This is stunning singing. I am a singer with 3 degrees in voice and an artist diploma and I am HYPER critical. Her technique is flawless - no tongue tension or holding of the jaw, the sound is even from top to bottom. I recently heard her in Paris - Medée and a concert with a baroque ensemble. Her stage presence is also quite something. I think having won both Operalia and being the grand prize winner at Met LaFont speaks (or sings) volumes about her singing. Brava.

It's funny how people who don't know much about opera technique comment. Her technique is perfect and even flawless, it's well-supported and yet not sforzato, light and crisp.

I'm not saying her technique is bad or even average, but she has a rather small voice, her middle and lower register (no chest voice at all) is weak, her top is shrill, and I found her use of straight tone annoying and inappropriate. And musically, she is boring beyond belief. And yes, I know about opera technique having been taught by the master, Richard Miller, whose books on singing technique are now standard texts in conservatories all over the world. She has an upcoming performance of Medea, a role usually sung by a spinto or even a dramatic Soprano. Unbelievable!

Usually each winner seems to be adored by the audience and listeners, but this is one of the few times where there's division on whether she deserves the win or not because of her voice...
