I love my car, its expensive and it'll be another few years until its paid off . . In the mean time I use premium fuel , am meticulous with routine servicing, never let anyone else drive it - and even have a special brush for cleaning dust from its nooks & crannies . . . So the thoughts of flooded carpets, stinking mud inside and a £30K engine replacement absolute terrify me. What do they risk it? - it's crazy

I was travelling to an airport a few years ago in the very early hours of a winter's morning. The roads were very icy and I drove very slowly in my saloon to maintain control. Not fast enough though for the Land Rover driver that came up behind me and he overtook me with no consideration for what could happen. Further down the road on a slight bend I came across a man on his phone standing on the side of the road. Behind him was the upended backend of the Land Rover which had obviously lost control and gone straight over the grass bank and down a steep ditch! Overly secure by his 4x4 and driving skills, I wonder if he learnt anything from that.......😏

I really doubt it would - Terrain Response is used to somewhat replicate locking differentials when power isn't being transferred to all of the wheels. All the wheels were spinning just fine in this case, there was simply no traction. Terrain Response (and any other traction control system) cannot generate traction when there is none.

Big problem, people own 4WD and really don't know how to drive them when the going gets tough. I had Classic Range Rover Auto and it was an amazing beast. For traction even with standard Bridgestone tyres in low gear and auto one gear it pulled with no throttle cars out of ditches and a Discovery up an icey driveway.

There is no force in this recovery. The towing eye is far more risky and will fail before the tow ball.

I was at rufford for watching a motorhome being recovered, people were refusing to use the towbar and saying to find the screw in towing eye. That's ridiculous. The towbar is designed to pull 3.5ton up the steepest hill with plenty of safety margin. The screw in towing eye is designed to pull the car onto a recovery truck. And knowledgeable recovery drivers won't even use them for that. The most dangerous thing is lack of knowledge and a heavy foot. The people in these videos don't even know the risk of driving into flood water, let alone recovery techniques afterwards.

Why do they drive like that? I've got an M235i and have driven through pretty deep water but at a snails pace! I'd have written it off if I'd driven like that M140i guy
