Thank you for joining me as I start this new franchise! I have heard about it and seen the ocassional clip but I am really looking forward to watching them through.
A joyride at a wildlife amusement park, which contains cloned dinosaurs, soon becomes a horrifying experience when a power breakdown afflicts the park and the dinosaurs begin to react violently.

My friend saw it when she was 5 or 6. Her grandma thought she was showing her The Land Before Time, but she somehow got it mixed up with Jurassic Park😂 When she realized her mistake a little while later, my friend was loving every second of it and wasn’t scared at all. She was apparently rooting for the dinosaurs rather than the people.

Imagine seeing this as a kid in theaters in the 90s. Talk about being mind blown. I was obsessed with this film for months afterwards. Surprisingly, there really aren't as many CGi effects as you would think. Much of it is practical with lots of puppeteering involved

It was way better watching it in the drive-in where the warm summer breeze and the crickets chirping really enhanced the ambience and made it feel like you where actually there on Isla Nublar.

Yes! In the T-Rex paddock attack, they had real problems filming as the rain tanks would soak the animatronic dinosaur, causing it to shudder around and breakdown, so in between takes they would have to throw giant beach towels on it to try an absorb all the water. Also, during pre-production, they intended to do everything with stop-motion, but some of the crew who were messing around with computers (early early days of vfx) did a dino animation test and snuck it into a viewing, even though the were told not to, and Stan Winston (who was the stop-motion animator I believe), when he saw the cgi footage, remarked "I think I'm out of a job."

Everyone famously talks about Velociraptors opening doors...what about Dilophosaurus Grand The Autoing Nedry? There was no room in that jeep for it turn and face the open door.

It doesn't matter how often I've seen Jurassic Park, that scene in the maintenance bunker when the Raptor shows up behind Ellie will always get me with the jumpscare. Side notes: The dinosaur sounds in this movie were made by combining sounds made by living animals and everyday objects. The Tyrannosaurus rex, affectionately known as Rexy, was a mix of elephant calf vocalizations (roar, snarls and growls) and a dog playing with a rope toy (shaking the Gallimimus to death). The Dilophosaurus was a mix of hawk, swan, howler monkey and rattlesnake sounds. The adult Raptors were a mix of a walrus chest roar and dolphin mating scream, while the hatchling was a mix of owlet and fox kit sounds. The Brachiosaurus vocalizations were slowed down donkey brays, while the sneeze was a mix of a fire hydrant and a whale breathing through its blowhole(s). The Gallimimus's chief sound effect was made using the recorded calls of a female horse in heat. A good portion of this movie was shot on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Whenever I hear Hammond ask "Who's hungry?", my first reaction every time is "Not after hearing the Raptors rip the cow apart." Lego released 30th anniversary sets in honor of Jurassic Park and the one I have is based on Dennis Nedry's encounter with the Dilophosaurus.

The screenplay was written by Michael Crichton and David Koepp, based on the novel by Michael Crichton. Several changes were made in the screenplay vs the novel. Obviously, some scenes were cut that were in the book. Also, in the book, Alan Grant was a professor and Ellie Sattler was one of his graduate students. There was no romantic relationship between the two, being a teacher / student relationship only. In fact, he even tells Timmy this when Timmy asks if he and Ellie are going to get married. This explanation also explains why there was a kid at the dig site at the beginning of the movie - he was the child of one of the graduate students on the dig. By the way, Crichton was one of the great writers of our time. Besides the novels for "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic Park II" (which I feel far exceeds the sequel movie), he was also responsible for the novel that the movies "Andromeda Strain", "The Great Train Robbery", "Disclosure", "Coma", "Rising Sun", "Congo", "Sphere", and many others. He also created the tv shows "E.R." and "Westworld" (which was a movie first). And he was responsible for the screenplay for "Twister". He was a medical doctor before becoming a writer. He was a prolific writer, and quite a few of his novels have not (yet) been made into movies. Sadly, he passed away in 2008.

