Күн бұрынJURA is the next paid plugin in the MPC/Force eco-system. It's a recreation of the legendary Juno-106 with some modern enhancements. In this vid I walk through some presets, talk features, make a patch, and even give raw comparison to the Roland Cloud Plugout version of the Juno-106.

As a few people have mentioned, Jura is based on the Juno-60. I didn't know this prior to doing this review. Akai didn't mention anything about a 'Juno' except for the 'legendary synth from '82' .... which would've given it away that it was a Juno-60, but I didn't google the release date of all Junos 🫠🤪

@@MediaMusik777 I noticed after I wrote that... it appears to use last note priority style voice allocation, which is like the Juno 6 and Juno 60, and unlike the first note priority of the Juno 106. So it seems they sort of combined specific Juno characteristics into one... which of course they have creative license to do by not making it a specific emulation of any one named Juno model. Either way the result is fantastic.

Loved the video! Tbh I didn’t really recognise the sound of my old juno - but that's probably due to the extra features, which can only be applauded. It certainly sounds nice. Also loved the setup of your video with all the different shots giving a complete overview!

So glad you featured this Tefty - it's fantastic! I wouldn't say it's quite as good as Roland Cloud's ACB Juno-106/60, but the added features and the fact that it's ON MY FREAK'N MPC is amazeballs.

@@obscuresoundz - yeah, I’m thinking the saturation, drive, and analog settings on Jura are either broke or need to be revisited. It’s too subtle to do anything.

Honestly - I think it sounds bloody fantastic. Having this ready to rock inside the MPC is just incredible. Twenty years ago something like this was like a dream that I would have thought could not be possible. Truly we are spoiled with modern options. I absolutely love my MPC X, it just begs to be jammed with and begs me to sample everything. Such a privilege to own one of these, Jura bought - nice review !

Really happy they are releasing this plugin. My main complaint after getting the plugins was the polyphony on the Mini D being too low. This one scratches the analog poly vibe itch I had on the MPC and the introductory price is acceptable, so I'm definitely getting it!

Mini D is probably our second most used plugin on the MPCs, after the Flavor Pro. Those two have been getting WORK. The Jura is probably going to take the number one spot for a while now.

Extremely helpful video! As the Jura Chorus plugin has come out since this was made, I wonder if it includes the reverb aspects of this you were hoping for? Any idea if it does? I started the process of making the jump to MPCs as the center of my set up a while back, but haven't been able to devote the time I'd like. I had the misconception there were many more MPC plugin instruments but was thrilled when I found out about Jura and Mini-D and this has helped me decide that Jura should work well for me. Thanks again.

Well Tefty, jumped on this straight away at the introductory price :) It's great, but agree... analog know does nothing I can tell .... and yes, the volume is very very high... tuned down to 2 here! LOL Nice sound and good interface. I have already got it going in a track - lush. Presumably they will fix the drive and saturation!

On the plus side, you can load it up in your DAW of choice outside of an MPC. Now whether or not you need a Juno recreation in your DAW is another discussion 🤣

Great video, playing of keys, and narration. Akai the sounds do all sound very similar, as the rest of all the tones, the other plugins offer, not sure this stands out from what the “D”, or odyssey.

I loaded plugin, selected INIT and it seens that the analog doesn't change if you hold the pad as you turn knob- you need to let the pad go and rehit to hear the difference. Its subtle but audible.

I have a Juno DS88. How would the mpc+ get along with it? As of yet i don't have a mpc. I have never had one actually, so i have no idea how to use one. I've only seen it on videos.

Thanks for yet another great review. This sounds just right for me. I’m tempted but reading the comments it seems like you pro guys never use these plugins like mini d or now jura here on final mixes. Is that the case?

Thank you! I've used Mini D on many projects at this point. None of your actual audience would be able to tell if you used a plugin over hardware. So my advice, if you're interested, is to ignore the internet comments and make music that sounds good to YOU. That's the only requirement. ❤️

This thing sounds really good. I will say I heard I decent bit of effect from the analog control when I tweaked it on one sound, but I forget what settings I had lol. One thing I hate is how the mod wheel is tied to the lfo same issue with the mini plug.

@@ameeqalli4248 I predominantly sample my own instruments. I play into the MPC One and then chop things around. It's great fun because I come up with stuff that I never would have thought of with the instrument in my hand.

It's funny that a Juno-106 was on sale over the weekend in my neck of the woods for a little under $2K, and then this comes out today. I'm curious to know how it compares with an actual Juno, but at $75, it's a no-brainer to have this on your MPC, so you can emulate these sounds on the go.

