Ironically, Suga is the one who really loves cute soft things and enjoys the cuteness culture that exists in South Korea. He was the one to come up with the idea of BTS doing the cute versions of their songs (which basically sounded like kid versions of the song). Many new fans wondered how much they had to pay him to do those cute performances only to find out that he was the mastermind. He's grown to have a seemingly tough shell but he's a massive softie and the younger members know they can act cute around him to get whatever they want to get away with things he'd otherwise scold them for. They know his weakness and aren't afraid to use it lol. The duality of Suga is a rabbit hole too.

OH wow, this is the first time hearing of this. Though, I really do know/believe he's a softy...his tour and Suchwita episodes have made that clear. Is there original sources I can check out re: cute versions coming from Yoongi?

i don't think a "feminine" pose, whatever that means, should be a trigger to any negativity from the audience or regret from the boys themselves. their debut images were way more stereotypically tough, manly, hiphop, etc, i suppose because of pressure to present themselves "correctly" but i don't think they care since long ago about how they are all positioned in this discussion anymore. they've talked several times that they don't like these boundaries; they wear make up without doubting it as an "only female" option; they don't care about gender of the clothes - you'll often see them casually wearing female blouses, jackets etc on some events or just everyday life, Jungkook's clothes often belongs to the genderless brands; they had photoshoots and performances in unisex style with skirts and dangling earings and gems and pearls and whatever society tends to mark as female thing it's important to mention too that their journey up from the debut is one of letting go of the toxic masculinity and the more you see them grow in these 10 years the more you see that they have no problem with being feminine, in appearance or in behavior this especially was an important journey for jimin who struggled with their debut image, as tae said, jimin didn't have many opportunities to express himself. and jimin's own words to himself years later were "i don't look like im about to weep anymore, i don't. that's the difference as per my appearance goes. i think i wanted to appear like a strong man, now i don't have to pretend. i can just be myself, talk about myself without pretending anything. [addressing himself in the past] you were trying really hard, i was impressed and moved by you. i could feel how hard you were trying. your eyes looked eager to show something. i felt somewhat sorry for you too, i was shocked a bit. hurry up and be me soon, you will learn and realize so many things" just want you to understand that it wasn't a "feminine behavior" pushed on "real men", but rather "a tough character" pushed on normal boys i'll leave here a quote from the recent Rolling Stones interview just to give you boys' own words on the matter of masculinity: It’s not uncommon for the members of BTS to shed a tear or two while they’re addressing fans onstage. Along with their comfort with makeup and iridescent hair dye, it all plays into their instinctive rejection of rigid conceptions of masculinity. “The labels of what being masculine is, is an outdated concept,” says RM. “It is not our intention to break it down. But if we are making a positive impact, we are very thankful. We live in an age where we shouldn’t have those labels or have those restrictions.” Another interview: “There is this culture where masculinity is defined by certain emotions, characteristics. I’m not fond of these expressions,” Suga tells me. “What does being masculine mean? People’s conditions vary day by day. Sometimes you are in a good condition; sometimes you aren’t. Based on that, you get an idea of your physical health. And that same thing applies mentally. Some days you are in a good state; sometime you’re not. Many pretend to be okay, saying that they are not ‘weak’, as if that would make you a weak person. I don’t think that’s right. People won’t say you’re a weak person if your physical condition is not that good. It should be the same for mental condition as well. Society should be more understanding.”

7:34 Just to clarify like some others have "HYUNG" is a term of endearment as well as respect And you wouldn't call someone hyung that you arnt close to or at the very least are trying to develop a close relationship with All the Younger members still call older members hyung. 14:45 They were actually posing how they wanted to pose...... they were being silly/goofy and tended to do poses like that alot. Jin was crying because he had a wardrobe malfunction. His pants fell down. Whomever attached his mic pack on his backside did not secure it and it pulled at his pants. Of course he was so embarrassed. His first time on stage ever. But luckily, it was a rehearsal, and they got it fixed for the actual performance.

fun fact - the guy at 3:07 (Tablo) and 4:25 (Tiger JK) are two well-respected rappers and considered pioneers of Korean hip-hop. BTS looked up to them during their debut days, and now they’re good friends! Especially the rapline - they’ve collaborated on songs and often interact / show their support. It’s amazing to see how far their hard work has gotten them, and how their craft is (rightfully) respected by their older peers in the industry :’)

In their debut days, Yoongi was definitely stepping out of his comfort zone for the fans, trying to bring the energy. It's always impressed me that all 7 of the boys were such good sports, willing to give 100% for the sake of the team. That said, I'm really glad that BTS is now in a place where they (hopefully) don't feel the need to put on an act for ARMY, they can just be themselves.