I actually didn't know the situation with your son until this video. I was in your son's shoes when I was a kid. I have a great dad, but him and my mom divorced when I was very young. At first, I got to see my dad every weekend. Then, it was every other weekend. At one point, my mom moved us across the country, and I only saw my dad for a month, once a year. But no matter what I was doing with Dad, I enjoyed every minute of it, as I'm sure your son does. Some of my favorite memories and lessons growing up came from my dad, even though I wasn't with him most of the time. The point of my comment, as I haven't even gotten to the movie part of the video, is to encourage you. You may not get to hang out with your son as much as you'd like, but you're still making a big impact on him. And as he grows up, your bond will only increase. Alright, onto Jurassic Park!

I saw this movie with my kids on opening night in a packed theater and needless to say we were all blown away by it! The John Williams score is absolutely beautiful and the scene where you see the first Brachiosaurus still gives me goosebumps 30 years later! My kids and I would go on to see this movie another 5 times in the theater. Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite movies and will forever hold a special place in my ❤ None of the movies that have followed will ever come close to the magic of the OG!!

This is my absolute favorite movie of all time! I saw it in the theaters 14 times when it was first released and then again when they re-released it in 3-D with my daughter. I will never get tired of seeing this film. Thank you for reacting to it! I hope some day that you do get to watch it with your son as well. 😊 ❤🦕🦖

The most stunning part of Jurassic Park is how well it still holds up visually, so many decades later, despite all the advances in CGI and effects. Seeing it in the theater, I think it was the first movie put out in Dolby surround sound, you could hear the T-Rex stomping up behind you and it was terrifying.

My mom-3 weeks out from giving birth to my little brother-went to the movie opening weekend by herself and then took my sister(8) and me(6) the next day. She wanted to make sure she knew when to cover our eyes. 😂❤ She always did that with us as kids. I love that she knew these movies would be special and knew how much we wanted to see them, but was responsible and made sure we didn’t see the scary bits.

Fun fact: Sam L Jackson was supposed to get a chase/death scene, but a real life hurricane destroyed the set in Hawaii where the jungle scenes were filmed.

Your son always comes first. I took my 10 year old twins to see this in the theater when it came out. They loved it. Right now my 4 yr old great-great-nephew loves the movies so much that he has my collectors box of the original trilogy on dvd. It was filmed primarily in Hawaii.

I was 9 when this came out. The papers had mini stories in, there were adverts everywhere, everything was dino mad. We were on holidays in Cornwall with my grandparents and went to the cinema down there to see it as it came out. The screams in the cinema were hilarious. I was obsessed from that moment!

This was filmed at least in part at Kualoa Ranch in Oahu in Hawaii. We went there last year for a family vacation and the sweeping landscapes are truly as amazing as you see on screen. We even stopped for a picnic in the valley where the "flocking" scene was filmed!

I read the book during the 1991 war to liberate Kuwait. Book publishers sent boxes of unsellable copies of many new books for the soldiers. When the movie came out I had been back in the US for a year and then sent to Germany, where I saw it in a US military cinema.

It was awe inspiring when it first came out and I believe it still holds up. The first dinosaur that they saw was so huge and beautiful! That and then the shot at the lake and there are lots of different types of dinosaurs in and around the lake was gorgeous!

I was 7 years old when this movie came out in '93 and this movie just blew my mind. It was fun, and funny, and fascinating, and my first horror movie. I had all the Kenner toys and the backpack. I'll never forget leaving the theater on opening weekend and seeing folks go to the ticket counter to buy a ticket for the next showing. I've never seen anything like it. It really captured everyone's imagination.