That's how I feel .. I've got tons of analog gear to sample, but sometimes I just want a quick pad or lead for a sketch. Jura fits so nicely in this space.

I own a Kiwi'd 106 and an Alpha Juno 2, and this does not sound authentic to me, but I feel that way about all of the emulations. I previously owned the Boutique JU-06, and while it was close, something was just missing. I'm sure it's the unpredictable nature of true analog hardware. That said, I'm sure I'll grab this for my X and Keys. $79 to get Junoesque poly in my MPCs will be hard to resist.

That reverb ain't no joke! Thanks for doing the comparison. I liked the Jura fuller sound more. The extra top-end can be useful for extra sonic textures & it can be filtered down even more precisely with the insert FXs.

What is MINI D? I own an MPC X and I'm finally at the point where I want to load it with better plugins/sounds etc. I only own the built in plugins and I was looking at Fabric XL and some other ones out there and trying to find out which one are no brainers? I'm definitely looking for a solid piano, guitars, strings, bass etc. Anyone know of any websites or the best place to buy add-ons etc. for the MPC X? For the record I use my X mostly in standalone.

Mini D is another synth emulation of the famous Minimoog. I did a review on it on our music channel when it first came out. Overall it's my go to plugin for most basses when working purely standalone (and no other hardware). Fabric XL would be your best bet for an overall rompler addition to the MPC X. BUT! That 2 gig of ram will get eaten up pretty fast if you don't bounce down tracks to samples once your done writing lines. If you keep them all as plugin instances, then the memory will hit the limit relatively fast.

Yeah, if the Sat/Drive and Analog are a bug in your version, they are in the released version too.

Back in 2016 my very first synth was a Juno 60 and I had NO idea what I was doing, just that it was hard to make it sound bad. I no longer have either of the Juno’s I’ve owned but I do have a larger understanding of subtractive synthesis and enjoy the MPC workflow; this couldn’t be more perfect. The sound quality is amazing and the extra parameters (even with a tiny bit of menu diving) make me feel way less shitty about selling my 60 and 106. Admittedly I wish I hadn’t sold the 60 for sentimental purposes but this at least goes above and beyond to scratch the sonic itch.

Looks more like a Juno-60 with the wood ends and the buttons. But the sound... don't know... Also Akai hints of -82 not -84.

Yeah people have been saying Juno60 ... I'm unfamiliar with the differences so I assumed it was a 106. The Akai team didn't mention a particular model because I have a feeling for legal reasons they are staying clear from mentioning 'Juno' 🤣

You had a Juno-X so I assume you didn't keep it as that would have been an interesting comparison, to this. I thought the Jura sounded not as deep when it first came out but I do admit, that reverb feature is worth being a plug-in, in its own right. The Juno-X has a reverb but it doesn't seem that rich as this Jura, ironically. And your are right. Everyone gets anal about emulations but when you mix down a composition and have all the effects, compression and other instruments playing, you couldn't tell one emulation from the other, or an emulation from the hardware, to save your life. Not to mention that 99.99999999% of armchair music listeners don't even know what a plug-in is. They just like the music or not, depending on if the music is well written, not if it sounds accurate.

Hmmm … big mistake… Jura CB is designed to emulate the Juno-60, not Juno-106. The character of the 60 is noticeably different than the 106.

Yup, didn't know this going into the review. Akai's materials didn't mention a Juno-60 (I think for legal reasons) either. I've also never used a Juno-60 before, but honestly I don't think that's the market for this plugin. (producers looking for an EXACT recreation of a Juno-60)

Yeah, I think Akai should include more plugins with the instruments. But I've seen them trying to make more and more money from the software sales side in the last few years.

Good on Akai for doing something like this, but the price is too high, and the synth doesn't sound like a juno. It has a very mediocre sound from what I've seen on youtube.

I have no experience of a real Juno synth, though this sounds nice enough. Lots of other synths out there that make near identical sounds.

Mah... In the end you can get almost the same sounds with all the other plugins... To have the original synthesizer you need the original synthesizer! This is the raw reality.. 🤣

It's more of a convince thing. Having all those presets and quick access for adjustments can SOMETIMES be more valuable than recreating on another plugin.

So overpriced it's not even funny. I despise their proprietary plugins using a free MPC Beats software, running on TWO gigs of RAM. This is 2024, Nokia's in 1993 had more computing power. Cool machines but Akai has been milking their legacy for too long. How do they re-relesse the same hardware in 6 different versions? I've wanted an MPC One for a long time but every time I'm convinced to save my money and forget about them.
