@anastunya Unlike you, I'm aware why NATO was formed post WW2. In Kennedy's time, NATO was still relevant. After the fall of the Soviet Union in '89, NATO promised not to encroach its boundaries towards Russia. Step by step, they have broken that promise. Pushing Ukraine to be a new NATO member was one of the concerns Russia has. The other was the eight biological weapons plants placed in Ukraine, which this administration denied the existence of. The aggressive response of Russia was totally avoidable. Cease fire in Palatine, yet no cease fire in Ukraine. Why?

The US Special Military Operation (SMO) in Afghanistan lasted 20 (2001- 21) years. The US lost. The US SMO in Vietnam was 24 years, with "the War" lasting 8 years (65-73). The US lost. The US SMO/war in Iraq lasted 8 years (2003-2011). The US lost. And the US and Western Coalition partners provided robust support. The SMOs (or undeclared wars) cost trillions. And for what? Peace should be our way, not "gunboat diplomacy." It never worked (despite what the history books may teach our kids in schools). One would not expect our top diplomate to be the primary wielder of the military instrument of power. What of diplomacy? Trillions for war. Not one penny for peace. We are backwards in our thinking. . ..

For what? Scrap metal? According to Business Insider, the skies over Ukraine will be “the most dangerous battlefield that the [F-16] fighter jets have faced so far”, as they will be going up against “Russia’s advanced air-defense systems and long-range air-to-air missiles”. John Baum, a retired US Air Force (USAF) Lieutenant Colonel who flew over 2,300 hours as an F-16 pilot, stated that the fight against the VKS would surely be the most challenging ever for the jet. He argues that the first US-led aggression against Iraq in 1991 was “a very, very tough situation”, but that “F-16s from Ukraine going against Russia - absolutely, without a doubt, the toughest scenario that the F-16 will have off of its nose”.
