I bought the June also - I cooked giant steaks also - (as well as 30 other meats, veggies, etc.) - I put the probe into the meat sideways so I could flip it easier ~ pretty much the same results as you for a medium steak - same 20+ minutes, loud fans, same flipping, and a good eat. BUT, the June takes longer, consumes lotsa power, is an absolute bitch to clean (even with foil liners), and you have to babysit it for the flipping. For the $1,400 I paid, not worth it. In half the time it takes to clean it, I can pan fry same steak on the stove, clean the skillet and be eating the steak. Rarely use the June anymore except for bagels, would not recommend it for anything - tho the videos of food cooking do fascinate friends.

Coming from a Breville does it stack up? I have the Breville model with Air Fryer and love it. But our toaster oven gets a lot of use so the June is intriguing.
@ChrisMasto5 жыл бұрын
Well, it certainly does everything the Breville does, and anything you want a toaster/countertop oven to do. I'd love to offer a more thorough review, but to be honest we don't cook that much in it. I've probably only made 2-3 more steaks in the 18 months since I posted this video. Plus we've also got the sous vide cooker and the smoker and the barbecue grill, so the June ends up making a lot of toast, and frozen pizza for the kid. That's not to say there's anything wrong with it, and with the price of the v2 model it's a lot easier to recommend. It is a very well-made convection oven and even without the smart features, it's fast and accurate. They fixed the bacon program and I'll give it 10/10 there. When the summer's over and we're back to cooking indoors, we'll put it through its paces some more.

You put the probe in incorrectly
@DerrickSderrickisONLINE2 жыл бұрын
Exactly...it goes in the side of the meat not the top. That should help with flipping.
@jaregueldenhaar36437 жыл бұрын
So from what I've seen when people flip them over they leave the probes in and pull the rack out partway so they can flip the steaks with prongs.
@twococksproduction4 жыл бұрын
The probe should be in the side of the steak so you can flip without removing the probe.

Sounds wonderful. Do you have to keep paying monthly subscription to have your June working correctly?
@ChrisMasto3 жыл бұрын
No. There are subscriptions now, but they are only for optional features, like controlling the oven from your phone and access to additional recipes. The prices and features are somewhat hidden on the June web site, you have to find the parts where they talk about premium membership and click more info. But in answer to your question, no, you don't have to pay for the oven's basic features to work.

You started out with freezing cold steaks! That’s why it took so long.
@ChrisMasto5 жыл бұрын
According to Serious Eats, this is a myth. www.seriouseats.com/2013/06/the-food-lab-7-old-wives-tales-about-cooking-steak.html
@roberttschaefer5 жыл бұрын
Christopher Masto - you are talking about a COMPLETELY different issue. You can make an awesome steak from frozen meat, and in fact, many experts prefer frozen to ensure perfect doneness. The issue is time. The video creator is puzzled why his freezing cold steak is taking longer than anticipated.
@ChrisMasto5 жыл бұрын
1. I am the video creator. 2. If you actually read the linked article, you'll see that it is exactly the same issue. My steak was not frozen, it was fresh out of the refrigerator. You can see in the video that the temperature reads 39ºF. Serious Eats started with a steak at 38º and one they'd rested on the counter for two hours. And I quote: "Not only did they come up to their final temperature at nearly the same time (I was aiming for 130°F), but they also showed the same relative evenness of cooking, and they both seared at the same rate." 3. Even if you were correct that a cold steak takes longer to cook, the June Oven knows the temperature and could have given a better estimate based on that fact. That's the whole point of having a "smart oven" festooned with sensors and software.

How much power does this appliance need to use? Do you think it will make the generator go out?
@ChrisMasto5 жыл бұрын
Well, you can go to their web site juneoven.com/the-oven and see that it says 1800 Watts. I can't tell you whether that will make your generator go out, in the event you need to cook a steak during a power outage.

Appreciate your analysis. In this video I was giving you my raw thoughts as I experienced them. I had never used this function before, and my question about closing the door at 3:50 was about to trying to understand what would trigger the oven to know I had finished flipping the steaks. There's no confirmation button on the screen, it just assumes that when the door opens and closes again, that you've done it. As you may be aware, June revised the steak program to remove the step of turning it over. Presumably many of their customers experienced problems with the original method.

So how is the June one year later?
@ChrisMasto6 жыл бұрын
That's a really good question. I'm planning to make a new video on just that topic as soon as I get a chance. Short answer is that I still like it, but they've changed the steak settings to not work as well.

what about keeping it clean !
@ChrisMasto5 жыл бұрын
It's very hard to clean. The new model is supposed to be easier, with a stainless steel interior. The experts at June tell me that Easy Off will help get the stubborn grease off. I haven't tried it yet.
@SuntzuMocro7 жыл бұрын
does it make a lot of sound?
@ChrisMasto7 жыл бұрын
It's very loud when the fans come on. I'm actually wondering if mine is defective, since they say on the web site that it's quiet. It's the opposite of quiet.

I am sure after a months use, say once a day use it would be crusted up to hell - you would need to clean it every day - or line it with foil

I saw another video when an IDIOT said why I need to roast a chicken when I can go to Costco and get one for $5.00. I answer Why you need a kitchen just go to restaurant.........
