Neil Adams has one of the best Tai Otoshis ever and literally wrote a book about it! Best tai otoshi I have seen on youtube. This is possibly the most mis-understood throw IMO.

Hi Rick! He is an 8th dan in Judo and an inspiration to us all. I think our coaches did a great job in making him come over to small and cozy Tübingen where I study. Cheers.

I remember seeing Neil Adams fighting in the World Championships in Maastricht and in the British Open. Often players of his caliber don't make good teachers. But in this video I can see that he is an excellent teacher.

I really like his friendly way of speaking. Not to mention his excellent details to the technical breakdown of the move :)

Awesome video, thanks for sharing. There is an apparent hole online of quality examples of good tai otoshi technique, and who better to instruct this brilliant throw than the tai-otoshi expert himself!

this helped soooo much. After doing tai otoshi my shoulder always feels like I pulled it. It's because my arm always gets left behind. not anymore though thanks to this video. Thank you so much.

My pleasure! I wouldn't remember my comment from two years ago either :) Besides this : how refreshing to get a youtube reply withing being called names or being insulted. Thanks.

While I was never in Neil's class, I had a good tai-o; and you'll find that once you've too soon turned that right hand so that its palm is facing the same way you are, you're in trouble. Keep the back of your hand looking at you head as long as possible, and do everything else Neil says here, you'll break his balance. Just wanted to help....

A guy from my dojo does this extending the right arm, I feel my wrist it hurts like that so I prefer a loose lapel like in the video---
