I am in shock! You found a Japanese Beetle in your garden?! I thought there were safeguards in place to keep them out of California. They are one of the banes of my existence here in Northeast Ohio. They should be making their presence known anytime now. I will be spending a lot of time picking them off roses, Rose of Sharon, hollyhocks, even my Sand Cherry shrub, etc., and throwing them in a plastic jug with soapy water. I do love your garden tours. Thank you for doing them!
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse

Yes, they are here. Sadly, and finding one in my garden was so disheartening! Garden Happy is just south of me about an hour and a half and she was saying how they decimated her roses earlier this Spring. And I spotted them at Hortons Iris Farm when we visited there, which is about an hour and a half drive from me too but in a different direction. Thanks for watching!

We have to put up traps on outer perimeter or we can’t go outside they get so bad. I’ve only seen a couple on a rose so far.

@kater8730 Ай бұрын
@@dustyflats3832 Yikes! NO traps, they only encourage every beetle from everywhere to come to visit your garden!!! Just pluck and dunk into a soapy pail of water. If you want give the traps to neighbours and let them fly over there!

I like your idea of planting some of the "blanket" flowers next to the purple blooms. We are in a drought here - 105 heat index with humidity. Watering and weeding to save the flowers and shrubs is a daily task in the early morning. Love your garden tours - such a variety of garden rooms!

I am slowly acclimating to our heat here which reached 92 yesterday. But it has been sooo cool for much of the past month then suddenly turns hot, but not that humid. I tried to get out and get a few chores done yesterday but the persperation kept running into my eyes. If not wearing my hat I will need to start wearing a bandana to catch it so I can see.

Pam I can't believe you hated the creamy colour for your deck! I love it. I think it lightened and brightened the space and the grey is just well grey, a cool colour . Everyone has their own likes, your space but I think the first colour was perfect, warm and yet bright to go with your garden. I don't have a deck, I have a flagstone area where I have a table and chairs but we did paint/stain our entire fence and gates and it is a bit darker creamy colour with a pink tone to it to match our brick home and it looks fabulous and my flowers look dreamy with that colour behind them. Love the Eden rose

Well, I have to say that the color looked better on the camera than in real life. My husband and I both agree it resemble baby poop and everytime I walked out there and saw it I wanted to cry. We both are loving the blue of the Driftwood color though on camera it looks gray. I don't like gray so trust me it is more blue than gray. Funny enough though, either way, with the large outdoor rugs I have and all the tubs of plants you really see very little of the actual decking.

Oh my goodness, I cannot tell you how much I love your garden tours and videos! WOW!! TY so much. In regards to metal trellises, do I have to expect to spend a lot of money? Your gardens are SO beautiful! Yes, bring orange flower near to purple..:)
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Ай бұрын
The metal trellis' we put the roses on, next to the house were made from cattle panels. We got some at Tractor supply. When we purchased them they were $75 but are not close to $90. One panel made 3 trellis and I had pieces left over to make other supports with. I think that is what you were asking about.
@kater8730

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse this is great to know! Reasonable vs. buying them if you are handy. Do you need special tools to cut the panels?

I use EcoOrganic rose fertilizer, but mostly on container plants. I add compost in the Fall in a thick layer to the in ground ones and I spray here and there with a rosemary clove oil spray for fungus. It is pollinator friendly and organic.

I started watching earlier and the weather got crazy-Very wet Saturday ending in severe storms with tornadoes. Then the electricity went out for several hours and just came on after midnight. We have no damage, but a few taller flowers will need attention tomorrow. When you see an oak tree do the hula it’s time to take cover. Sooo much Rain!!😮. It’s disgusting outside-humid, no air and lots of mosquitoes. I was able to get out to tie the tomatoes and a few sunflowers up. Not sure if it helped as the leaves on everything look bruised. They say better tomorrow but rain again Tuesday and Friday 🙄. Some areas here and surrounding states have major flooding. I think some orange snapdragons would look nice in artist garden. Right now my orange Butterfly Milkweed is huge and blooming. Tithonia, geraniums and there are orange, purple (Ebb Tide) and white roses. And some Baby’s Breathe. Thanks for the tour. I’m trying to write down things that are blooming weekly in hopes for better coordination down the road. I’m glad I removed most of the poppies as it will help dry the area out better. Hope we don’t have a bunch of fungus problems. I seen the weeds today 😱 and tried not to touch the wet plants. Ugh, this weather-almost impossible to garden.
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Ай бұрын
Wow, that weather does sound extreme. I found some milkweed at a local garden center finally after killing all that I had started from seed. I think I really need to get more serious about clearing out the greenhouse and fogging it. My Ebb Tide rose is still so tiny but is blooming away. I can imagine how the mosquitos would be out of control in that type weather. I would be going crazy.
