I went to an exhibition fight between Muhammad Ali and Luke Capuano at DePaul University Alumni Hall in 1979 and saw Jumbo, who I knew from the boxing community, and had the pleasure of introducing him to my parents. Nice guy. Fun evening! Had dinner with Ali at the Four Torches Restaurant later that evening. True story.

Yes Rich. Really appreciate this upload, as I knew nothing of Cummings until he came to fight Frank Bruno. Jumbo's reputation preceeded him & Frank seemed nervous before the fight, because of it. You're right about the muscles, as Jumbo & Frank looked like body builders. Frank was so lucky that the bell sounded when it did & he managed to hang on & keep his unbeaten record, until he met Bone crusher a couple of fights later. Great stuff buddy. Bless up 👊

The Russian was not the muscle bound man as Jumbo, just a far superior trained boxer.put Jumbo away with combinations, not one ko punch. Unbelievable, to see a man the size of Jumbo doing the ko dance before hitting the canvas. TIMBER, I'll never forget it.

That's the last thing you want to see...you're opponent for the fight coming the arena in leg-irons and handcuffs. A very interesting story, obviously what he lacked in brains (and morals) was compensated by big muscles and more big muscles. Bruno was such an exciting fighter though, just vunerable enough and limited enough to make every fight a nail biting experience for his (adoring) fans. It's against my national religion to cheer for a British man (;-)) but exceptions were made for Big Frank. Great stuff mate, your channel is fantastic...may it explode in popularity for you.

Another really great production Sir. I love it. It's funny but as a lover of boxing myself I often wonder what became of these top fighters of yesteryear. And many thanks to you we can find out. I remember the Bruno fight very clearly. I grew up with Frank Bruno in London England in the Seventies. South London to be exact. Bruno was from Battersea and I was from Brixton. I am now 62 a little bit older than him but knew him nonetheless. Another British Boxer you could look at if you haven't done so already is a black boxer called Gary Mason. A good heavyweight prospect back in the early eighties. Was a stablemate of Bruno's and came from the same area of south London. Unfortunately Gary died around 20 years ago in a road accident A lovely guy, and just like Bruno a gentle giant also. Keep up the sterling work.

Particularly enjoyed this one on Cummings as there is very little info on him easily avaviable apart from his prison issues. The trouble he had for a spell against Snipes with his breathing, he also had against Bruno, - maybe his massive need for oxygenated blood due to his physique was the issue? Great channel, and thanks! Peace.

Just found this one Rich and it's fantastic. As always. DYN that the '92, ;96 & '00 Olympic heavyweights were from Chicago and all learned to box in prison? Most importantly, they made the most of their second chances after release and are all good men now who regularly spend time keeping young boxers on the right path. IL had a great boxing prison boxing program! The state disbanned the program sometime after 2000.

It's like matchmakers could not resist it: what if we put to of the most outrageous musclemen boxers in the ring together. The poster alone need only feature their torsos to sell tickets. Thus Frank Bruno vs Jumbo Cummings was made. Also, a pretty damn good slugfest!

Excellent piece on Cummings. I remember watching his bout with Frazier, and I'm pretty sure he bit Joe at one point, just like he bit Snipes. If he had a good trainer, who knows how far he might have gone.

It's not that cummings didn't have a chance against the russians in terms of strength, it's just that cummings spent 8 years bodybuilding in prison which has nothing to do with olympic weight lifting.

It seems like Cummings and his biographers did not make any distinction between Olympic lifting and powerlifting. I doubt he trained at all for Olympic lifting in prison or had any idea what was involved. I remember reading about Jumbo in boxing magazines back around 1980

Jumbo Cummings was a powerlifter in prison. I believe he was a converted southpaw. I honestly believe when he had Bruno on queer street, if he switched to southpaw and threw a left cross he would of knocked out a heavyweight contender.

Damn this guy was such a Savage! And it seems like he just couldn't live the right life. He stayed in trouble and he bit someone in the ring way before Mike Tyson ever did. Wonder why he never got that much flack, maybe it's because he's such an unknown. I found myself rooting against him throughout the video after hearing how he shot that store clerk in the head three times. Excessive violence and so much criminal activity. He should definitely write a book before he dies, I want to get his side of things.
