Pam,this is my favorite journal from all I have seen! I envy whoever purchased this as I would have loved to have all the treasures you included. The vintage ephemera is what had me from the very first page! The paper doll and vintage valentines brought back a flood of memories. I really admire your passion for art,paper,books and writing.

What a beautiful journal. I purchased a turkey to raise for the holidays...he was very small so he needed lots of extra care. Needless to say, I named him Stan and he never became dinner. He was sweet and affectionate and never mean. I had him almost three years. He followed me all over the farm and always gobbled when he saw me. White turkeys do not have a long life span which is sad but we have fun a wonderful life and he gave us so much love. Never world have thought a turkey could be so smart and sweet.

When I was young, we couldn't afford paper dolls - yes we were that poor😊. My mom worked at a 5 & Dime store. When they would retire the pattern books for sewing, she would bring one home for me. I'd cut out the pictures of people and use them for paper dolls. I had complete families to play with. Had lots of fun creating long stories of their lives. Somewhere along the way, I did own one paper doll with her clothes ( I think a friend gave her to me because she got a new set). I think I enjoyed the cutouts the most, even though I couldn't change their clothes. Ah the memories...

I am enjoying watching this & listening to you while cutting pictures out of an old Martha Stewart holiday book. If how I wish I had vintage paper dolls sets from my childhood. Yes, roosters can be mean. My first memory was when I was about 6 yrs old when I tried to mimic a rooster who was crowning. Don't fo this, they don't like it. I still have the scar on my knee 60+ something years later.

You made laugh about the family with the turkey when you said the little girl didn’t know what was coming. Brought back memories of when we raised all our cows,, chickens and pigs. It was my job the bottle feed the calves and feed the pigs. (I refused to go to the chicken coop to collect eggs). I so got very attached to them. I knew we were raising them for food but I always cried when it was time for them to leave us. I usually refused to eat the meat. My mom and dad “took care” of the chickens when it was time to turn them into food. I was luckily at a horse camp at the time.

Oooooh what a BEAUTY! Of course by now I know the journal will be totally amazing. You're supremely talented. The zine is also awesome! Totally agree with the butter thing (as a former nutritional advisor I just don't allow any margarine in the house - and certainly don't want it inside my body)! I used to play with paper dolls when I was a kid! Even liked just cutting them out. It was such a joy finding them in special ladies magazines. Speaking of Paris, I worked as an au-pair in Paris 1983! I couldn't speak French, so at that time I found the Parisians very rude (I've heard this is no longer the case!)! Did not learn any French either unfortunately, since I worked with Swedish people (Ingrid Bergman's ex husband was my employer. Today the 5-year old boy I took care of, is a 42-year old successful photographer in the States!!). :)
@ThePaperOutpost4 жыл бұрын
That must have been a fascinating experience! How exciting! I agree on margarine! Blechh!!!! My hubby and I went to Paris for our honeymoon back in 96. I ate way too many chocolate croissants but loved each and every buttery one of them :) I arrived in the USA from Canada in 84. Guess we were both exploring different countries about the same time :) Thanks for who you are Ditte! :)

That german writing font you like is called Frakturschrift I'm german, 32 and when I was a little girl I was so fascinated by my grandma's old books I had her teach me how to read it. German is ridiculous in terms of language, we have two types of cursive (that I know of) and the grammar basically gets changed every couple of years lol I love that font too, it's so bold and respect-inducing (I think I'm making that combo word up just now) but you get the gist. Your books fascinate me. How you manage to price them or even sell them at all is beyond me. They are so valuable that in my opinion no price is high enough. All the effort and just everything going into them... I see why they cost what they do (although I feel they are worth much more), not that I am in a position to buy one but it's nice to just watch you flip through. Every single one is really a being of its' own. I love that you name them or give them a backstory. Really beautiful work. One day when we're all dead and long gone, people are gonna find your journals and say "oh this is a pam book...) 😆 you'll be known as being one of the people spearheading the junk journal artistry movement hahaha 😝
@ThePaperOutpost4 жыл бұрын
LOL, you are a hoot! My hubby's family is from Germany and my step sister is a German teacher. They all tell me what a complex language it is.
