Julian got me over a 10 year guitar hiatus. Just emulating some of his licks made all things possible again. I can get lost in it - that was always my goal.

I think this is my new favourite version of this. What a masterclass in dynamics.

This man… no word… as good as humble, stratospheric in every way. Crazy what he can do with a Tele ! Thanks

So great :) I dig Julian played there his Tele again. Not that I didn't like his Gretsch like guitar, archtop or so, but somewhat to me the Tele feels like extension of his mind, he's so articulate and expressive with it. Love it.

I also loved his archtop. I think it’s great that he has recorded with such a wide range of guitars.

I have to agree- the Telecaster is his guitar.He sounds great on his Collings, no doubt, but THIS fluidity, THESE dynamics…unbelievable. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece of guitar playing.

This man playing directly into a Deluxe Reverb and has more dynamics, touch, feel, and just sounds than you'd ever think was possible. I'm certainly inspired!

Amp dont matter, its the fingers

Sorry what’s the significance of the Deluxe Reverb? I thought it was one of the best amps.
@TheAdamBates
@TheAdamBates 20 күн бұрын
@@demejiuk5660 the significance is that he’s playing solo directly into an amp with minimal to no pedals, and still his lines are solid, tone is massive, and dynamic. If you have ever played live solo or with a band, it’s intimidating to have no extra reverb or delays to cover up messups. Julian is just that great.
@demejiuk5660
@demejiuk5660 20 күн бұрын
@@TheAdamBates Doesnt he usually do that but with a Fender Champ 57? It's possible that he usually plays directly into a little Fender Champ 57 which he then mics up. And as for tone without pedals....that's literally what every jazz guitarist that influenced Julian Lage did up until the 60s. Pedals in jazz werent really a thing until fusion came in. So the quintessential clean jazz tone....is clean, no pedals. And don't get me wrong he is one of my favourite gutiarists and I think his tone and dynamics are amazing but that's in his fingers not in his gear i thought that was obvious.

I'm surprised I have never seen Julian play through Milkman amps. They are from San Francisco and I know he grew up around there. They are incredible 60's Fender sounding amps to me. All hand made. Check em out!
@dcaudwell
@dcaudwell Жыл бұрын
He often uses Magic Amps I believe (also hand-made in CA). Re-created, hand-wired, PR and DR amps that are as close to vintage specs as humanly possible but with better speakers, transformers and other components. Julian’s sound is so clean and open I’m not sure Milkman would be a good fit, great as they are. They have a bit of a distinctive Milkman burr on edge-of-breakup and it seems Julian also favours more headroom than he’d get it of the smaller Milkmans.

A lot of his peers play with pedals and amp distortion and lose the transparency, touch and dynamics that Julian seems to revel in.
