This wood slab was junk, but I'm going to sell it for $5000! Get matched with a therapist who will listen and help. Get 10% off your first month: betterhelp.com/jonnybuilds Thank you to BetterHelp for sponsoring this video. I built this epoxy resin coffee table using a maple burl cookie slab with a walnut mid century modern style base. That was not the original plan, though.

To be honest, I think the bowties detract from the piece. The table itself looks like an island in the tropical ocean (dark blue epoxy would have really sealed the deal), so the cracks would have looked like natural channels of water. (Just my opinion)

When I look at the finished product it reminds me of an Atoll. I like how it came out with the black but I wonder what it could have looked like with a lighter blue epoxy in the middle and a darker blue on the outside.

I believe this would have made this piece stand out so much better and look way more premium. I agree that the bow ties did not fit here at all, almost looks like they were added just to include it in the video for some reason. The small gold lines to fill up the cracks, in combination with the dark epoxy and wood would've been really nice!

I've always had the thought the base, legs, etc. of a table should be regarded in the same way a frame for a painting is. It can kill a painting or bring out the best in it. I liked the design for the original base but not the material used, that is the plywood. The second design choice seemed stolid to me and lacked the novelty and style that the top slab with epoxy had, which was very interesting but not overwhelming.

@Teresa Valliere. A nice idea BUT... This would not work so well because as you add each resin layer to the piece then the "tide line" where each layer finishes and the new one /colour (note British English spelling 🙂) starts would be quite noticeable, rather than a changing blend as I think you are implying. A practicle solution might be to use a different "grade" of resin which permits pours of up to 4 inches but this still would not give you the changing tint, rather being able to see further to the base of the table. However, this brings its own complications re overheating / curing problems!

He will. People go gogogaga for a warped piece of wood filled with plastic. It's the ultimate 21st century fad. 10 years from now most of these tables will be yellowed, warped and thrown in the garbage.

Holy shit, you are the first that I see to use this plastic for the mold. I used the same stuff for smaller builds and always wondered, why everybody here is using that expensive tape. Also, nice build!

Like many of your viewers, I enjoy your creativity, design ideas and execution. I may be in the minority, but when a successful craftsperson with over a half million followers and multiple sponsors complains about paying an extra $75 or even $1,000 dollars, it’s extremely off putting. And making this video about whether or not some overly entitled person pays you $5,000 for your pretty nice table, in my opinion is a poor choice. I hope in the future that you can be a bit more grateful for things and realize just how good you have it, and leave the complaining to those who really need to complain. I hope you take this advice in the spirit in which I have intended it; to have you be the best version of yourself that you can be.

I would point out that these content creators don't make as much as you think they do, and I for one appreciate the breakdown of cost with the expected/hoped for profit.

Wow! Judging the book by the cover much?? Why is it your job to tell him how to be the best version of himself??? especially when you do not know him outside of some videos online!

This is my opinion. He can do with it what he wants. Obviously I’ve pushed some button for you. Sorry if I’ve hit one of your triggers. I even state I may be in the minority of his viewers in terms of this opinion.

The points you try to make may be valid to you.. However, I think it is been seen by most viewers as bringing some lighthearted humor into the mix. Besides that, it seems to me a bit odd to complain about someone complaining... but then again, that could be just me😇

@@henridejong9433 I’m not complaining, but using my skills as an advertising and marketing professional to try and assist someone. The only thing I find strange is your need and whoever else responds to my comment’s need to say anything. As I have said, he is free to do whatever he wishes, as are you. At least my comment was designed to be of some sort of support and benefit, unlike yours. Seriously!

I love that first base you made! I think if you were to stain that a rich color and then put a glass top, it would be a great coffee table!

You should have just filled the center and left it live edge with a very simple metal base and it would be a master piece. What made is beautiful and i hope you sell it. If it were live edge it would have been art. I really how you used the epoxy to make the smaller bowties now that was clever🎉
