WOW what a trip down memory lane!!!! I realize this video is three years old, but I have to believe that if things were more or less the same three years ago as they were over 20 years when we lived in West Chester, they are probably the same today. I can't believe the kitschiness is still very much present there, and am so happy it is!!! My kids were very young then, and they could not wait to get to the animatronics of Elvis. That was how they survived the boring (for them) shopping experience. And the cereal band is still there??!!! And the international section with the storefronts. OMG thank you for this lovely tour. It brings back so many memories that had not come to mind for a very long time.

Upon my first visit to the Fairfield store, I was immediately drawn to the fire truck hot sauce section. When I saw the Tonya Harding bottle of hot sauce that claims to "make you weak in the knees" I knew I stumbled on an epic supermarket. I've visited once a year since then.

Hi, Kristin! It was a while I didn't comment on one of your videos... In this take (6:22), just before you've turned right, do you remember if the GIGANTE sign was from the Mexican supermarket / hyper market chain of the same name? I'm NOT Mexican, but somehow it was familiar from other YT / Google watchings. Their largest store in Mexico is pretty much as GIGANTE (32K sq. m.) as this Jungle Jim (they even had 7 US stores in Mexican "barrios" until they sold their business to another Mexican store group in the late Aughts). PS: Most likely Jungle Jim may have a few items from "the Island" (Puerto Rico) in there...
@UniCommProductions

I think the Gigante sign may have been made specifically for them but it's really interesting to hear the origin of the sign, and yes, they absolutely do have a Puerto Rico aisle!

@syxepop The first few times I seen this sign I always thought it was a Papa Johns sign especially seeing it from the distance.
@syxepop
@syxepop 3 жыл бұрын
Michael Cain - you're right, as it does look like a Papa John's sign from afar. But I've seen the Gigante sign from a female Mexican YTer that does product / store history videos (she did one video on that particular chain that you may search on. YT by the Gigante name). The main store of that chain used to be the largest in La Republica and is about the same size as this Jungle Jim's Kristin did a tour on...

Fun story from when I visited here: An African American dude, who smelt very strongly of weed, was so convinced I was a Nike shoe designer he'd read about that he insisted on opening a bottle of Hennessy that he had just bought and pouring out a shot for me. The cashier was not thrilled!

They were surprisingly cool when I did this, an employee even apologized for walking in front of me...and I was prepared to need to be discreet because I usually film malls which 90% of the time are NOT OK with filming in there. (Most of this was shot on a little action camera similar to a GoPro attached to my cart with a mount that's usually used for handlebars.). I have to think that since guys like Adam the Woo and The Carpetbagger have brought a lot of publicity through their KZfaq channel that they've rethought their stance on photos and video.

I love watching your videos guys. My guilty pleasure has been letting them stack up and binge them for hours while I work from home. When you did my home town mall in Findlay a while back, I was hooked. Been in California for about 16 year now, but it's awesome to see the state and area I grew up in , in glorious vaporwave fashion. I always get a chuckle at the lounge versions of sonic the hedgehog and street fighter theme songs low key laced throughout your videos from time to time. I appreciate you guys a whole bunch. I hope you guys are doing well.

I’m surprised that you didn’t catch me on video at the deli counter or in the “pop” aisle… *grin* Beyond their vast food selection, the store has another good attribute you lightly touched upon with the brief glimpse of their refurbished monorail system they purchased from King’s Island when the amusement park eliminated that vintage 1970’s-era ride. It’s nice to know that, when the city of Cincinnati abandons their multimillion-dollar streetcar system due to lack of riders, those fancy street cars will always have a welcome home at Jungle Jim’s. *smile*

It's about 40 minutes, on the highway it's on the exit between Forest Fair Mall and Tri County Mall. That's one of my favorite parts, too--you can tell when you walk inside those that in a previous life those little "country shops" were tractor trailers and that was once a loading dock, which is an ingenious repurposing of what would have otherwise been a big hole in the wall!

Peanut butter and jelly and also pumpkin pie, are the only 2 sodas I'd try on the shelf you filmed! No thanks, to any of the others you showed. Oh yeah, and I definitely do want to check out Jungle Jim's one of these days! Of their 2 stores, which one do you like the most? If someone did something silly like a Moxie challenge or anything similar on those lines, maybe I'd very reluctantly try any of those? Not sure if Moxie is sold here btw, lol. I also love their decor and collection of various things(i.e. animatronic characters) they have inside the store, as well!
@UniCommProductions

The Eastgate one has a lot more floor space so at times they're busy, it feels a lot less cramped. (Which is the location we will be covering next week.). They have Moxie--which I tried a year or so ago and didnt care for. The fun atmosphere definitely makes this the sort of place that makes it easier to entice little kids to go to the grocery store with you (which I don't have, but I know I hated going out for errands when I was one!)

Wonderful video, Kristin ... now I feel like hopping in my car and driving all the way to Ohio just to see - and shop - at this place! I mean what else is there to see in Ohio? The William Howard Taft birthplace? The boyhood home of Warren G. Harding? I only wish you zoomed in on a few more weird products for sale ... I enjoyed seeing the bottles of Mustard flavored soda (I'm from Philly, do they have Cheesesteak flavored soda? I'd try that!) Best wishes and here's hoping you'll reach 2K subscribers soon! It’s a shame those old Pizza Time Theatre characters are in such bad shape. There’s videos on here where people have their Elvis the Lions up and running like they were back in the early 80’s at CEC. Rumor has it that Jungle Jim got his from the Cassanelli Square location that caught on fire many years ago. He used to have a Dolli Dimples by the checkout lanes many years ago and even a Billy Bob from Showbiz Pizza at one time. I guess he sold them off or something.

Oh may goodness there's too much to unpack in this video LOL for starters the whole place looks like a market you would find in a Resident Evil game with all that extra stuff they put in there, I bet you there's a few lost keys around those statues, I could get lost in there for weeks just thinking of all the stuff I could make, 11:32 none of those sound good to drink I'm sorry to anyone who enjoys those but no I would not drink any of those unless I went to someones house and they offered one and I didn't want to upset them when I guess I would try it. All in all great video as always, love watching them and looking forward to the next one.

Thank you for watching--it's kind of amazing they manage to keep all that stuff in a grocery store and keep it that clean too! All of those sodas feel like "stunt" drinks no one would enjoy and it would only be consumed as a dare. Way back in the day, Jones Soda used to release this "Thanksgiving Dinner" set with turkey, stuffing, green bean, etc soda and my brother and I got one and drank shot-glass sized portions of them before dumping them down the drain. They were just awful.
