I'm really seeing that you have only heard a lot of his recent songs, which is understandable, but a lot of your criticism makes no sense. Carbon copy of Chris Brown? How exactly are they anything alike? Compare a song like "Wicked Games" to something like "Wall to Wall". There is no similarity. Yes the Weeknd has been in songs recently that are about mostly just partying songs, but before he was as famous as he was, he had very dark and chilling lyrics. Songs that actually had stories behind them. A song like 'Wicked Games' where he speaks of leaving his girlfriend in pursuit of drugs and women that he desperately wishes to quit (In the song there are lyrics that go, "Listen ma, I'll give you all I got, get me off of this, I need confidence in myself" which is a reference to the boost confidence that drugs can give the user, he wants his own confidence), but can not do so. In a song like 'Pretty' it is telling that he is in a long distance relationship, but as most of those goes, he finds out that the woman he was with was cheating on him, and he knows it's because he couldn't give her the touch that she needed that the other man could. I really suggest you to go listen to some of his older work as they are honestly his best work, and in my opinion, can be on par with a lot of MJ's work because of how much emotion was put into the songs. I can understand that by listening to songs like this or "The Hills" or other more mainstream songs of his can deter someone who likes more songs with actual meaning or stories within it, but that is not all he has done. He has been around for years (I am a new fan of his, but I believe he's been around since around 2009 or 2010?), so don't just not give him a chance because of newer songs.
