@@alanhall6909I'd bet that eventually pedestrians will have to run some app (semianonymously) on a mandatory mobile device that communicates with the self-driving cars around to avoid accidents, fairly share the road (i.e. pedestrian will legally have to wait their turn even in middle of the road - on-the-fly crosswalk for the few people who need it exactly there), increase public safety etc. Big brother? I doubt my kids' generation would fear it or politically resist such future.

The combination of FSD (Supervised) being aware of everything that's going on 360° around the Tesla and taking action instantly to avoid dangerous situations, plus a human driver (me) ready to step in when it falters, has proven to be far, far safer than either FSD or a human driver by themselves. All I worry about, whether or not FSD is engaged, is other drivers drying to kill me; and FSD addresses that concern very effectively.

So thanks for the video, and the ride along, that was simply awesome! So full disclosure, I am currently driving on FSD, V12.3.3, and I cannot wait to get V12.3.5, and as you commented, it’s only gonna get better and better and better. So I am an original adopter of this technology, as it was what attracted me to Tesla in the first place, before I knew much about Elon Musk or Tesla, etc. etc. So when I got my 2018 Tesla Model 3, they did not have FSD available, and the best I could get was enhance cruise control, that Tesla labeled traffic, aware, cruise, control or TACC, and so I believe it was in 2019 or so when they first initially offered FSD beta, and I was able to buy in at 3K, and now looking back, I realize that was a very good deal, and so watching FSD beta go from 3K, to 5K, to 8K, to 12K, and then to 15K, and then seeing it reduced to 12K, and now it’s been cut back to 8K, is indeed mind blowing, and I hope it goes lower, because if it does, that means more people will get the chance to experience it the way you and I do today, because let’s face it, there will always be those who will resist until the day they die, to make this change, because change is hard for some people, and so as much as we would like to be able to have them follow us, we must know that sometimes that old saying that an old dog simply cannot learn new tricks, it’s actually true, but in the case of the human, he/she refuses to learn new tricks, and that is the problem, but they need not become our problem, and they won’t become our problem unless we allow them to. So I don’t know how much you think about this, but I try to limit my thoughts about it, because I know that the only person in the room that I can control is me. So why waste time worrying about things you can’t control, and so I try not to think much about these things, because I know I have no control over that which I do not have control over. So let’s just move on, and allow everyone else who isn’t convinced to be convinced by the evidence and the experience of seeing this technology for themselves, as it’s only seeing, and experiencing this technology for themselves, will convince them, but not only it’s a good idea, but that it actually really works too, as there is a reason why we no longer see dinosaurs roaming the earth unless of course you’re talking about the human dinosaurs that simply refused to change. Cheers 🥂

I feel it handles this kind of city driving very well. I find it really gets taken advantage of and struggles in busy suburbs like around Houston. Lots of 4 lane parkways with heavy traffic. It also has a bad propensity to get in the left lane even when not going any faster than right lane traffic. Which, in this kind of traffic where I live does not make you popular with other drivers. Lots of great progress but I have to disengage a lot to not be that car on the road blocking traffic. It's overall very safe and capable but has some work to go still.

My 2020 Y with 12.3.4 does well most of the time but where it really struggles is making a left hand turn where a country road turns and you cannot see what's coming from the right due to trees/bushes. It will literally just bolts across the lanes without slowing or using a turn signal. Had a close call twice due to this. The other issue I am having is again on a country road where we are traveling about 50 mph and are coming around a gentle turn to an intersection with a red light. I can clearly see across the farm fields that the light is red and that there are cars stopped at the light yet the car just barrels around the turn and only aggressively brakes at the last moment. More than once I had to intervene so we did not crash into the car stopped at the light in front of me. It's way better than it used to be but man oh man we have some work to do before RoboTaxi would be a reality in the country.

Just last week, my country Singapore had a terrible car accident. Reckless driving, caused multiple collisions , 2 persons passed away and a few injured. Camera captured the driver drive dangerously by over taking the front car and then swerve back but miscalculate or not sure what happen he knock the other car and he didn’t stop, attempt to run red light and hit the next oncoming vehicle and cause multiple collision.… Imagine all the human carelessness or reckless driving accident can be prevented by autonomous driving.

In Poland 3-4 thousands of people are dying each year in car accidents. Most of them are just like you said, taking over a slower car or with pedestrians. There are reckless or drunk drivers, but a mistake can happen to anyone, especially if someone is tired after a long day. In a good weather condition FSD is already safer than average driver, just because it doesn't get tired. Still a lot to improve, but in 10 years I expect to do not even watch the road and focus on something else.

Tesla shareholder/bull here, have had FSD since prior to V11. Agree with V12 being really great, but in my experience, it is not as good as WMC is stating here. still makes major mistakes, can't get into the proper lane, misses freeway exits, doesn't creep at red light for right turns sometimes, indecisive when presented with 2 lanes to choose from. I believe freeway is still on V11. Hopefully with the new end to end approach and massive increase in compute power we see freeway FSD get to V12 and these issues get resolved quickly. But yeah IMO WMC overestimates FSD ability at this time.

During my assessment of the autopilot feature, I have observed several instances where the system unexpectedly applied the brakes without any discernible reason, leading to near-collisions with other vehicles. Additionally, the system's performance is characterized by a lack of smoothness, excessive distance maintained from other cars, and slow acceleration after coming to a stop.
@BigBen621
@BigBen621 Ай бұрын
Yes, Autopilot does all of these things. But this video is about FSD, not Autopilot, and none of these shortcomings exist in FSD. In fact, one of the most common complaints about FSD, which I have as well, is accelerating *too quickly* after coming to a stop.

FSD is dangerous. It often makes mistakes when you least expect it. Yet, with a supervisor who understands when it's about to crash, it is arguably safer than a human. I'm sure you have seen it rub curbs, hit vehicles (on video in some circumstances), and act quite unpredictable in some scenarios?

He is Dan O'Dowd, who has a competing self-driving software company and he cheats to create videos that make Tesla's look dangerous. Soon, the cars will all communicate with each other wirelessly so they won't need to signal intent with light. They will coordinate for most efficient throughput. Chains of trucks will draft each other for reduced air resistance but will open up to allow cars to get through upon request. May eliminate the need for signal lights at intersections. Automated vehicles will automatically make way for emergency vehicles or any vehicle that signals it is on an emergency mission. Have to admit that I would not like high-status people like politicians to be able to route through faster as everyone else makes way for them.