One thing you will notice abt BTS as you go along this journey is that at first they tried so hard to adhere to the concept of hiphop and its masculine centered tendencies. But you will still see them as chaotic and free spirits while doing their own thing, like the "feminine poses they did." As years go by, they have become freer to express themselves as young men and they go about their likes and dislikes. It resonated with so many people even though they were just doing their own thing- they wore "feminine" clothes and accessories, they cried when they were sad and were open about it, they talked about love for oneself, for family and friends, they talked about deep philosophical things they read about or seen in movies etc... They wreaked so many havoc on the biases and prejudices of so many people. They showed that it is okay to be those things, to like those things. When called out for misunderstood lyrics as misogynistic, what Namjoon did was, he apologized and held himself accountable, he asked a Women's Studies professor to proofread his lyrics to make sure it won't happen again. So yeah, you might find yourself cringing when you catch yourself doing something not totally your style but was influenced by the members, that is okay. They do influence us in the most positive way that is life changing. That is guaranteed. They just are so positive despite and in spite of the challenges they faced and the fame they have. This is the BTS influence dude. And if people around you give you shite about it, maybe it's time to indoctrinate them to the BTS way? 😅😂 But seriously though, preconceived notions are gonna be blown to smithereens. They do inspire us to be better, you know?

Just FYI, V didn't join later than the rest. He was just hidden from the audience until they debuted. In fact, Jimin joined even later than him. They just didn't want to reveal V yet. So it's not that he wasn't there, he just wasn't shown to the public. And they still call the members that are older 'hyung' until this day.

15:24. Hmmmm? Your comment about them posing in a feminine way comment was puzzling to me. You said they were copying poses like the other groups. Posing feminine? Their costumes were the opposite of feminine. Their choreography was opposite of feminine. Portraying being bulletproof is opposite of being feminine. In fact their stereotype they labeled themselves back then was highly masculine. And you think that style of posing was feminine? I could be wrong. But all of the poses BTS took that made it to print and marketing were not feminine. What you saw...I think...was a silly pose after they had finished taking all their serious masculine poses. A break from all their hard work. In my opinion. The poses you saw on their vlogs and videos were of them goofing off and acting crazy. And yes, they were young. But to this day ..the old age they are now...they still pose goofy and crazy and youthful sometimes. But from my perspective none of their silly poses back then were feminine. I understand I come from a completely different point of view. You come from a strength training body building environment. And I think maybe that limits your view. You said your friends looked down on them and considered them feminine. I get that. However, I don't think BTS ever got any negative press or any questionable articles written about them appearing feminine. If they did, I've never seen or heard about it. Other than those underground rappers calling Suga and RM girls because they wore makeup. You are right. All performers were makeup. Otherwise they would look blank and "dead" on stage. I can promise you this. Even when they turn 40 and 50 and 60 and older...they will take their serious non feminine photos for the press articles. But also, they will always take silly funny goofy "feminine" pics also. But they do not think they are feminine. Just funny. Just letting go. Just being themselves. Young at heart poses.

I understand what he means, although I'm used to BTS now so the "feminine" image is not as noticeable to me anymore as it did at first when I was new. For people like me who did not (technically still don't) follow kPop- the makeup, poses and many times the way they are dressed are noticeably and visibly seen as feminine. This is why many new BTS reactors comment on the femininity look at first and ARMY defends BTS in the comment section-- I've seen this time and time again. For this particular clip at the time stamp - BTS did several poses. I think he's referring to a couple of the pose that comes across as feminine- one is the aigo pose. Guys don't typically act cute like this- girls/women do. As for makeup-- there's a difference between Kpop makeup and standard stage performers makeup. In fact, I've never heard people comment about BSB or NYSCH (I know I'm aging myself) or even Justin Bieber's makeup-- because the makeup is not noticeable the way it is on BTS and Kpop idols. KPop makeup does make them look more feminine to people like me who's not used to seeing that amount of makeup or eyeshadow and colored lip gloss on men. Now, as a hardcore fan- I love all their goofy pictures and poses and all of the Jimin's iconic aigo :)

So, just to clarify some things... in this particular era several BTS members were actually pushing themselves to be more macho than they really were. They were avoiding being feminine at all costs due to their hiphop origins and the criticisms they got from the underground scene. Specially this tough macho image took a heavy mental toll on Jimin and Jin. Jimin later talked about coming to terms with his self image and masculinity in 2016. He stopped trying to be all manly and just became himself. Jin talked about how in 2015 finally he allowed himself to be more goofy and therefore he felt free for the first time. Its only after 2016 that BTS for the first time tried more "feminine" or more androgynous styles. You will what i mean when you get to the WINGS album. So what i want you to understand is that bts from 2016 accepted more gender fluid styles to finally free themselves from the limitations of masculinity. In 2016, they had a high fashion image, with heavy makeup and references to the book Demian where a man kisses another man at the end of the book, symbolic of growing up. In 2019 they made a song called boy with luv where they wore all pink and sang abojt having love wothin themselves. None of the bts members are scared of being percived as feminine... if that means being free. They wear bright hair colors, high fashion cloths, heavy makeup. Jk loves Gender fluid styles.... jhope even recently wore nail polish for the entirety of his album promotions. Its about freedom and expression.