Jurassic Park came out around when I was born so I didn't see it until I was 8 or so but I got to see it at a drive in theater which was such a neat experience. We were in my dad's truck in the very back row up against the tree line and we had to huddle in the cab because a thunderstorm rolled in but the movie kept playing- watching the scene with the T Rex and the jeep through a rainy windshield and thunder rumbling is something I'll never forget! (Also the Stan Winston School channel has some really cool behind the scenes videos of the animatronics and puppets they used in the movie, definitely worth a watch!)

This film defined my chidhood, and it resulted in me spending time with someone who would be come my best friend. We actually just saw this again with a live orchestra playing along to the movie over the summer. Hands down my favorite movie of all time.

I saw this movie in theaters 30 years ago when i was 2 years old. It was such a transformative movie for my childhood. Ive seen it so many times I've memorized every line. I recently went to see it again in theaters for its 30th anniversary rerelease to the big screen and it was phenomenal. You know its a good movie when it still makes children leave the theater in tears when the T-Rex makes her first appearance lol

Watched this in a cinema when it came out in 93. I was already 19 (yes I'm old lol), but it was still a terrifying experience! xD T T-Rex scene made me fear for my life, and I loved every second of it. :)

My girlfriend and I went to see it in the theater the second weekend it was open and it was literally standing room only in the theater. We got the last two actual seats and they had people standing in the aisles. It was a total fire code violation but nobody cared.

The actor who plays the little kid in the park is none other than Joseph Mazzello, who plays our boy Eugene Sledge in The Pacific! What separates this original movie as against the sequels is that there was some reverence and respect shown to the dinosaurs as actual living creatures in a sense, as opposed to the more generic monster-movie popcorn action vibes of some of the sequel films. Personally I don’t really care, dinosaurs are cool. Growing up, a lot of us had a “favorite dinosaur” and we’d have our own reasons why. When we stopped this kind of discourse is when we started going down as a society imo 😂 The master John Williams also comes out another banger of a musical score.

25:00 What I love about the whole T-Rex scene is the lack of music. It has so much tension just relying on the sounds of the T-Rex and whatnot! 1993 I was 14 years old, we had this little local Twin Cinema in my town that I saw this movie on opening day. It was an afternoon showing actually with my dad and brother. Let me tell you man, the whole movie blew us away! Such an amazing film for sure! And can you believe it, the whole movie only had 6 1/2 minutes of CGI animation in it? The rest were all either anamatronics or stop motion puppets! But still with what little they could do with the animation was groundbreaking at the time. The movie was actually filmed in Hawaii, and nope, no CGI backdrops back then. We didn't have the tech to do such lush jungles and trees to be that photo-real like that back then.

Fun fact the fear the kids showed when the t rex attacked them in the car was genuine, the rain falling was making the robotics mess up on the t rex meaning the person who handled the robot couldnt contorl it at times.im pretty sure it wasnt supposed to break the glass

I'll NEVER forget watching this as a young lad, sat on the couch while dad adjusted the color on our old tube-type TV. "shoot her" was and still is etched into my brain, even though I didn't understand at the time that people were dying in the movie it was just such a memorable movie opening. And my favorite memory of watching Jurassic Park will always be the moment my dad showed us the "slow-motion" effect on his VCR so we could see frame by frame how the CG dinosaur was chasing the jeep. I can so so so vividly remember watching each fram slowly click into place and just being fascinated that people had worked together to create something so beautiful and lifelike. The fluid motions, the incredible sound design and acting all complimentary to an excellent script adapted from a book I've still never read lol. I just love this film so much it's one of those things I'll always remember about my dad once he's gone. He really showed me the power of creativity after curiosity. That being said, it's easy to hate most of Disney's rehashed BS with all the remakes reboots and rejects. Just stop already. Hire someone with ideas. Real, original ideas 😂

The T Rex attack blew my mind. At that time we had never seen anything like it. It was so real. We had never seen dinosaurs look so real. So lifelike. This movie is perfection. The CGI looks better than modern movies today.

