The new film "You People," featuring Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy, is the new No. 1 movie on Netflix, and it's sparked a lot of controversy over its portrayal of Jewish people. Allison Josephs, executive director of Jew In the City, a nonprofit that works to dispel stereotypes about religious Jews, believes the move is an example of “erasing Jewish history” and called it problematic. Comedian and writer Judy Gold, who is Jewish, said the film has “lazy” and “simple” jokes, but she doesn’t believe it poses any real threat to Jewish people.

"Nobody is marching in the streets for us." Really, Ms. Josephs? Nobody marches FOR Black people. Black people march for themselves to highlight racial issues, and others join to lend support. If the Jewish community wants to march, then they can set up their own marches, which they have done. By the way, there are Black people who have been part of the Jewish community since Biblical times, but Ms. Josephs won't recognize that. That was very rude.

I am so sad to see Allison Josephs using this slightly ridiculous rehash of 'Guess Who' as a platform to try and raise her brand by claiming antisemitism, when like ALL cringe humour it relies on tropes. She has completely minimised the 'angry black male' stereotype in the film and instead she is upset that the LA Jews in the film are portrayed as.....'white'? I am disappointed in her, but i am also VERY disappointed that JOC have been erased from the conversation and Ms. Josephs has been able to ignore all the voices of jOC who have stated how hurtful it is that she is pitting Jews and blacks against each other.

The thing I found annoying about this movie was that every "joke" had an underlying stereotypical punchline in almost every quote that was said throughout the movie. That's where the basis of the comedy & "jokes" come from. I feel like if you related to either being African-American or Jewish, you might enjoy this movie a bit more and find the jokes funny and less cringey. My 2 other friends and I stopped watching this movie about 2/3 of the way through and switched to Glass Onion.

Everyone loves black culture but Jewish people are demonized? That was your takeaway from this silly film, Allison? As a black woman, I find this commentary is very myopic. A lot of Black people don’t appreciate their depiction (esp black Muslims) in this film either. So making it seem like black folks got “good representation” in this film vs. how Jewish people were represented seems to be a misinterpretation in their analysis of this film.

It is a Rom Com. I agree simple jokes. I laughed something that is hard to do these days. I had great grandparents that fled Lithuania from war. And Ireland forced to help starved people at home. I know they don’t compare to what Blacks and Jewish people went through. All different stories all horrible all uncalled for. While the people who are on the top. Sit in their castle’s and ruin our lives for centuries. If peace real peace doesn’t come soon, it’s over for all of every color race or creed. In my opinion.

This is just a movie! We are not trying to solve for world peace. Can’t we just watch a movie without making it a black or white issue. It is just a comedy. Why do we have to go there. Why do we have to justify a comedy that is subjective. I followed you from CNN and I hope to continue. Thank you for viewing the opinions but it is just a comedy. January 6 did happen, there are still venues that are not open to blacks, and my son still has to worry about being pulled over. This movie is not fostering conflict, it is a reminder that these issues exist. If the movie puffed up blacks and Jews in a positive light, then would we like the movie. This is just a movie and this movie is not promoting evil, just comedy. I think it is unfair to all of us to take this movie out of content. Again, it is just a comedy. Jonah Hill is an actor, a writer, and a Jew. I respect his right to lighten the mood for all us with content that affects not only Jews, but all of us, as this is just a comedy. Thank you for the interview.

If the movie was real life the two of them would never have gotten married. When I heard the part of Jews and the slave trade it was offensive because most Jews who fled to the United States came with zero money and zero connections and if anyone would have been enslaved it would have been them. Jonah Hil's character wasn't that old he would have had a great grandfather or grandfather from the old country and who definitely was not a doctor. I didn't take the movie too seriously but can understand how some were upset. Kudos to Chris Cuomo for hosting this discussion because I think it makes people aware of different perspectives. I don't think that Jonah Hill realized how some of the optics were .

Bullshyte. She is a liar. This is what makes these people look like intelligent fools. Anyone with basic research skills know that yes, most Jews descend from a Whyte collar banking class that was outlawed to Europeans in medieval times by the church. There were Jews in America since it's founding that participated in slavery in America and in the Caribbeans. Not all Jews are rich. And not all Jews worship money as their God. But she is most likely a paid mouth piece for affluent Jewish families looking to hide the blood on their hands!

@@mathmagic9272 who are you to be so biased against Jews? There were Jews in the shave trade…. And black people, too. And there were Jews opposed to slavery, Jews who risked their lives fighting against slavery from the pulpit in Baltimore and on the Underground Railroad and in the synagogues and streets. I do not know the percentages, but I would bet that proportionally more Jews fought slavery and every other form of bigotry and oppression than white people. The head of the inquisition had a mother born Jewish, yet he ordered Jews burned at the stake for honoring their religion. You can be a an antisemite no matter your background. Most Jews in this country are the descendants of poor shtetl Jews who were persecuted and chased by Christians. You do not know your history or your facts. Please check before you repeat popular biases

@@sondratuckfelt8672 Shut your trap! The oldest synagogue in the USA is in south Carolina: the epicenter of slavery and racism. There are numerous Jewish records that show that yes, Jews played an outsized role in black slavery in the Caribbeans and in America. Heck, it was a Rothschild that put together the documents to free the black slaves in the Caribbean after payment with interest was made to the owners! By British taxpayers. That interest was just paid off in total in 2015. Then there are Jews who mostly came before and after ww2 from eastern Europe that didn't really have anything to do with the situation per se. The thing is, jew or no jew, it doesn't matter. Everyone's success in America the same as in the middle east/Asia is poisoned by the blood of innocent Africans. Until that Is resolved, the world will continue to head towards destruction!

Ashkenazi Business oriented Jews have benefited immensely from Whyte supremacy and the stolen wealth of blacks and native Americans. Not only did Business Jews own and control most of the banks and businesses in hiding-pre 1964- but after civil rights, The same business Jewish families have managed to amass an ungodly amount of wealth in America, due to the foolishness of the white Anglo-Saxon population in terms of racial forgiveness with regards to not taxing the rich properly, that, and Jews have an intelligence advantage in numbers compared to every other ethnic group. So these Jews essentially, morphed from owning slaves to making money of Whyte supremacy. Albeit, corporate Whyte supremacy. The type of Whyte supremacy that needs affluent blacks... In entertainment only of course, as well as a limit on their wealth. This is what Farrakhan, Kanye and heck, other Jews like Bobby Fisher have been complaining about. Now the chickens have come home to roost, they have nazified 75 million people while they were "making money" and those people want their blood money and power back by force! Minorities hate them, made even worse by Kanye. They also had a tossle with Byron allen who exposed them via Comcast. Now they are running around looking for allies. Whoever, will help them maintain that corporate Whyte supremacy so that they can continue to drain the masses under the cover of whyteness! These people make up 90%+ of Americas billionaires and millionaires population. All they are doing is abusing and exploiting the Talmudic advantage inherited by blood. They abuse it because they lack a soul/spirituality and are hyper aware and terrified of death! So they mass accumulate at any cost to fill their lives with silver and gold. They fear black intellectualism even more than the Europeans.
