Critics say a billion-pound reparations push by the Church of England to atone for its historic links to slavery is 'anti-Christian'.
The church will ask super-wealthy families and investors to help it build a fund to address 'enduring harms from enslavement'.
The C of E announced last year that it was setting up a £100million fund for reparations to recognise that it once profited from the slave trade.
However a report yesterday said this was 'insufficient' to 'fully redress' the centuries-long impact of the 'great evil' of slavery - and called for a much bigger target of £1billion.
TalkTV's Julia Hartley-Brewer furiously clashes with anti-racism activist Imarn Ayton over the payment of reparations.
Imarn: "You're saying it to me because I'm black!"

In 1102, the ecclesiastical Council of London banned the slave trade within England, decreeing “Let no one dare hereafter to engage in the infamous business … of selling men like animals.”" While 1807 wasn't the end. On 28 August 1833, the Slavery Abolition Act was given Royal Assent and came into force on the following 1 August 1834. Its full bill title was ‘An Act for the Abolition of Slavery throughout the British Colonies; for promoting the Industry of the manumitted Slaves; and for compensating the Persons hitherto entitled to the Services of such Slaves’.

Not only did we end slavery,which still goes on in Africa to this day, but we paid to buy the freedom of slaves which was a huge cost to this country. A cost that we only finished paying for in 2015, so anyone who has paid tax before that date has paid for the freedom of those slaves. Why does no one ever mention to the reparation whingers that Africans were capturing and selling their own people to Muslim Arabs centuries before the British or Americans ever bought any. We ended slavery and paid for it with a fortune in money and the lives of our sailors. Surely it is the UK that is deserving of reparations from Africans for our sacrifice.

What an utterly horrid person, and I’m not in the least concerned about the colour of their skin. A conversation is two-way, however as we see in almost every single one of these topics of interaction these people demand attention, over talk, and then themselves interrupt the interviewer whilst demanding not to be interrupted. They aren’t winning any support with their obnoxious arrogant and downright ignorant way of communicating. As for the topic of discussion, it’s utterly preposterous to expect MONETARY compensation for events of centuries ago. Any educated individual will be aware of horrors and injustices perpetrated on every country and every civilisation in every period of history. The fact is, this is simply an attitude of free reign to claim anything and everything at the cost of others. That has been-and always will be their culture.

The issue I have is where is the CofE going to get this money from? They are closing parishes, which is taking away a community resource and a place for support, and a financial source as all parishes have to pay a quota to support the diocese and ultimately support the CofE and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

HISTORY OUGHT TO BE FACTUAL, and narrated fairly----yes! as a person of African heritage I can accept a discourse on Africans selling other Africans into slavery, that is common knowledge given that African societies did not have concept of mass incarcerations or prison colonies and gulags; so the idea of RETRIBUTIVE servitude was already there, but a cruel idea like CHATTEL slavery, NO! .... But then I DO NOT understand why we cannot have a similar discourse on the German Nuremberg Laws of 1935; and how Germany imposed those laws across defeated and surrendered Europe. And how the Nuremberg Laws distorted who was and wasn't a Jew by blood. Meaning that some served in one form or another for the state....