This movie was so epic I saw it 6 times that summer as a kid. It was a brilliant use of CGI and animatronics which is a lost art. Literally feeling the steps of the T-Rex, as the water ripples is a cinematic experience you can never forget...I already LOVED dinosaurs. But then this...

I love the stories from the set with the Mechanical T-Rex they made. It would short out because of all the water being sprayed, so it would move around crazy. also I remember something about the only way to fix a certain thing someone had to climb into its mouth, ya noooooooooooooo thanks

The three Jurassic Park movies are together, and the three Jurassic World movies are together. You don't necessarily need to see the Jurassic Park ones to enjoy the Jurassic World movies. However the first Jurassic Park gives the World movies more context. Glad you're finally starting the series. This one is my favorite movie and it had a huge influence over my interests as a child into adulthood.

I saw Jurassic Park when it first came out. The sound was incredible and I watched it just like you (your arm movements) blocking the view, and sometimes just looking at the top corner of the screen. 😉😁

I was so blown away when it first came out in the cinema I went to see it 7 times! The dolby surround in the cinema was unreal when the first Brachiosaurus came back down after standing up and the T-rex roaring. The sound and vibrations were awesome.

I was about 7 years old when I watched this movie in theaters. Mom and Dad took me because I loved dinosaurs. I remember barely blinking the whole movie, the raptor nightmares for a few nights, and how much I simply adored this movie.

You are by far my favorite reactor! You get all the details, the implications, you're curious, and Scottish - just like John "Spared No Expense" Hammond. "...tried to play God...." Yes. If you're a reader, the book is one of my top 5 favorite books of all time, it was written by a doctor from Harvard, hence the heavy lean into commercialization of science and morality, with a touch of legal ethics. The year this movie came out, Dr Chricton was the 3rd highest paid entertainer in the world (behind, George Lucas and Oprah Winfrey) because he put out the Jurassic Park movie, the ER TV show, and the Jurassic Park book...all in the same year

Fun fact, velociraptors are actually about the size of a turkey or a large cat. The "velociraptors" in this movie are actually closer to utahraptor or deinonychus. They just used the name velociraptor because it sounded cooler. Other than that, all the depictions of the dinosaurs were very accurate for the time. Of course our knowledge had grown since then, and we know that most of the dinosaurs depicted would have had very early versions of feathers, called proto-feathers, that are very similar to the kind of feathers emus have on their bodies. A lot of people think that takes away from the fear factor of dinosaurs, but honestly if you look up current mock ups of what t rex might have looked like, like the one in the indianapolis children's museum, it looks even more terrifying in my opinion. And dont worry about us man! You focus on being a good dad, and we'll be content with whatever you have the time to put out!

Jurassic Park came out when I was in high school. Saw it 3 times in the theater, owned it in nearly every format. I absolutely love this movie.

This was the very first movie I was ever taken to. To this day it’s still one of my favorites and the book is also amazing. I’m glad you’re visiting them. As others have said, your kid comes first. We are happy to get you when we do and I don’t think any of us would demand any more at the cost of spending time with him. The movies aren’t going anywhere and we will wait for one of our favorite KZfaq dads to watch movies and shows with. 👍🏻

family should always come first! well done, sir! and all of the outdoor shots were filmed in Hawaii, if im not mistaken. i was it in the cinema when it first came out. the surround sound was incredible! and dont apologize for swearing. they WERE FUCKING AWESOME! 😁 as for the paleontologists being out of work, i dont think so. what hammond's team created werent true dinosaurs. their DNA was mixed with frog DNA to fill in the missing gaps in the genetic code. really glad you enjoyed the movie! hope to see you watch more of my favorites like Alien ans Aliens along with the Thing and Terminator 1&2. cheers, mate!

