Machado was more active in the first round but landed very little. La Cruz evaded pretty much everything with his upper-body movement and footwork stepping out of range. There wasn’t much in these rounds, but the Cuban deserved the win here.

Keno Machado is an adult man who’s seen deep in the Olympics and WC, he isn’t a child like you’re patronizing him to be here. It makes no sense for you to compare La Cruz, a man from Cuba to Canelo a man from Mexico who is an extremely big cash cow. Utterly devoid of any reason. @acetofresh1 Only meant in the sense that because Julio Cesar is already expected to win, he gets the benefit of the doubt in all close rounds, like Canelo. It wasn't that deep. it's like the saying, "To beat the champ, you have to take it from him," but who is so much better than La Cruz that anyone can clearly dominate? Anyway, I thought La Cruz won this fight in particular as he outdogged Keno, and I don't have any conspiracy.

I thought La Cruz won this fight, and more comfortably than the semi-final against Castillo too. Machado was more active, but he wasn’t connecting with anything at range and La Cruz’s upper-body movement proved the difference. The Brazilian landed his best shots timing La Cruz as he came in, but I think La Cruz was the more accurate of the two and the superior ring general . As for his rivals not being that good, I have to disagree. Castillo is probably half a step below the elite at 92kg, but he’s still comfortably one of the best at the weight. Machado meanwhile is pretty much a consensus top 5 guy at heavyweight, who lost to eventual world champion Muslim Gadzhimagomedov by the *tightest* of margins at the World Championships earlier this year. That being said, it’s clear that La Cruz has regressed even further since his triumph in Tokyo two years ago. He’d already lost a step by then, but now his reflexes are noticeably slower and he can’t get out of the way of punches like he used to. Winning gold in Paris next year would be a hell of an achievement, but Mouhiidine should be the favourite.

Nonsense, Julio Castillo had a great fight, but him winning would’ve been more controversial than otherwise. Underdogs fighting good fights isn’t the same as winning. Defense and work rate are scoring criteria. If a guy lands decent shots now and then, but I’d being made to miss, and eating shots at a higher pace, he can be losing, even if you think he had good shots. I don’t even know how Machado won round 2, he barely landed a clean shot and here his best work came in round 3 catching La Cruz’s entries
