This great performance by Judy Mowatt took place in 1989 at the Diamond Club in Toronto, Canada. The show was produced by my friend, Buzrak Mabrak (RIP), and we encountered many technical challenges that had to be overcome, both sound-wise and power-wise. Because of those glitches, we decided to travel to Montreal later that night to shoot Judy's performance the next day, and I used some of that footage here to supplement this video.
The audio is not quite up to our usual standards because of the problem with the line from the board (apologies) so I had to make do with audio from the different cameras. It does improve vastly however, in time for No Woman, No Cry...a gorgeous rendition by a gorgeous woman. None of the glitches detract at all from Judy's dynamic performance.
The back-up singers are Annicia Banks and Sharon Jackson. The musicians: Danny Miller on bass, Cornell Campbell on drums, Horace James on keyboards, Marlon Graves on guitar--and anyone who can please help me identify the other keyboard player, please do so in the comments!
If you are in a position to make a small donation through the PayPal link, that would also be greatly appreciated. There is a lot more digitizing and editing to do to make the entire Reggae Strong archive available to the public.
In the meantime, please enjoy. Let's treasure Judy while she is still here!
One love,
Diane
