There is employment law that states that you can be sacked for bringing your employer into disrepute even when not at work. Many people would say that comparing the Government to Nazi Germany brings the BBC into disrepute. There is also the matter that the BBC charter requires the BBC to be politically neutral. We also don’t know what is in Mr Linekers contract - he could be in breach tier all we know. All these reasons are enough for the BBC to suspend him. Personally I think what Mr Lineker tweeted is despicable but don’t think he should be suspended. However I do find it annoying that legally I am required to contribute to his extraordinary salary because the law forces me to have a TV licence even though I don’t watch any BBC programmes.
