Here's an a cappella barbershop multitrack render of the popular classic "On Moonlight Bay", written in 1912 by Percy Wenrich (music) and Edward Madden (lyrics). It was brought again in the spotlight in the 1951 musical film "On Moonlight Bay" directed by Roy Del Ruth and starring Doris Day.
Lyrics:
Voices hum, crooning over Moonlight Bay.
Banjos strum, tuning while the moonbeams play.
All alone, unknown, they find me
Memories like these remind me
Of the girl I left behind me
Down on Moonlight Bay.
We were sailing along on Moonlight Bay.
We could hear the voices ringing they seemed to say:
"You have stolen my heart, now don't go away"
Just as we sang love's old sweet songs on Moonlight Bay.

I have lived 62 years to finally be treated to hearing barbershop quartet singing perfected by Julien. I even imagine the composers of the songs would be amazed at their works if they could hear this extremely talented young artist turn every tune into sublime moments.

I couldn't have said it better myself and I'm 62 years old too. I've been singing harmony for most of those 62 years but I just quit. No point in competing with perfection....

Chuck Rice You shouldn`t think that way though, perfection is hard to compete with, but you can only get better, 62 or 32. Follow your dreams, never give up even if you`re 100. If you`ve been studying vocal harmony for that long, you should hone your knowledge and talent, even if you`re not a Class A singer. After all, you`re your own worst critique.

Nobody will believe me but I had a dream yesterday where I was alone in a boat and was signing this song and just sailing along. I had never heard this song before and have no idea how it popped up in my dream. Edit: I'm not even a native English speaker...my first language is Hindi

To be fair, it was a very popular song in its day. It was also featured a number of times on several different Looney Tunes Cartoons. Chances are you’ve heard it before, maybe in the background of a movie, a tv show, or commercial, on the radio, in a store, etc, and even if you can’t remember it consciously, your brain recalls hearing it. Brains are weird like that. We can’t make up human faces, so when we dream about people, even people we don’t know in waking life, the faces we see in dreams are the faces of people we’ve seen before in real life. Maybe someone we saw walking down the street, or on tv, or in a crowd, but every face we dream of is one we’ve seen with our own eyes. Weird, right? I feel like dream music is probably the same way. Your brain probably subconsciously associated sailing with this song, because of the “we were sailing along,” part.

@inneruniverse22 What you're referring to is the "barbershop overtone" that occurs when 4 singers sing their notes at the right pitch. Their harmonics fall into a particular configuration and for a given high harmonic, all 4 singers are producing energy at that particular high pitch, hence the impression you hear a high voice. When it's 4 times the same voice, it's almost *all* there's a lot more matching between the various voices, which produces some strange side effects indeed.

@BlutoLongneck Wow, thank you, I'm flattered and happy you enjoy my work. I sang in choir for a year and realized I could sing tenor 1 or bass 2 and still be audible without yelling too much (maybe a little on tenor 1), so I thought I could try it out on my own, hence the "Lida Rose" video, my first multitrack. I would certainly love for it to take off, unfortunately most people who contact me to obtain my music expect it to be free, so it's not easy. Feel free to share my work around! Cheers

@DereksDiscourse Hey, thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed my acappella rendition. I use Audacity to get the timing right, but it's mostly practice. I sing the lead voice first, freely, to get the flow. Then I practice singing the other tracks with the same dynamics, over and over again until I can sing at the same tempo but with different notes. The lead gives the dynamics, the others imitate it and produce harmonies. Also, check out the info section of my channel for sheet music. Cheers

Of course you realize, Julien, that by one voice singing all four parts you have surmounted the one major hurdle in making barbershop quartet singing successful--- the "organ" effect of voices blending in tune. Yours is the optimal solution.

@GranddaughterCoyote It's more discouraging than difficult actually. If you practice regularly (three times a week for an hour), you can unicyle within a few weeks. It's harder than roller-blading, at least for me, but it's much more fun. The fun thing about unicycling is that when you start, it seems impossible, you simply can't even get on it without falling. And then you get the hang onf it and all of a sudden you can make a few feet...
