I just played this guy last week when he was ranked Legend #14. I was surprised to find him in Asia Battle Hub, and there wasn’t a long cue since he was beating everyone so badly.

They really need to make raw drive rush cost 1 more bar if it's blocked or something. Hearing the lines yelled out for activating it every few seconds over and over drives me insane with people treating it like a cheap command dash that gives plus frames (oh wait, that's what it is plus a juggle). Sure, you can be checked, but that doesn't really feel like a punish on par with something like FADC'ing through multiple fireballs then having a jab do like 40% as it destroys all the gray health you built up and didn't let regen. Maybe just always count as being a counter hit if you're checked, so there's room for a stronger punish, making people second guess using it as much. Maybe then my sanity will come back after not hearing "HERE I COME" and whatever the rest of the cast yells when they're sliding halfway across the screen at mach 1(Dee Jay).

The only way to incentivise people not to mash drive rush is making burnout a death sentence. As it stands now, drive rush has next to no downsides out of all the drive options. They made most normals minus on block so people mash on drive rush to stay plus and there is 0 reason not to do it when you land a hit. My number one issue with this game is that in past SFs you had to make the most off a confirm but you're always guaranteed 60% damage if you land a hit and drive rush heavy loop into a special into level 3. The game needs a MASSIVE damage nerf because as it stands it is immensely boring to play and watch when you're only gonna see 4 characters every tournament

Nah, they just gotta make it riskier to throw out. Increasing the cost doesn't decrease the incentive of using it in neutral. The player that successfully checks the drive rush should be far more rewarded than what it is now, and the buffer window for checking the DR should be way clearer and more responsive. Aggressive play should be optional in this game but not made overbearing like it is now or useless like players want it to be.

This is a terrible idea and I think the problem you have is more of a personal issue with how you deal with these mechanics. When people get more frustrated or don’t enjoy the game as much, then they generally play worse. I’ve been there but these games are about enjoyment. When you stop trying to figure out how you can approach things in the game then you not only stop progressing as a player, but also the frustration people feel reflects in their gameplay. It’s okay to lose, and when you do lose, you should think about what you as a player could have improved upon. The only change I could see drive rush needing is that each character could have an equal footing in the speed of their drive rushes. DeeJay and Zangief for example having vastly different speeds makes it more of a difficulty to react to a mid screen rush in DeeJays favor.

I’ve heard of two possible balances: 1. Being in Drive Rush always puts you in a Punish Counter state 2. If you are checked during Drive Rush, you continue to stumble forward like how you fall forward in 3rd Strike if you are sweeped during your forward dash.
