So many of us have this story. No love from both parents even when they were physically present. Now I’m in a time when men and women bicker on here about each other and who isn’t accountable and who this and who that and never looking at the traumas our people have endured and how to this day it is shaping us. We have carried on this from our ancestors generations through generations and now we are teaching each other to blame one over the other, to place one above the other. We need to be talking about counselling and dealing with root causes and how to truly heal and be able to move forward. Making sure the generation of trauma ends with us in this time, now.

Too, true. We should all learn from the, past and be a better person. Though to have, no love for whatever reason is wrong and it sure has an impact, certainly with trust issues etc. It's very sad, especially when there's 2 parents. I pray that we, can all move forward and find our own love and happiness in spite of it. Don't let, hate, neglect and prejudices stop us from being the people God created us to be. Seek out, like minded people and rejoice and sing in their company. I love 😍 you, Judy I think you're amazing an original I three and sister Marcia and mama Rita. Love your, music and message and I always will. 👍🤩😘🙌👏💯❤🎉🎊🥂🎶

@@Naturelife7-w4gThe effects of ganja on teens and young adults' brains also needs to be openly discussed. People predisposed to mental illness should be discouraged from smoking ganja. Jamaica has a high incidence of personality disorder and mental illness. The original intention for promoting the abuse of ganja among slave populations should be a starting point for understanding its negative effects on black males and communities.

I was born in Jamaica in 63, and I cannot remember anyone around me, whether family or neighbor who got love or gave love. Most times when people got close to you, It was to beat the daylight out of you or sexually abuse you. I’m not saying there were no people in Ja receiving or giving love. I’m saying in my sphere of reference, up until the age of 15, when I left Jamaica, I can only remember one teacher as a loving mother to her babies, while being beaten by her husband. She was the closest thing to loving and showing love, but her being constantly beaten, overshadow all of that. I’m almost 61 and I’ve heard that there are some changes in Jamaica with regards to this, and I hope it is true. Other adults like me are constantly working through things from our past THROUGH GODS GRACE AND LOVE I love my beautiful country, but I have no problem admitting the demons of incest, abuse and horrific violence that run that beautiful paradise.

Her words are reminiscent of my own experience with my mum and yes I too have reached a place were I AM safe - I love that woman but it was never reciprocated but I now know that wasn't from her, it was inherited but today I break the generational curse, yes there is a void but when you know better you must do better - we now know that love is not the European concept that we have out here EMbody [EMbrace] EMpath [EMpress] [EMpowerment] EMotions - Electro Magnetic - we are sum deep complex people and within that is our love, we will come good, we have to because the planet will die without us, she will die without our love [EM] experiences teach us and we must EMbrace - we have evolved because we now speak about our feelings

It still does, the legacy continues. The divide and conquer was definitely forced on our people’s. Colorism, not loving our own kind, particularly black men. Not loving our hair, particularly women.the list goes on, and on, to what is socially acceptable and what isn’t. After all it was Bob who was chosen to front The Wailers when he was not the main singer. History repeats itself daily in the news, media, so on and so on. It starts with us, for those who are aware, to find, safe spaces to discuss and address. This is a massive subject this needs time to address….

I can relate to Ms Mowatt. I was also raised without any form of love & affection. Poor, a little food, a few pieces of clothes, few or no hygiene products. Much cursing and beatings. It was rough and l still have that void, suffering from depression. Christ never miraculously filled that void for me so l guess it works only for some.
@milli6415
@milli6415 3 ай бұрын
It works for all of us...once you accept Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior...the void should be filled, and true love should be in your heart. What is it that you are struggling with? Who do you still hate? Or blame...once you ask God to remove it from your heart and replace it with love, you should be good!! God bless and keep you!! Am talking from experience!!
@adjuafrican2664
@adjuafrican2664 3 ай бұрын
@@milli6415 l'd been doing that for so long until l finally realized that it doesn't work. I was basically just following what the pastor said, repeating words and going through the motions. I wished l was never born and no one could fix that. Your Jesus couldn't fix the pain l was and is still feeling inside even though l followed every instruction, acceptance of Christ, baptism, church attendance, fasting and praying. I did everything l was supposed to. You all need to stop lying to ppl because there will be no miraculous fix to our problems. Until we look within and find ourselves to find truth and learn to love ourselves. No invisible man can fix us. Life is bitter and cruel and it just has us in 3 categories: lucky, unlucky, in-between. Stop pulling wool over ppl's eyes.

Beautiful speach, we didn't get love because some of our parent had to be grinding so hard to put food on the table, but in reality, i i believe that a roof over your head, & food on the table is more important, than the emotional aspect of it, cause without food you can't survive, & without a roof over your head, the sun will burn you, & rain will wet you, so we have to weight the pros & cons, yes we need a balance of spiritual, physical, & emotional attention/interaction, but in our case we have to choose the most important one to attend to, but children won't understand why they not getting all the attention, until the y, fall in simular situation, which them craving for the things above is a natural process, & if those needs are not met, the system goes into a depressive state, & lots of us are single mothers, I'm a single mother of 5, & my children are hurting, because all their needs had not be met by me, but it's me a alone with 5, so some things got a little neglected, but they are still not satisfied with what i could do, which is a natural reaction, it's just life, that's why in the bible it states, don't put your heart on nothing on this earth, cause it might fail you, mostly live in the spiritual realm, & you should be able to weather, lots of storms that will come your way, such is life, just live & praise GOD, ya man.

Hi if we all healed before having children, then that would be a long time to wait. Ideally that would be in a perfect world. I realise that because of slavery and other injustices handed down through the generations, a lot of us growing up had similar experiences. Hopefully as we as melanated people learn to share and open up more we can find healing.

Back in the day when I was growing up in Jamaica, mothers made sure you had food to eat and taught you manners and respect for elders. But they were busy taking care and providing because the fathers whether absent or living at home hardly helped in raising the children. They really didn’t know how to be good fathers. We the children just had to survive the best way we could until we became adults and moved out to try and live our lives the best we could and not repeat how we were treated. Took us a while but we lost earned to show love and caring to our children.

Jamaicans show love differently. Parents & families didn’t hug, kiss or say, “I love you” but they would give their lives for their children. That is LOVE expressed in its own way. Parents going without so their kids can have what they need, is LOVE. I never got hugs & kisses but I felt LOVED by my family & my community. Knowledge has increased so actions are changing. SURVIVAL was key. I could list numerous ways I experienced love from family & community which didn’t include a single hug or kiss. I reminisce all the time.

Thank you Mama Judy Mowatt. I respect her as much as Mama Rita Marley. This is the first time I have ever seen an interview with Judy. She has such a soothing voice. Grace and elegance. It’s such a travesty that to this day most Christian churches disfellowship or kick out women who have had children before marriage. Leading to more trauma, shame and isolation. Didn’t Jesus himself say woman where are your accusers?…Go and sin no more? He stood up for people who were ostracised by society. Anyway as far as I’m concerned God is Love. I’m not in any denomination anymore,I believe in love and that’s what counts. Not how many times you go inside a church. Blessings to us all. As we navigate this life, with courage, and empathy. We need more people to use their voices for change in our communities. In any way I believe healing is possible. I don’t believe In generational curses. But generational trauma. 🙏🏾 One ❤️

Can someone speak on the connection between Jamaica and Cuba when it comes to all these families? Alfarita Anderson's (Rita Marley) family came from Cuba, Judy Mowatt's family from Cuba, Alvin 'Seeco' Patterson's family from Cuba too. Was this a case of Cubans coming to settle in Jamaica or was it simply Jamaicans who had migrated to Cuba coming back after some years?
