When is this maintenance required?

Juiced Bikes email support suggested hub maintenance every 700 - 1000 miles. I picked 1000 miles. From factory, there is a minimal quantity of grease within the hub. At these maintenance intervals, I added a little more. Too much and it just splatters around the gear teeth.

Probably the best and most informative video I have watched on youtube. I'm doing this exact job except I had to pull and change out my whole planetary.

Thanks. At the time of the video, I didn't have a gear puller for the planetary gears.

Thank you! It looks like you knew exactly what you were doing, with the proper tools. I was curious if there is sealing, or if there is an o-ring in the housing? Oddly, looking at it, it could probably be converted for an oil-bath, as long as there isn't too much oil. Most oils are diaelectric, perhaps a nice synthetic gear oil. I don't know how it would play with the nylon gears. BTW, there are brass gears on ebay, which I think would fit, though there is some benefit in using consumable planet gears, to save the sun motor and the ring gear. Though again, bronze/brass might not be hard enough to wear the other metal gears.

There are no seals/o-rings on the housing of the motor. Some people have noted to add a bead of silicone to help with water intrusion. Yes, I think the brass gears would cause damage to the hub housing however I'm uncertain. The plastic planetary gears last quite a while anyways. Cheers.

Good video, thanks. I used SuperLube synthetic grease on my gear set. Available everywhere. Spray-on brake cleaner works good on the sprocket set.

A shop told me, just replace the hub because the maintenance and repairs would cost more. My motor just stopped working. I reached out to Juice because I'm in the warranty period. Seems like they are standing by it. But If I have to, I will buy the tools and gears after watching the video I think I could do it. However you KZfaq guys always make stuff look easy.

Well, this video is of the routine maintenance I've completed about every 1000 miles. As far as tools, the chain whip and freewheel remover are probably the most unique, otherwise it's just basic stuff. The first time you try, just go slow and remember the steps to reassemble. I usually use different cups to hold specific screws/etc to keep things organized.

First I have to say what a treat it is watching this video. Been looking for something like this and it came in clutch while trying to figure out how to take apart my rear wheel. 😊 If you needed to replace the whole motor, where would I go about looking for a new one?

@@justanotherproject2day i really beg if you can find metal gears the plastic ones shred off for me, I look at gears for it, and I'm straight up lost, and it really seems you know how to fix stuff... i don't want mix matched parts... i know it sounds like I'm asking something for no reason, but I'm still fairly new bikes, and I look at it, and they ALL look the same...
@justanotherproject2day
@justanotherproject2day 2 жыл бұрын
@@howcanthinkman8519 First, I suggest investigating WHY the plastic gears are shredding. Have you made any modifications to the bike? Does it make strange sounds when riding? Are you constantly going over its top speed of 30mph? etc. It seems uncommon for these gears to "shred off". Just my opinion, but it appears the hub is NOT designed for metal gears, i.e. its too soft of a metal. Replace with OEM-style plastic and begin a maintenance plan!

What tool do you use at 2:23?
@justanotherproject2day
@justanotherproject2day Жыл бұрын
It is a 17 mm spanner wrench from a bicycle tool kit. It is thinner than "regular" wenches. Whatever fits into the small space works whereas the odd shaped washer is a little countersunk because of the cassette.

How u remove and change the gears when they stripped
@justanotherproject2day

Using a 4" gear puller will remove the planetary gear assembly. To remove each individual gear, you will need snap ring pliers or a small screwdriver.