Amazing channel. I've always had this androgynous look as guys in K POP, but in my case it was a real fuel for bullies when I was growing up. I embraced it, used it to my advantage in my acting / modeling career, I was almost the face of Leon in these new Resident Evil games :) To anyone who's ever been a victim of hate / violence because of their appearance, gender, orientation, race : DO NOT ever let a hateful notion 'there's something wrong with me' sink in. Trust me, it's a recipe for self hatred and compulsive anxieties later on. When we suffer and we need a break, it's only natural to think: 'maybe if I wasn't 'different', if I was 'normal' I would be accepted. No, haters will always find something else to prey upon. They're extremely toxic who can see your potential and value but will drag you down with intent and hideus determination, when they notice a slightest sign of insecurity. Remember; There's never anything wrong with you.

Just think of all the people you helped by saying that! So again, Bravo. Applause. Standing Ovation Interestingly enough, I'm an older woman, 69, and I get bullied too. I am physically disabled. And my neighbor guy says I should go live in an "old folks home". Hilarious to me to hear that because no doctor has ever mentioned that to me yet. I do quite well for having scoliosis, spinal stenosis, neuropathy, and arthritis. My precious little doggy died last year this time. He was my service animal. He lived 18 long years. Despite my disability I walked him with my walker or canes for at least 4 times a day. And more if he wanted too. Every day and in every weather type no matter really hot or cold I was out walking. Far from needing an old folks home!!! The neighbor guy got mad when I asked him to move his chairs off the sidewalk so I could have a clear path to walk. Happy holidays to you. And continue spreading the Truth!

Respectfully disagree with some of your statements. I do not think the funny or goofy poses are the reasons for how some people put labels on others or propagate "stereotypes" which should not be done in the first place. I also have noticed that you seem to describe certain things in terms of "masculine" or "feminine" even in one In The Soop episode you labelled certain chores as masculine. There is no gender with chores. Please bear in mind that you probably have a global audience who do not see things the way you do. I understand that your observations are based on your experiences but making generalizations and judgments especially about BTS may be off the mark as you grew up in the US and your frame of reference is that of a Western lens and influenced by your background. BTS will not fit that frame of reference.

They do still address the older members 'hyung' it's just that the subtitles exclude it. For example, JK. He addresses all the other members 'hyung' because all of them is older than him. The same goes to the other members. They must address 'hyung' to whoever member that is older than them. (ex. Jin-hyung, Yoongi-hyung, Namjoon-hyung)

I think your attitude regarding prejudice and stereotypes is a bit misguided. Instead of saying "these people were doing this so it's only natural that others would judge them" the actual growth from prejudice would be "there's actually nothing wrong with these people doing this, I was just brought up to believe there was" because if you think bts in 2023 have stopped doing cute poses you are sorely mistaken lmao. They do not care if people see them as masculine or feminine because that way of thinking only puts people in boxes. Also try not to do the same to individual members, namely Suga, because every person on earth is multi-faceted and even an introvert can get wild and crazy if they're with people they love and trust and Suga really loves his members, family, and his fans.

BTS In The Soop) but if you listen, they called older members with hyung (re: hyeong). seokjinie hyung, yoongi hyung, hobi/hoseokie hyung, namjoonie hyung, jiminie hyung, taehyungie/v hyung, & jungkookie.

Since kpop is more of an industry than a genre, many people who were once idols move on to do other things in the industry. Some may become dancers, choreographers, teacher in the arts, actors (many idols are in kdramas too), solo singers, show hosts, MCs for shows, or re-debut in another group. Also, since idols are expected to complete their education (often including college), many can transition into normal jobs too if they're done with that life entirely.

Its not a MV, you havent missed out on anything. The dancing you were talking about is a consept trailer for the album, it was released as promotional video before they released the second album. There is a dance practice video for that, but its not related to their songs. If that makes sense. And you can absolutely watch Rise of Bangtan without going through all of their MVs first, most of the content on Rise of bangtan is not really about their music, its much more like behind the scenes content.
