NOTE: The price mentioned in the video is $2,899. This was the pre-order price, as of August 1st the price has gone up to $3,199. UPDATE: In the video, I recommended registering this as a Low Power Scooter to make sure that you ride legally. After some back-and-forth with the DMV in Colorado I have determined that this is not actually possible since Juiced Bikes does not provide a VIN or MSO. See the full written review (link in description) for more details on this. Control systems overview at 11:58, battery removal at 24:28 Ride test begins at 34:00, torque/cadence sensor demo at 35:45 Traffic ride at 41:00, chest mount + speed test at 46:02 Lights test at 50:55, suspension test at 52:35

@@tomatojuice12 For the brakes, the likely cause of squeaking is dirty rotors/pads. I've cleaned my rotors with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol and that usually takes care of it!

ElectricBikeReview said, "in Colorado I have determined that this is not actually possible since Juiced Bikes does not provide a VIN or MSO. See the full written review (link in description) for more details on this. " I didn't see any more details in the link you provided...but most states have (or they used to have) a way to CREATE a registration for home-made vehicles which I would think would work for this scenario. It's a special class of vehicle. I registered a home-made trailer just a few years ago.

Great, in depth review EBR. Thanks for taking the time to go over each detail of the Hyperscorpion. I just got my Hyperscorpion this week and I love it. I live at the top of a mountain and the true test for this bike was going up a street so steep that cars won’t drive up it when it snows heavily. The Hyperscorpion went up the incline at 27 mph (peddling) which to me, is great. Because of my mountainous, remote location I’m looking to get a second onboard battery to help me out when no one is around and cell phone coverage fails. Still learning about how to do this. A Big Thanks Tora!

I've been building performance ebikes for a decade+ and am so impressed with this build @ just $3200 - very well done. My adjustments would include implementing a 52v-Mid-Drive of 1500watts+ with a 52t covered chainring & a Shimano 3sp IGH w/tensioner driving a 14-22t rear wheel cog. All of this has proven serious reliability - instead of all those high maintenance 'fragile' moving parts and indirect chain-lines of using any kind of derailleur... Besides, no well-powered ebike needs more than 3 gears anyway. 1-Low for hills, 2-regular dogged direct drive and then 3-high for road cruising at 35mph traffic speed .

Great review! There’s no such thing as too much information! I lusted after this bike when I first heard about it, but after your thorough detailed review, I feel it’s not practical for my needs considering the price, weight, and the fact that it seems to be 70% scooter 30% bicycle. I would be too tempted to 86 the drive train and install foot pegs. That would defeat the purpose of having a bike for some exercise with a little help with hills and head winds.

In Ca this is going to be considered a vehicle and will need registration which will render it useless on park bike trails IMO. At 15-1/2 I was able to get a permit to ride a 125 CC motorcycle and ride on the street in early 1970’s none of that is possible these days. Sadly. If you buy one get a good life insurance policy your speed will be underestimated by the car driver.

Some corrections. Tail light cannot be shut off. Motor peaks at 1700 watts. And if you really need 70 miles of range you better be in eco mode only (11-12mph) and pedaling all the time. Real life range is probably 20 - 35 miles, your not going to want to go slow on this hot rod! The bike is awsume though, I'm very happy I bought it.
@Maber01
@Maber01 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with your 20-35 mile battery range. In "S" mode I get about 20+ miles. In "Race" mode I did 15 miles and only had 2 bars left. The bike is well built and fun as hell, but I was hoping for more range from this battery. Perhaps I am asking too much because I am 6'2" and 250 Lbs. For $3200 I could have gotten a 150cc scooter :(

I rode mine hard for 25 miles in race mode on steep hills and as fast as I could and it only used 1/2 the battery. I would say that It should give you at least 40 miles of reasonable service on a charge.

@@larrybasinski8596 I am not certain how to include a picture here but my screen says 32.9 Wh/Mi. I think that works out to 30 miles per kilowatt charge. I live on the top of a long steep hill. I am usually riding in race mode but maybe not always very hard. I can easily see how I could stretch the charge to 40 miles. I think that would be a normal range to expect for a more reasonable riding pace. I always race up the hill! I regularly catch cars on city streets. I still have very few miles on the bike so I don't really know what to expect.

