Jupiter Lander, for the Commodore 64, see's you use thruster control to land the spaceship on the surface of Jupiter
A rather simple computer game for the C64, in which you have to try to slowly land a spaceship on Jupiter. For this you have three landing platforms. If you make it to land on one of the three platforms with slow falling speed in the yellow range (meter display at the right of the screen), you get points and a refill of the tank
The game is over when the tank display shows zero. The space ship is destroyed when landing with too high speed or when touching the rock walls of the planet

The opening theme in Jupiter Lander alone brings back a million memories - this was the first game I ever played on my Commodore 64. I definitely need to get around to 'Blue Print' too someday, another one of my '1st's' 😇🕹️👌

I loved this game - I had it on my VIC20 and C64 - I always thought the lunar lander on the C64 version looked like a skull or damaged ship - didn't in my opinion look as good as the C64 lander. I soon got international soccer which was the killer game at the time - pls review commodore internation soccer!!! and tennis and basket ball :-)

Great insight into the first released games on the old breadbin I've not played any of them , amazing how much more advanced the c64 games got as the years passed

This is actually a pretty good game, which is limited only in its depth. However I always find myself returning to the game every now and then as its always great to play in short bursts 😇🕹👌

Ah. Now, I remember this game. My cousin had a C-64 and loaded this one up. I mind thinking how entertaining it was. Later on, he put on Zaxxon, but by then it was time to go back to our Gran's. Dammit!!

If i ever find the original cartridge game of JUPITER LANDER - and especially in the original box - for my Commodore 64, that would be retrospectively awesome 😺👍. In fact, i still have two original Commodore 64 game cartridges, INTERNATIONAL SOCCER and CENTIPEDE 😺👍🕹️. Sadly, both of them are loose 😹.

I see it cropping up now and again on ebay but the prices are sometime ridiculous. I'll keep my eye out though and hopefully it'll crop up soon 😇🕹👌

One of the first C64 games I owned :) We used to have family tourneys to see who could get the highest scores. The best bit was having it on cartridge and that instant load :)

Ahh great memories eh! Those are the best memories, simpler times. Yeah loading these cartridges are instant, so easy to just pop in and play. Admittedly am loving the Evercade at the minute for those exact reasons. Hopefully Jupiter Lander released for that someday! 😇🕹👌

I played this on a friend's VIC-20. He had no Datasette and every game he owned was on cartridge, he had like 2 shoeboxes filled with those bulky things, poor guy. Must have been a big dent in his pocket money. Brings back precious memories although the game itself was not very exciting

I remember those things, like a rectangular white contraption. My next door neighbour had a VIC-20, I remember almost feeling sorry for him when I first saw the games he was playing on 🤣 but... there's still a lot of love for that system I guess. Am just glad I was born when I was otherwise I'd probably have had one too 😆🕹👌

This is so much nostalgia for me! Weird thing is that I don't really remember getting the game. I usually have pretty good memory when it comes to that sort of things from the childhood.. Am I remember is that I had it, played it and loved it! And it was on cartridge as well.❤

Yeah those cartridge games were so cool, I dont think there was a really 'bad' one either... apart from maybe Terminator 2! Haha lovely little game this, simple yet addictive 😇🕹️👌

Crazy to think that the first C64 game was made by the founders of HAL Laboratory, particularly because one of the programmers became Nintendo's president and went on to develop the Nintendo DS, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and Switch.

Brilliant, it was probaby the first game for many for the Commodore 64 as well as the VIC-20... I hold this game pretty dearly to my heart, from the iconic music to the memories of playing this as a very small child 😇🕹️👌

Ugh! If only this were caveman themed, and also a lot better! Anyway, I had the VIC-20 version, which was a little more exciting because you could experience some color clash if you got REALLY close to the terrain. With the C64's superior graphics hardware and pixel perfect collision detection, it was just ... oops you're ded.

This was fun, but I had always wished there was some way to have the throttle from the arcade game. That was so awesome and something like it was on the Death Star gun in Star Wars the movie.

When we were 13 (83) my friend and I tried to remake this in basic. E mostly got it working s as a concept but the problem was the drawing of the planet as basic’s graphics routines were painfully slow. But the maneuvering of the sprite which was the lander worked well as well as the landing detection

Never owned this game but used to play the heck out the Atari arcade Lunar Lander. One question: Is the landing screen always the same? That is, is it always those 3 landing pads with no variation on where they are located?
@CheekyCommodoreGamer
@CheekyCommodoreGamer 9 ай бұрын
Always the same am afraid - but for such an early title, this was enough to keep me entertained as a kid. I suppose the capabilities of the Commodore 64 hadn't been explored to its full potential back then 😇🕹️👌

@@CheekyCommodoreGamerFor sure! If programmers back then could see what demo-coders are doing now with the machine in both graphics and especially sound, their minds would be completely blown. It's fun to look at games for the C64 from 1982 onward slowly improve as they came to grips with the hardware's secrets. And new techniques spread fast. As soon as one guy figures out something, other programmers start examining their code to see how it was done and then THEY try to out-do the other guys and the process continues to this day!
