) she was going to get revenge. How this girl was allowed to get away with murder and call it self defense is deplorable and the court allowing it like citizens can’t see is insulting. This is murder.

Briana shouldn't have received ANY time. It was clearly self defense! Halia was waiting for her and started the fight, with her brother aggravating and videoing the entire situation! He should get time for his actions, as he could have prevented the entire situation!! Instead, he promoted it!! Briana appeared to be walking to her car with drinks in hand, minding her own business when Halia initiated the fight! Sounds like the girl who was sent to prison was defending herself. Halia is the one in the wrong she waited outside she started it and wanted something to happen, she just picked the wrong person. This poor girl shouldn't of been sent to jail for defending herself its wrong

I would agree if BOTH the teenage victim brought a knife but she was unarmed against the killer who was armed with a knife (cause of death since you failed to hear the facts in the case) who made T. T. - II Degree (Death Threats) on texts so this was intentional murder. I don't see where Bryanna a "victim" as you paint her actually drives away since she was lookin' for her first kill of the day. Next dime Bryanne would use a gun. If it was YOUR family who got stabbed to death then the suspect left the scene I highly doubt you would make that comment.

@@Jonathan-pp3du Not only did judges not get it right all the time, this is a clear cut and dry case of self defense. If anything, I think her lawyer failed her telling her to take the plea deal instead of going to trial and winning one of the easiest cases I've ever seen.

The judge told grandma that he doesn't make the plea agreements, he only imposes them. The Judge is a Coward, he may not mske the plea agreement, but he most definitely has the authority to reject an unjust plea agreement. He even admitted that this should have only been a fist fight, she told everyone she was going to use a knife on the girl, and she did it. This was premeditated, she knew Halia was in that shop and went there to confront her. She thought Halian would be scared and run off but she didn't. Halin's brother failed her though, he should have been there to protect her not encourage her.

Wow….. just watched that video. Looks to me like the victim asked for a fight. Defendant was backing up while victim charged her over and over. Guy taking the video should be getting no sleep and should be ashamed of himself. He should have put the phone down and tried to resolve the conflict.

But it seems clear bryanna was scared to fight Halia and did not want to. Consensual fights happen all the time but one girl forcing another to fight is just assault. The girl tried getting away and moving back even after stabbing her. She thought she could stab her once and stop a fight. That’s what I see. Idk man, I’ve never had someone after me like that but I’m pretty sure I’d be scared a lot of the time if I had a girl like Halia waiting to fight me and not just letting it go with we hate each other now. I know a girl who seems to be very much like Halia, I would carry a weapon if I knew she wanted to fight me. Especially if she’s doing coke and drinking dude. At 17, she was always in fights. She never changed. And I suspect Halia only stopped because she felt so winded and didn’t quite realize why.

The family needs to realize if this would have been taken to jury which I think it should have more than likely been a jury would have found not guilty of any murder or manslaughter just off the video alone halia was not innocent this girl did not just go out and harm an innocent person halia instigated I’m not saying this girl was right but the law doesn’t work based on emotion it’s based on evidence and that text wouldn’t make a big impact after that video is shown. If taken to a jury she would have more than likely gotten charged with probation for tampering with evidence.
