I definitely agree with you about how dumb the "putting a name to the waza" rule is. Not to mention the other rules the IJF has been making recently or the lack of consistency in implementing the rules - reverse seoi nage, head diving, leg grabbing, etc. Add to that the incredibly idiotic idea of a paywall to watch Judo, and it seems like the IJF is doing everything it can to make Judo less popular.

@@JudoHighlights2015 it’s on their website but I’ve never received a reply. When I left Japan years ago I had some belongings shipped back to the US and my GI and black belt were in there. Unfortunately, it never made it back. I was so numbed by that. That was a very special belt to me that I earned but also my coach had custom embroidered, etc… I’m still bitter with the postal system…

About the +100's final, on the French TV once the counter attack occured, they imediately point the fact that Tasoev's counter attack wasn't controlled, which might lead to no score at all. They commented this right after Teddy touched the ground. So, I felt like the rule was clear, even if for a second I believed it should have been a score. We can see on the replays that he's kind of diving and both of his legs don't touch the ground. He lost his footing. It happened to Khyar in quarter final against Abuladze. Khyar countered Abuladze, but there was no score. Maybe for the same reason: both feet were off the tatami. Personnaly, when I saw Tasoev's counter, I thought it was a score. I feel like it is ok if the rule says it's not a score as long as it is clear in every referees and judoka's mind. The thing is that when I heard the referees explaining why it didn't count, nothing was crystal clear. They didn't know what to say, they just looked embarrassed. It shouldn't happen in such a tournament.

@@ak-4292 honestly their announcement did nothing but make things even more confusing, it's mix messaging at its best and it doesn't even fall with the explanation the head ref gave on the day of. My interpretation is that it is subjective, and that no one within the IJF could even agree. What i saw though, is that when it happened none of the refs (at table or the one on tatami), neither Riner or the coaches had any doubt, they all acted like it was a no score and didn't even use video, nor any contest was made from the Tasoev camp. The decision must stand as is. I am also thinking that, had Tasoev been dominant in that fight, and not way overdue for his 3rd shido, he may have benefited from the doubt (if there had to be any) and given the score, or at least even gotten a reversal with the announcement. In the end the announcement was just a bunch of nothingburger that does the opposite of what was intended and makes the IJF look bad

You shouldn't call Tasoev the 2023 +100 world champion. Rinner's title wasnt revoked, IJF only said Tasoev's counter COULD have been a score, but it was going to be controversial either way. Tasoev was also way overdue for a third shido and Rinner's subsequent throw was most definitely a clear score. Tasoev didn't win because he didn't make a clear score with a proper judo technique, simple as that. Silver at WC is still a great achievement and nothing to be ashamed of.

The use of the word "could" instead of "should" is another mistake for their books. On the next paragraph they say the following: "Herewith the IJF Refereeing Commission apologises deeply for its decision and informs that this kind of action shall be scored in the future, following the current judo rules." So, they recognise a mistake, apologise for it and at the same time say the decision the referee made was valid. Arghhh...

@@ella2117 Mix messaging? Absolutely. But, still what seems to prevail is what will happen in the future - it will be considered a score. And, when you say sorry, you’re recognizing a mistake. Those 2 aspects weigh more than the fact they used the word “could”. You talk about the reaction of the Riner and refs. Well, we can also talk about the reaction of Tasoev and both commentators (Neil Adams and Sheldon Franco-Rooks) who were incredulous with the decision of the referee. To tell you the truth the fact the refs don’t decide to have a look at the replay confuses me more than if they did. How could they be so sure? Also at the end of the day or next day, there was an interview with an IJF representative that gave a very cringy explanation for not scoring - The tecnique is not on the gokyo, there must be a name for the technique. Eventhough the technique looks very much like a daki-wakare and there inumerous throws that we see in competions that are a mix of techniques difficult to define. Btw, in your opinion, was this a score for you?
