He sacrificed the development of his own country in order to liberate the entire Southern Africa. A true continental patriot, a man of greater love. Imagine there was a time all the liberational fighters for these Southern African countries were once hosted in Tanzania at the same time: ANC- South Africa PAC - South Africa Frelimo - Mozambique MPLA - Angola SWAPO - Namibia ZAPU - Zimbabwe ZANU - Zimbabwe He did it at a huge risk because South Africa had the millitary reach to hit Tanzania. Until always, we salute you Mwalimu, One of Africa's greatest sons.

What I also like about him is that he refused to make English an Official Language of Tanzania making the country the only country the only country in Africa that does not have a colonial European language as an official language. I hope and pray that many other African countries follow this example. I remember when I was young we used to be beaten properly in school for not speaking the white man's language English. AFRICA please liberate your mind.

I grew up in Tanganyika when he was president, a lot of people do not remember a lot of people behind the scenes before Tanganyika become independent. Nyerere was incorruptible, smart and cared about Africa, too bad about some of his policies-left in the mid 70's as economically the country was a mess. Nationalization was a failure but he is one African leader that did not leave this world with millions in a Swiss bank account. Nothing but respect for him-cant say the same for the ones who came after him.

The partition of Africa without fighting (peacefully among the colonialists) was like Making of Love😂😂😂...Once the elephants fight, it is the grass that suffer. But also once the elephants make LOVE (partitioning of Africa) it’s the grass (Africans) that suffer 😂😂😂. Nyerere’s point of view (bottom line) from that same Swahili proverb is that... The scramble(fight)for Africa and Partition (division) of Africa was just like a process of making love (Africa was like a conjugal right to the whites)....😂😂😂😂Nyerere you were indeed an intelligent man. A catalyst of development, A torch bearer and above all “My role model “. Rest In Peace eternally.

A great interview. Sadly, the interviewee was streets ahead of the interviewer in terms of intellectualism and eloquence. The result is that one feels the interview was disjointed- no follow up questions. I like to listen to answers more than the questions. Plus...the editing was woefully poor.

I believe that Nyerere was, and remains in History as one of the outstanding figures of the national liberation revolution in Africa, outstanding leader of the State, who ventured to reject capitalism and private property and to make a socialist choice.
