4 жыл бұрынThe self-titled "GaMetal" album tracks begin with this small medley of Contra songs: Jungle, Base, and the Boss theme!
While the Type A theme from Tetris was the first official GaMetal song in 2009, the first game song I covered, ever, was the Jungle theme from Contra back in 2005. I had planned to cover the entire soundtrack, and actually got pretty far into it, only falling a few songs short.
Needless to say, I wasn't very skilled back then, so it sounded like complete trash, but back then I thought it was awesome. I know better now.

Jungle is the first game song I ever, EVER covered back in 2005. You can hear it on the Bio page on JonnyAtma.com, it's TERRIBLE! Haha, but really though, with the "GaMetal" album being a "reboot" of the GaMetal universe, I absolutely had to start off with the very first game song(s) I ever recorded. We're just getting started everyone, lots more songs coming throughout the week, stay tuned! (PS: I forgot to throw in the gameplay footage credit graphic, Airsh did this one so shoutout to him!)

The original isn't bad at all! It's got sort of an endearing charm to it. Not to say that I don't prefer this version, though (I like both equally).

Just listened to some of your 2005 & 2009-2012 stuff (including this) not too long ago. While I don't think that early stuff is "terrible" by any means (in fact I really enjoyed it) you have certainly come a long way and the polished skills are definitely showing in this remastered cover! Looking forward to the rest esp Waterfall/Snowfield, and Tetris Theme A.

@@Volcanic_Rave Not only have I not heard it, but I can't find the song to listen to either on his site, or here. But that aside, I am personally used to listening to a lot of metal from the early-mid 80's (stuff most people now-a-days consider bad metal). So I feel while rough around the edges, what I've heard has been a far cry from terrible. And, trust me, you wouldn't want to hear me try to cover a song on guitar... now THAT would really be terrible!

Trunksu 25 it’s on the old section of the site, I’m pretty sure it’s labeled as SM64 main theme. That specific remix has become a joke in the Discord due to how awful it is.

@@Volcanic_Rave Thanks I'll have to go check it out! Is it the one that's more jazzy less metal sounding, kinda really heavy on the drum flourishes? If so, trust me I heard way worse, but admittedly it's less the style that I'm used to from his music. The issues mainly seem to be the recording levels for each of the instrument tracks being out of balance. also admittedly I've listened to a lot of music from beginners to amateur to pro in many genres, over many years. Perhaps my threshold of terrible is lower than the average as a result :/ edit: if you're speaking in a comparative sense from his early days to now in terms of the quality of his music, then yea I'll agree his songs/musicianship today blow away his earlier stuff so as to be almost not comparable.

For all us non-Patrons: What's the chance that Jonny goes through the entire album in chronological order of when he first did the song, from oldest to newest? The first two songs will be getting done in that chronological order, after all. What about the rest? ...And what's the chance that all 10 songs ARE the first 10 songs he did, in that chronological order? While I'd be disappointed that Jonny won't get to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Main Theme if that's the case, this would explain the Journey to Silius references he made in the trailer (Journey to Silius is one of the games represented in his NES Medley #1). ...And while this would explain the Gourmet Race quote in the trailer (even if this means that Jonny gets to do that theme for the third time, and given that his second time got into OCRemix...), it would not explain Cloud's Buster Sword showing up in the trailer (for Those Who Fight from Final Fantasy VII).

I’m pretty sure I can safely say that the animation doesn’t entirely have relevance to the album, since 1: there was no mega man song that early and 2: judgment hall/sans are there

@@Volcanic_Rave Sans showing up is definitely a reason to disregard the trailer, although it turns out that Jonny Death actually did do a Mega Man song and released it in 2010 according to that Newgrounds page: Cossack Citadel. Why it doesn't appear in his website (but gets acknowledged in the May Madness Cossack Citadel page), who knows.
