I always speak too soon, Piedmont of NC has been incredibly hot and dry. It went from a welcome stop to the relentless rain that allowed us to harvest potatoes, garlic, and onions to handwatering everything for almost 2 weeks!

Hoping the relentless stormy and rainy year 2024 has been for the western great lakes and upper Midwest ends soon. It's been awful.

I regularly travel US 70 in the western Piedmont of NC, it has been interesting to watch the corn crop. It took forever for it to emerge with how wet and cool it was, then it shot up 4-5 feet within a week. Now it is dry and starting to twist. The weather has been great for the wheat harvest though, I swear the fields went from green to golden in a day last week. Although going over to drought this summer seems inevitable, I am putting my hopes in our usual disorganized, barely-tropical storm that floats up from Charleston in June/July to stave off the dryness.

South Central Idaho got frost Monday morning. I actually think it may have just reached freezing due to some of the damage my garden has. There was crop damage for the farm but the plants should be able to grow out of it for the most part. But it's a couple of week set back since they have to grow out of it! I want to think the same thing happened last year here.

I remember frost touching Southwestern Wisconsin and Iowa in the early 1990's at this exact time of year. It heavily damaged tons of crops.
