Finally got my friends from back home in Maryland to come up to Massachusetts and fish the Nantucket Shoals with me for some Doormat Fluke. Capt. Joe Huckemeyer runs the Helen H which sails out of Hyannis, MA.

Planning Helen H next season...what type of rods where you using ? Line ? Thanks

Rods are all customs that I made. However for fishing the shoals on the Helen H I like to use a MH to Heavy set up right around 7ft. Since theres alot of people on a party boat (meaning more tangles), I tend to use something on the heavier side because i'll also use more lead to try and keep straight up and down. As far as line, I use 20lb braid and 30lb leader. Don't forget big hooks too! I prefer 8/0 Baitholders or Octopus hooks.

Great video! I think I was fishing to right of you guys in this trip. (I was the guy that took the picture of you guys holding up the three fluke). Did you find any particular color Gulp worked better on these trips?

Small world. Thanks again for the picture. I feel like for me the pink shine worked the best. I've seen almost everything work fairly well though. I've been on there when the pool fish was caught on a new penny colored gulp too.

what size spinning rod should i use for porgy fishing on your boat and do you use 60z or 8oz sinkers
@weekendwarriorfishing3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about porgy fishing. I would assume 6 to 8oz is fine and any 6-7ft medium rod would work as well. This boat is the Helen H and we were just fluke fishing, using anywhere from 10-18oz

What was on your hooks besides the gulp...it looks like both hooks were loaded up?
@weekendwarriorfishing4 жыл бұрын
I was using belly strips on top of the gulp. If they're available on the boat, I'll put on one of those big peruvian spearing too.

A little late to this, but was this a 1 day trip?

It was a 2 day trip. Footage was just from day 1 though.

Why don’t they net the fish??
@weekendwarriorfishing4 жыл бұрын
Good question. My best guess is because the overall size of the fluke up there are alot bigger than most areas. Netting the 8,9,10lb + fish from a rail that pretty high up from the waters surface might get a little tricky sometimes. Also less time spent untangling hooks and jigs from the net. I'm sure the Capt and crew has a specific reason though.

Because the water is like 10 feet below the deck

I've caught a few fluke, but I've never targeted them. This video made me want to give them a shot . If it pleases God.
