An uncensored, all-in conversation with Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the comedy of politics and the politics of comedy. The star of HBO’s Veep (with cameos from co-stars Matt Walsh and Sam Richardson) dishes on her “sponge-worthy” Seinfeld days to Veep’s searing parody of the Obama-era Beltway. This conversation is moderated by Anne Fulenwider, Editor-in-Chief of the U.S. edition of Marie Claire.

About SXSW:
Started in 1987, South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place early each year in mid-March in Austin, Texas. SXSW’s original goal was to create an event that would act as a tool for creative people and the companies they work with to develop their careers, to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas. That continues to be the goal today whether it is music, film or interactive technologies.

The interviewer makes it very difficult to watch this. She also has a bad problem of interrupting. Really. Bad. Problem.

was looking forward to this. Interviewer liked to talk about herself. I wish these Q&As would go directly to the fans. Every host has to Chris Hardwick the hell out of it.

I can see the personality the interviewer is trying to be but she fails miserably at it because she just comes off as rude. If it had been someone else who could play that part it wouldn't have been so bad

really tried to watch this but stopped at 15:00 in because I couldn't handle the interviewer anymore. She reminded us she was an editor every time she spoke and I feel like I learned more about her life prior to a question than anything JLD answered.

jbgreeng I don't know why comedy writers and performers keep letting the fashion world anywhere near them. They have a startling lack of humour or self-deprecation. Everything they touch turns to _not funny_. Christ, Anna Wintour has an entire career built on that.

I think the guy at 34:14 has a pretty good question and the actors probably knew the right answers but they don't to make it more darker and depressing than it already was. LOL

moderator was ok, worst part was the lady asking the audience question and being upset that a TV show was at a festival that only said film, music and interactive as it subheader.

Everyone is complaining about the interviewer, but I have to say that it's the audience that's most irritating for me. The way that some Americans seem to just cheer at every preposition within a sentence is just so annoying. "So! I heard that you have a garden in..." "WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!" "... your lovely house"

+Sam Walters I thought she was quite funny, actually. i bet she and JLD worked out a lot of that schtick beforehand. everyone thinks julia louis-dreyfus is just going to get an interviewer sprung on her? wtf

For the first three seasons, I was Team Gary Walsh because he was the heart and humanity of the show. However, they made him more exaggerated ever since Selina became president and he was no longer the subtle moral compass of the show but rather the character who blindly idolizes her. I now like Walsh's Mike McClintock not only because I can (sadly) relate myself to him but he's now what Gary used to be in the first three seasons.

I think all the characters kinda got cranked up to 10 in Season 4. Not a bad thing though. It all makes sense in context. Selina has let power get to her head since she became President. Gary vies for Selina's attention more as he becomes less and less important to her. Amy and Dan have moved on from Selina after taking years of her abuse. It's really good character development.

Wow, okay. That interviewer really is terrible. Sugar-coating shallow 3rd-grade questions doesn't make them any more 3rd-grady. At least Julia and the rest are great.

Patton Scr she is horrible!! I've seen her interview JLD @ another years south by southwest and she's totally unprepared (i.e. This time didn't know Armando Ianucci' is creator and showrunner. Something you should know when Veep is the focal point of your interview). I'm glad I'm not the only one who found her so grating. She has no business interviewing someone at JLD level. And yes, Julia et al were great, esp when she asked JLD how she became funny because she "didn't have a tortured childhood" (because family has $). How presumptuous. I'm even more irritated than I thought lol

Maybe they mean grating. But sycophantic is a synonym of ingratiating and that could almost apply.

I clicked on this link to see The Veep in all her glory (so to speak), but this interviewer does not seems to have a clue on how to let the star shine on her own. Interrupting Julia's answers and babbling for too long before asking the question.... she should have prepared herself to be a little more professional about her task. Unbearable to watch, what a waste of time, I went away after 7.5 minutes.

I know I'm late but this woman is horrible!! (The interviewer, not JLD!). The worst moment was when she said that after observing them backstage they are all "just like their characters" You could tell JLD was not happy with that, since Selina is a horrible person. Plus the interviewer is always unprepared (seen her before), having to check her stupid notecards for very basic facts. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who finds her beyond annoying.