Thanks for this realistic review, especially the part about this bike not really being geared (some pun intended) towards big rear cog/lowest gear riding. It's set up cafe racer style without any way to adjust the seat (other than with the optional riser) that's much more like a scooter or moped than a regular gear shifting power assisted bicycle. (That part is obvious just from looking at it but I never would have known that the bigger rear cogs weren't usable. That seems kind of like a shame because the ability to use the lowest gears could help with climbing and ease up the strain on the motor.)

But suffice it to say I got it done. But after getting everything back on it still seems razor thin to the tire. But from the main sprocket it just the way it’s designed. I bought my bike from the Indegogo campaign. I put 20 miles on it and sold it. One of the reasons I didn't like it was the weight. 100 lbs plus I felt was motorcycle weight. If they would have gone with spokes and lightened the frame would have been nice. I felt it was over engineered with the frame. Just to bulky. It would have been nice if this would have been 60 lbs. Another reason is the geometry of the frame. I wish it would have been the Camp Scrambler seat and configuration. Yes, it has a lot of power and cool things, but how am I going to get this on my bike rack? I thought the seat was not good. Just a few thoughts.

It is why use regular Bike Frames from being spotted as a Scooter Rider from Cops. Using bike frames always gives first impression of a rider on Bike pedals. Just other day, I spotted a cop and I started to do the Bike rider behaviors of riding on sidewalk crossing section. The only time when people notice something different of their heads doing double take is when im riding next to their cars on 35 to 40 mph streets. I stay off Blvds DUE TO NOT TRUSTING ANY DRIVER AT ALL of their habits of driving blind towards riders, especially RIGHT CORNER TURNS.

Ride 1 Up Revv 1...... $2399 for 750W 52V 20AH, full suspension, mags, fenders; ArielRider X-Class.... $2399 - 1000W 52V 20AH, full suspension, fenders, rear rack; Juiced HyperScrambler $2499-1000W 52V 38.4AH, full suspension, mags, Passenger seat, USB, 100mi+ range; Juiced HyperScorpion $1899 for 1000W 52V 19.2AH full suspension, mags fenders, rear rack, USB, alarm. No doubt there are other bargains out there. This is 3/26/2023

Nice electric moped! As you suggest, this is not really a bike, but it looks extremely plush, well-eqipped, and useful. I seriously considered purchasing one of these, but it was just too big and heavy... also, I didn't feel like I would feel comfortable or welcome on bikepaths and sidewalks, so I chose the much lighter, and more bicycle-like Zooz instead. FYI, the Zooz has been a true joy to ride! It is a very new and unique bike that EBR should review asap! I bought one of the first 100 made, but more will be offered soon. Having lost a couple of my favorite bikes to theft, I would never leave it unlocked if it was out of my sight, but maybe moped theft is not as common as bike thefts. Great review and keep them coming! EBR is such an important player in the electric bike revolution... Now we need to push for more bike infrastructure, especially in suburbs.

Wes Flack I have this bike and it’s true that it isn’t really something you can feel welcome riding on a bike path. It’s much more a moped in looks but can be a very mild bike in Eco or Sport mode but it still has that moped or motorcycle look. I’m looking at the new Rize Liberty which looks a lot like the Scorpion but has enough of a bicycle look to be welcome on a bike path...I hope. It’s also 25-ish pounds lighter than the HyperScorpion. Still love the Hyper but it’s limited in where you can ride it.

I keep asking Tora and Juiced if they will be addressing the latency issue with the torque sensor kicking on and off and a few other firmware updates they really need to do on the RCS. I'd love it if they'd put the trip meter on the main screen instead of the odometer. Makes sense to put the trip meter on the main screen instead of burried on the stats screen.

I know I should check out the reviews before buying, not after, but I think it is going to work out OK this time. Question, what was that campus where you did the first half of the review? It reminds me a lot of the Presidio in san Francisco. Was this too a former army base?

I want to be a fan -- and the HyperScorpion makes everyone a fan, believe me! It's just ... a LiIon battery bank, composed of probably a few dozen 18650 batteries, are VERY temperature sensitive. A LiIon battery bank is also severely strained when any TORQUE is required. Torque loads just suck up battery life. What's all that mean? An ebike battery loses MASS energy and capacity under torque strain, or in the cold. Do any of these designers ever think about these things?

