I believe the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's last talks with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken a couple of weeks ago, where he openly stated problems with human rights in the United States and demanded the release of all illegally detained, as well as interview with the BBC significantly influenced the resolution to free Julian Assange. In this dialogue, he forthrightly addressed the political underpinnings of Assange's detention and vehemently lambasted the double standards and hypocrisy of so-called Western democracies. He denounced their ostensible advocacy for freedom and human rights abroad while perpetrating acts of terror upon their citizens through police violence, unlawful detentions, coerced alterations in sexual orientation among youths, and burdening their populace with lifelong debt.

Assange seems like a Hero from what I know of him and He probably should stay in Australia. That seems safer then ever coming to the USA.
@Ahjile
@Ahjile 2 күн бұрын
Assange started out seemingly okay. Heroic is putting it too strongly, but he seemed much the same as the actually-heroic Ed Snowden. WikiLeaks was perhaps a noble service in the beginning. But then it became clear that he only cared about himself, and pure libertarian anarchy. Total "freedom" for all, resulting in real freedom for no one, and a bad life for virtually everyone. He's just a selfish prick who picked on the weak, had mercy for no one, and cared not for any virtuous morality shared by any reasonable person. WikiLeaks became a hub for the spread of disinformation, misinformation, nonsense, and insanity. In my opinion, he's as far from being a hero as anyone can possibly be. A terrible, contemptible human who deserved every minute of the jail time he served, and who will hopefully be mostly forgotten in time, and remembered in reference only as the terrible, thoughtless, careless, barbaric person he is. It's so sad that the world has had enough distance that people are thinking of him fondly now, believing, through the haze and fog of time, that he is some kind of hero. Combing through the terrible and thoughtless things he actually did - including some awful, heinous acts - it's impossible to reach that conclusion.

This should have never happened. Administrations need to be transparent with the truth and should not prosecute journalists for doing their jobs. Interestingly this very issue has culminated at this very point here in the US with continued persecution against those doing their jobs. Congratulations Julian Assange for having the strength to deal with illegal and illegitimate criminal prosecution. We here in the US are proud of you and dealing with the same administration continued lackluster efforts.

'20,000 people turned up' - that's about right for a Championship (i.e. second tier) game in the English football league, and about a third of what you'd get at a Premiership game. My American friends, how does that compare to an NFL or World Series game? In any event, it didn't take 20,000 people to chant like that. How does the MAGA crowd not get bored stiff with Trump making the same speech over and over and over again? And how many of them actually understand even half of what he is saying?

The problem is the court system is it all takes 'too long' or 'too much money'.. There the magic words to always drop cases, or give reduced sentences for otherwise criminal acts (not taking only journalism, but anything). Its soo dumb..... What ever happened to "you do the crime, you do the time" ? Seems that always fails today. And the court reckon justice is served... pfft.. not the way they do things. Money rules everything, "This is costing too much in legal fees" oh ok.. drop the case.. The only thing we are actually good on is solving crimes... Going back 40 years over "cold cases" to resume searching :P

It is conflicting. On one hand he did expose some shitty behavior by the US government in the wars in Iran and Afghanistan, on another hand there was not enough due diligence to protect the agents still in the field by redacting them, for which gross negligence at that level it is a high crime imo. There is also the issue that the guy is Australian, so a foreign country prosecuting a foreign national feels weird but if you are a powerful enough nation you would try to right the embarrassment suffered. At the same time he was a pawn for the Kremlin doing one sided propaganda for Russia. So nothing cut and dry, but it is clear that at the inception at least there was an impetus to do mroe good than bad. Whether that is the case only the State department will know

Even though not a fan of Assange at all, but I guess he's been in jail long enough, I do though think he's an arrogant coward and a typical bully - he's never wrong and nothing is ever his fault - for the most part people do things to them selves and this is no exception, the Ecuadorian embassy was glad to get rid of him - you can bet your life once he's back on Australian dry land all the victim venom and vitriol will pour out of him on every talk show and at every interview.
