RARE OLDIES SOUNDIES WITH MISS JUNE CHRISTY & HIS QUARTET ! June Christy (November 20, 1925 -- June 21, 1990), born Shirley Luster, was an American singer, known for her sweet, velvet-smooth vocals and for her work in the cool jazz genre. Her success as a singer began with The Stan Kenton Orchestra. She pursued a solo career from 1954 and is best known for her debut album Something Cool. Upon her death, she was hailed as "one of the finest and most neglected singers of her time."
You can watch all my rare oldies soundies on : www.myspace.com... ! Many thanks , NICKY .

June had everything, a cool voice that could be warm, too; great interpretive style; and as her arranger at Capitol Records said, you could throw any change of time or key or anything to her and she could toss if off as it were nothing. She had a happy marriage to the great musician Bob Cooper and a darling daughter named Shay who looked very much like her parents. They lived in a hip home on a hill in Sherman Oaks. When I could not find two of June's albums in the LP days June actually had her producer, Bill Miller, get me copies from the Capitol library! She was from Decatur, Illinois, and already singing with bands by the age of 13.

She had a great voice and phrasing, a kind of mix between Ella and Anita with the heart and soul of June...A tragic waste that she succumbed to alcohol and passed away at such a relatively young age...She had good looks, class and style all rolled into one!!

Can anyone tell me who the band is, she is singing with? They are great :)...Just answered my own question, as I see the film briefly starts with their name "Ernie Filice Quartet"...However, Filice is misspelt on the film titles - it is Felice. And from a web page, a bit more information..."Ernie Felice was a brilliant accordion prodigy who once was part of the Benny Goodman band (during an interview at Benny's house, Ernie so impressed Benny that Benny immediately signed Ernie to his band) and who worked closely (and was personal friends) with Henry Mancini (musical director at Universal), Ray Heindorff (music director at Warner Brothers), Alfred Newman (music director at 20th Century Fox) and Les Paul (Les and my dad started their own record label call F&P Records). When doing his many studio movies, Ernie's quartet was the featured musical talent in movies featuring the likes of Doris Day, Bob Hope, Ray Milland and others."
