I recently purchased some Juki DX5 sewing machines for my brick & mortar sewing studio in Gainesville, FL (thesewingcoop.com) because I love the DX series of Juki sewing machines. I use one in my home studio and they are fool proof workhorses that offer a great value for the price.
In this video I cover some of the basics on this machine, as well as my favorite features, customizable settings and some of it's capabilities.
I also show you how to wind a bobbin and thread the machine.
If you know of a different machine brand/model that is comparable to this one for $1,200 or less please let me know in the comments as I would love to do some research and check it out!
Disclaimer: I do not work for JUKI. They do not pay me for any marketing. They don't send me free sewing machines. I purchased these machine with my money from Sew-Mini Things (bit.ly/2Dj98Yq) in Mt. Dora, FL.
For a full page comparison of the DX5 and the DX7 models visit this page: bit.ly/2oBUVk2
If you would like to purchase this machine we would appreciate it if you used this affiliate link: bit.ly/2Dj98Yq
To get to the JUKI Dx5 page just click on "Sewing Machines" in the shop menu and scroll down to the DX5 machine model.
Leave me a comment and let me know what is your favorite feature on this machine!

After two years of research, and because of this review I purchased the juki dx7. I am mighty new to machine sewing. I first purchased a little kids sewing machine and practiced, and to also to see if I would want to take up sewing, without wasting money if I decided not to. I am a very avid crocheter, and thought that learning to use a sewing machine would be a great enhancement with my crochet skills. Also, I've always wanted to be able to make my own outfits and quilts . I am by no means rich and it took me about 3 months to save up for the purchase of this machine. One of the reasons why I purchased this machine because I know that I cannot afford to purchase multiple machines, as my needs may grow, so I needed a really good quality machine that is going to last for quite some time. I look forward to growing and increasing my skills on this machine. My only concern is that if I ever do need maintenance, there aren't any places near me to obtain service. But I wanted to THANK YOU for a great review and helping me to make what I think was a good choice.

That Juki sewing machine looks great and you must love it so much and what it can do. I became familiar with the Juki brand while working for the prison system here in Arkansas and the inmates who used it and the Singer machine loved it. The machine they had was the industrial model and they was only interested in sewing one type of stitch to take care of the clothing used by inmates. The Singer was an older model and did one thing also and I tried them both and got interested in sewing while working there. I thank you for sharing your experience on this Juki and wish you many years of great service with the ones you have.

this was perfect - the best review I have ever seen of a machine - showing the details of the various common settings was really helpful - other reviews really skim over this - I am in the market right now and have been looking at a few makes - I wasn't sure about Juki but you really have covered so many of the questions and it looks like it is so flexible to set up for your own needs - thanks again for taking the time to do this!!

I have a Juki HZL-F600 and it's the best purchase I've made in a very long time! When I purchased it I was new to quilting and had not sewn anything in years, but wanted something good with lots of great features, even if I didn't know how to use them initially. It took me no time at all to learn to use those great features! Very easy and a dream! I use it almost every day. It's truly an amazing sewing machine!

Vanessa I’m thrilled with my new Juki DX7 and this video has helped me customize my machine to make it my perfect sewing machine. You went into the presser foot height setting in tools and I thank you for that! As a matter of fact, I set up my knee lever to lift the presser foot to its highest height of 6.0 and I’m in sewing heaven. I was working with the walking foot and sewing through several layers of thick stretchy polyester, the regular automatic presser foot button (set on auto on my foot pedal) did not lift the presser foot high enough (only goes to 2.0) but then I pressed my knee lever and Walla! presser foot high enough (6.0) for ease of removing project! You are the best teacher! Thanks a million

So nice to hear you say you get no compensation from Juki. Some times reviewers say they are not affiliated with the company but the item being reviewed was sent to them for free. If they want more free things from them or other companies that is a factor in the review (even if they think/try not). I don’t know if I would turn away free products, but I do wish people were more aware of the hidden influence that can have. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I have 2 Juki sewing machines and a Juki Air threading serger so as you can tell I am already smitten! Thank you for a great review of this machine it looks great particularly with the addition of the presser foot up or down button I think. I have that feature on my brother embroidery machine and love it. I however have trouble with both of my Juki machines in that they auto cut the thread without me touching the button or hitting the heel of the pedal. I even have the manual lock on the pedal but it still suddenly cuts the thread which is getting annoying. Has this ever happened to you?
