Judy Garland - As Long As He Need Me - The Judy Garland Show - 4K - Colour. Restored from the black and white video from 1964.
I've spent quite some time restoring this video, it's one of my favourites.
It’s restored from a capture of the TV episode in 1963 downloaded from KZfaq so there are limits of what to expect. With the low bit rate the trade off with upscaling was going to be a loss of detail.
The process involved expanding the video into individual frames and resizing the frames to 8k so I have some wiggle room detail wise. I wanted to get every little detail that I could from the low bitrate video.
Then I created PS App Droplet to automatically edit and adjust each frame based on my edits to one frame. Then it automatically output the adjusted frames to my hard drive.
After this I imported the image sequence and recompiled the video using the same technique as animation.
From there I cropped the 8k video to 4k 16:9 which should pinch in the details and make it look a little better at that resolution.
In the end, I hope that I have something that stirs more vivid memories of the great actor and singer, Judy Garland.

Mickey Rooney said so many people pass through the gates of MGM that when a rare talent shows up it's a beacon. Judy became Dorothy became Esther Blodgett (a star is born) became the icon. Barbra and Judy made history before there would have been history because Judy saw the same beacon. She was original. Judey At Carnegie Hall was released in the early 60s and has never been out of print. The first woman to win the grammy for star of the year, first double album to go platinum, the first woman to knock the guys off the boards. She was, is, and will remain the original Judy Garland. Take us over the rainbow again and again and again. 🌈🌈🌈

The great singers just don't sing. They live and act the songs out. A true performance - one can feel and believe every word she is singing!

From one of the books about Judy and her show, they talk about how CBS didn't want her to sing the word "Hell". Never mind that it was being sung with that word every night on Broadway. Judy decided to sing it anyway and if your quick enough you can see her "F Y !" look at the camera around 2:30. That's my gal.

This is so beautiful . I wish to God that would re-release The Judy Garland Show in 4k and in color . I am sure that all of us Judy Garland fans would 'eat em' up . I don't think that would be asking for too much . Judy Garland is so appreciated today as she was 'back-in-the-day'. I know it would sell .

I love the way she stretches the notes out at the end of some of the phrases such as "the Hell I've got.....my........pride...." I think the technical term is singing "rubato". It's so beautiful. And then the great, soaring crescendo just kills you.

Thanks for commenting Bradly. Always loved Judy. She defines 20th century entertainment for me, and given the tragic elements of her life shows the truth in “the show must go on”.

@@FitzgeraldCreative I think the fact that we lost Judy relatively young is the real tragedy. Her life was stressful and often challenging for her, but not dissimilar to many of her Hollywood counterparts. Unfortunately, Judy became the poster girl for tragedy. However, her sheer determination and drive is testament to her strength of character.
@FitzgeraldCreative
@FitzgeraldCreative 2 жыл бұрын
@@elspethcoogan1499 I have the same view. Her strength was phenomenal and given what she was put through then she did relatively well to produce two beautiful daughters, maintain a dry sense of wit, a massive body of great work and resolve in the face of a Mother who used/abused her and a studio that ruined her life from the start. I remember listening to interviews where it was discussed that the studio and her Mother forced her to get an abortion for the sake of her career while she was young. And this derailed her afterward. She didn’t have a choice in the matter. When I see the person who came out on stage time after time even amongst that tragedy then I feel nothing but respect for her. She didn’t have the life she should have had or the Mother she should have had, and sadly her narcotic and alcohol abuse likely became the coping method for it. And even with it, to survive all of that takes strength. She’s a deep loss to the world and I’m really happy to be re-discovering her while doing these little restorations.

@@FitzgeraldCreative "little restorations"? What!? NOT little at all, your restoration is magnificent imo! I'm so grateful you chose to restore this recording, in particular. Of all her performances on TJGS, this one and "Ol Man River" are my 2 favorites! I am so excited to see this in color and you've really improved the experience for me. Thank you! P.S. I just looked up your channel and saw you restored Ol Man River too! All the other greatest (imo) ones too! And I was about to turn off KZfaq and go to sleep. OK, just a few more... 😁🙃😁🙃😁 Judy, Judy, Judy!

Great performance but the song is out of context. It’s a tragic character in Oliver who is in a toxic abusive relationship and yet will do anything for her lover who ultimately murders her. 😢

I think you get the context from the lyrics and her performance, in particular when she sings the line "In spite of what you see..." her expression shows she knows others will have a different view of the relationship than she does.
