It's just like the air conditioners in cars from the 70's. They freeze up and you have to shut it off for 1 half hour. After that you got air for about 400 miles.

You have a bad vacuum accumulator chamber. Unfortunately auto manufacturers cut corners by using shared vacuum accumulator chambers for multiple vacuum systems. So the best solution is to create a bypass vacuum line going to a separate exterior vacuum chamber. But I have no idea how to do that on a truck. But all air conditioning systems in vehicles work in the same manner. So any descent Mechanic should understand this and be able to do the work!

Sounds like low refrigerant causing ice freeze up . When it does that turn compressor of for a few miles and defrost it.
