LOL...can you imagine the size of the power brick you would need for a 24 slot 18650 charger..... it would need to be at least 12amps if you were going to provide 500mA to each cell , and the size of the circuitry to handle that beast and the heat dissipation...its like a desktop bomb....
@ahaveland5 жыл бұрын
@@sortofsmarter The 5V line of a computer PSU can do over 30A, enough to drive a rack of 24 TP4056 boards at 1A, and for a lot cheaper.
@sortofsmarter5 жыл бұрын
@@ahaveland True, I'm not saying it isn't possible. But depending on circuit design and chip demand you would need more than 5 volts. Even if you passed the current through one schottky diode and had no other losses in your circuit would loose 0.46v right there and now you dont have enough to reach full charge. But there are definitely ways just not cheap...
@ahaveland5 жыл бұрын
@@sortofsmarter No Schottky needed. Please read up on the spec of the TP4056. I know what I'm talking about because I've built a parallel independent charger for just a few quid. They take 5V, and regulate it to follow the charge profile of a liion/lipo cell according to its state of charge. Make two thick busbars, supply negative at one end and positive at the other, hang the TP4056 boards and 18650 sockets off it, and you're done.

From an iSDT manual online.... *_"Activation and restoration functions of excessive discharged battery: When the charging task begins, a 0.1 A current should be applied to activate and restore the battery if the cell voltage is tested to be lower than the pre-charge voltage; on the other hand, it should be adjusted to a rated voltage for charging when the cell voltage is higher than the pre-charge voltage. It is HUGE! Real shame about the poor design regarding the flat top batteries though. Could have been sorted very easily with a button on the top of the charger to move the positive terminal position inwards slightly or just not have that terminal recessed. However. I suspect it has been designed that way to discourage reverse insertion of batteries.
@johnfrancisdoe15635 жыл бұрын
Jason Park Moving the terminal won't be easy, as it's obviously just a dot on the PCB that also holds the LEDs. Avoiding the recess would just need redesigned plastic, but would risk reverse insertion.

It’d probably take a week to discharge 24 batteries with this unit. Most hobby chargers have... basically a heat element with a fan blowing over it to discharge batteries and this clearly doesn’t, so I don’t know that I’d plan on using that feature. That said, I just ordered one(n16) because there’s a giant hole in the market for AA chargers of more than 4 at a time that I would trust to not destroy batteries and/or catch on fire. Yes it’s pricey, but so is everything else from ISDT and it’s worth it to me.

If it could accept 18650, and be controlled via USB (set per-bay modes and limits; and data log voltages and currents lets say every second), it would be an amazing device. The built in firmware is reasonably nice. The graph definitively needs voltage and current units on y axis, and time or capacity on x axis. Not hard to fix. Hacking a firmware (or writing it from scratch) to do it all, shouldn't be super hard, but would be nicer if the source code is available. But lack of 18650, is a bummer. Also, would prefer 32 bays, and 100W , 24V power supply. :D I guess 12V is nice, because you could power it directly from car or 12V battery. There is analysis mode. I wonder how it works exactly. Would be nice, it it could optimize discharge and charge, so when in analysis mode, it discharges some cells, but instead of dumping power it into resistor or mosfet, it uses it to charge some other cells. This way one could even make it almost self contained unit, and not need external power, or very little. Sure, you will eventually need to connect it to power, as there will be losses in redistribution.