In Oregon scooter law, you must register, license, insure 50hp gas engine or higher on a scooter. (no peddles) assume the electrical motor has an efficiency of 92% ( or 0.92). So divide the output (50 HP) by the efficiency (0.92), to get the energy required to be input into the motor, to get 50 HP. So --- 37,300 Watts / 0.92 = ~ 40,500 Watts is required to be input to the motor to get the 50 HP output. but with an ebike in Oregon, if it is over a horse power, you have to license it as a scooter. 1hp is equal to 745w or (750w motor)... and there is a limit of 20mph for the motors acceleration. and the motor must turn off at 20mph. (that can be tweaked but not legally..).. There is no speed limit on off-road use of ebikes. Hi Tyson. Hope all is well in Colorado.

Thanks Rob! I've been researching more about this topic as the Colorado DMV told me "we do not register electric bikes" when they rejected my Low Power Scooter registration. After more digging it looks like it will be impossible to register or insure in most states since Juiced Bikes doesn't provide a VIN or MSO for it. This leaves it in a grey area... too fast for a Class 3 Ebike, but impossible to register as a scooter/moped. Ebike-related regulation is really behind the times compared to the technology and products available!

@@TysonRoehrkasse Tyson, Drivers Licensing and Automobile licensing only refers to people who use public roads to conduct business: (cab driver, delivery driver, truck driver. etc..) legally, it isn't required for people going to the grocery store. Licensing is for those who use public roads for commerce. But we have allowed the authorities to push a false agenda to extract fees/taxes out of "travelers"... Those fees only really apply to "drivers".. :) And one person going up against the establishment won't work.. it would have to be all "travelers" refusing to have an effect. Intimidation of one person/cyclist/traveler can be a powerful persuader... As cyclist, we are considered travelers. Unless we use the public roads to make deliveries (Currier, food delivery etc) These are points we ebikers/cyclist will have to make in a court of law to fight this illegal taxation. Personally i have my ebike and etrike insured for theft, or if i hit a pedestrian and send them to the ER. I have insurance for hit and run, or if i collide with a new mercedes and put a big dent in the door. (that is expensive..LOL) Oregon and Colorado (most states) don't require it yet... Washington is considering reinstating the bicycle licensing requirement. They had it 50 years ago, and are thinking about bringing it back.. I think, if they are going to require licensing of bicycles, the DOT must be required to put in bicycle lanes on every road (or have separate bicycle routes) to justify the fee.

the average car headlight emits between 2,000 to 4,000 lumens. However, this number will depend on a few different factors. The brightness will depend on the number of LEDs in the light itself. Some bulbs will be rated incredibly high at 10,000 or more, but you should take this claim with a grain of salt

Hey man, great review! I have a question- I’m 6’3” like you and was really considering this bike. Do you feel cramped at all on the Hyperscorpion, or is it genuinely a comfortable ride? I’m assuming it’s wheelbase is tighter than say a Ripcurrent, which is another one that I’m interested, but the ability to go full throttle in race mode has me hooked on this one
@Maber01

I am 6'2" with a 32-inch inseam, and the seat extender is a must. That said, the bike is comfortable, and I pedal all the time. I don't have a full leg extension, but with the motor helping, you really don't have to push too hard or stress your knees. The range on race mode and pedaling is about 30 miles. So, I added a second battery, 20ah plus the original 19 = 39 ah. Now I go 30 miles with 4 bars left. The bike is heavy. You don't feel it so much when riding but getting it into my truck bed is tough without help. All that being said, if I were to do it all over again, I would get the CrossCurrent S2 at $1499. Lighter weight, slimmer tires, means going fast and, farther with less battery.

Excellent review. Very well done. The one thing I learned from this is that even at $3,000 bikes can have issues. I live in the country. I would kill to own one however I know the first time something internal breaks or needs repair the shops won’t touch it. If juiced had a store or repair facility fine but I have to pass on buying it. I only wish that a bike built that well would go to at least 40mph. What good is a well built machine that weighs 100 pounds that can’t go over 40+ full throttle like the onyx or the Monday bike. Too heavy to be peddled up hill. And with those cast iron wheels try peddling if the battery gives out up hill also. Good luck.👍

Only other EBike people would comment on its specs being above norms. You can put a granny on that bike and nobody would ever question it's speed or power .. Police would never give it a second glance . Now I see why you guys don't review a Kepler .. Looks like the controller is mounted in the frame .. You didn't mention it or what amp controller is on that .. Nice review.. Very thorough run through.. Good job! Could change the rear cassette to a narrower width set yes. 👍