I had an epiphany about this movie a few days ago. In the beginning of the movie, Alan is asserting that dinosaurs have more in common with birds than with reptiles. Dr. Hammond says they used frog DNA to patch the dinosaur DNA. Frogs are neither bird nor reptile. I propose chicken or duck DNA should've been used to patch the DNA gaps for two reasons. 1: it better fits with Dr. Grant's hypothesis, as well as our understanding of dinosaur evolution and 2: chickens and ducks specifically experience sex changes from female to male. Female birds have only one functioning ovary, and the other one is underdeveloped and inert. If the functional ovary is damaged by injury or infection, and stops producing sex hormones, the bird may undergo a complete sex change. Plumage, call, and behavior change, and the inert ovary can develop into a testes and produce sperm. It just would've made more sense in the context of the story.

I first watched this movie when I was like 5 years old and it gave me nightmares for months, when the second movie came out, I thought I was would be ok with it since I was now older but nope, more nightmares 😆Still to this day I have an irrational fear of dinosaurs, yet I absolutely love watching dinosaur movies 😆Now I can watch these movies on repeat and always love them.

I saw this film in a theater with my brother when it first came out. I was in college during those years. At this time Jurassic Park was the first of it's kind when it came to CGI. It was the kind of cutting edge technology that no one else had ever seen before at that time. The movie blew everybody's mind including ours. 🎞😲🤯 I believe it won several Oscars. I suggest you watch some of the documentaries on Jurrasic Park. The stories behind it is so good. 🎬🎥⌨️🖱💾🦕🦖🎞👍

Opening weekend 1993 I saw this, was 11 at the time. Most magical experience I've ever had at the cinema :) You said a couple times that the CGI must gave been amazing at the time... and the thing is, they still are. There's a couple bits that are outdated now, but JP's effects stand up to most modern movies. An example, is at 13:02, the big wide reveal of the landscape... that scene is 95% CGI. The only thing real in that scene, is the grass and the trees mid-screen. All the trees and mountains in the distance, the sky, the small trees in the foreground, and the water... all CGI. Even the people standing in the shot were pasted in using CGI. And the rex attack scene: The rex stepping out of the fence and roaring... that entire bit, the cars, fence, rain, everything, was CGI. And the bit that wasn't shown in your video, when the rex has flipped the car, the shot goes to a wide shot, and you see her step up onto the car, and bit at the wheel... again, everything in that shot, the car, rain, ground, background, everything, was CGI.

I saw it the day it came out...waited in line for about 4 hours...LOL! They ended up adding it into a few extra theaters, because there were so many people there to see it. In the early ads, they hadn't shown any dinosaurs, building the anticipation of seeing them for the first time. It was amazing! It was fascinating and scary at the same time. My friend said, during the T-Rex attack on the kids car, it's Spielberg, he won't hurt the kids. All I kept thinking about was poor Alex Kintner in Jaws...LOL! The movie was definitely a roller coaster of emotions, but loved it so much!!

Cheers Kev! Know that we understand the difficulty of scheduling things around the short time you get to spend with Lewis. HE COMES FIRST. Hanging out with your son and building a strong relationship with him is by far the priority - speaking for myself, I'm perfectly happy to get the solo watches, you're fun to hang out with as you experience the movies/shows I'm already familiar with. It was filmed in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. You can visit these sites at Kualoa ranch. There are a lot of other movies filmed there as well.

You keep asking what caused the problems with the park. Was it Nedry sabotaging the computer systems? Was it the storm? It was the hubris of human beings. In the book, the park is already WILDLY out of control by the time our heroes arrive. But only Malcolm notices the signs all around them. In the movie, he just pontificates without any evidence. Everyone else, including the scientists and techs who run the place, *haven't even noticed.* The book STARTS with a little girl on the mainland encountering a dinosaur. It gives the story a very different perspective when the reader knows things have already gone very very wrong from the start. I really wish they'd kept those bits in, because it makes the movie essentially a very different story than the one being told in the book.

In the book, he left his shoe in the door to the bunker so he could see inside. The raptor followed him in from there.
