Judgement - Behind The Scenes

Here is a look at a fraction of the work that went into creating Judgement. It was an epic undertaking that took 5 months and roughly 1500 hours split between the three of us.
Since so much work was put into this video we have a ton of footage / screenshots we captured while working on this project. There is plenty more footage but we boiled it down to just some interesting bits.
Please keep in mind that there was a tremendous ammount of work that isn't so easily seen, such as character rigging, environment building scripts and much much more.
Thanks for the overwhelming amount of support(and feedback)!. Now we delve back into the shadows to work on the next project that may come sooner than expected. Stay tuned :)

The amount of talent shared between the 3 of you is amazing. I came over this by accident but holy mother of all this blow all community created WoW content, out of the ballpark and even out of this solar system. What ever you do, don't stop. Keep on trucking. The quality of the animation is on-par with Pixar, Dreamworks and Disney Animation studios.

@@PivotalYT , I agree with Bear - as I'm sure do many others. If this is what you guys do for fun and for the love of it, then any of the giants of animation would be crazy to let your talent go unsupported.

@@CroneLife1 The problem with these giant studios is that you loose a lot of that personal creativity. You're told what to animate and you have little say in the matter. The nice thing about this being a hobby is that all 3 of us are in total control over every decision. Not to say that working in the industry is bad or anything but personal projects have a certain spark to them that I think would be lost if you did this for work.

@@Dedrich agree A lot of people saw that happen with that one single created of that space marine mini episodes that was pretty epic. The studio totally trashed all his hard work in an awful re-uploaded format and he vanished. Hope you guys stay as a team and continue this content.

Blizzard is only interested in hiring people for more micro-transactions. Best we could hope is that Blizzard finally breaks away from Activision. Might have a chance there.

@@DukenukemX I love to trash Blizzard especially for their political pandering while milking their fans. Although, did they turn a corner? The YT channel is being praised now for being loaded with community driven stuff. Hopefully they go back to hiring people like this. I know they hired the guy who makes the arena stuff and those in charge of game engine cinematics came from the community too. Considering this team hasn’t uploaded in a year, I’m willing to bet someone hired them.

Awesome! so the render and vfx was made in houdini and the animation in maya? also how did you upres the models armature, did you remodeled them like in zbrush and after rigged in maya? Awesome work! Did you ever thinked of try render and import vfx from houdini to unreal?

VFX and Rendering are all done in Houdini, Maya is used for rigging and animation. The characters are all quadded and upresed through Maya and waifu2X for the textures. We also paint a bunch of different masks on the textures to separate out materials like metal, leather ect. We've never considered using Unreal because its just too difficult to get the effects from Houdini to Unreal. I'm sure it is possible but as far as I'm aware VDB volumes can't be imported directly into Unreal and it would just be a lot of extra work for not a huge gain. The "real-time" aspect of it would be nice but we already get decently fast previews in Houdini with Redshift.

So cool, the author has such a talent! But I would also like the scenes to have postscripts - in which program this was done. For example, the effects of wings, light, or a wound! P.S.: I'm super interested in how the wound and wings were made! (Especially the wound). P.S.S.: Seriously, please, tell me who knows. How to make a wound like that? 3:02.

All the effects work were done in Houdini. The would was pretty simple to do, I took part of the blade and boolean cut it out of a copy of Donny's side. I did a bit of sculpting on the wound to get it to look a bit better, then I point deformed it to follow the animated Donny mesh. I rendered out the wound as its own render layer so I could composite it on top of Donny's normal side.
