IRC is a dated, old archiac protocol with absolutely no security standards set in place, i don't know why you're still holding onto it in modern day, it's full of security holes and lacks so many features.

Found about it yesterday, I set up a simple space real quick and brought my bro into it to game instead of using discord, we were really happy with it, I wish there were some tutorials on how to make bots for it, like a music bot. I am not a programmer so I can't do it without a tutorial
@Denshi Жыл бұрын
There is a set of tutorials available on matrix.org/docs/guides/ I'd recommend reading through them slowly and looking at a lot of examples. Music bots aren't really possible because Matrix doesn't have a native multi-user voice calling feature yet, the closest you can get is Jitsi. Or Mumble.

I think I am still failing to understand *how* it is actually fully decentralised. There are still centralised homeservers that you have to create an account on and if the homeserver goes down then well you have to make yet another account on a different homeserver. Until decentralised accounts are a thing it's just a collection of centralised systems that can talk to each other and not fully decentralised...
@Denshi2 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid that's how it goes my guy To me it makes sense because I run my own Matrix server, and that's what makes it so solid But it's only as decentralized as email really.
@hnguk2 жыл бұрын
@@Denshi I am planning on running my own homeserver and by the looks of things the Matrix team are working on both decentralised accounts & p2p. There is no confirmation as to when those features will be available but when they do come out it would alleviate my concerns around Matrix not being fully decentralised.

When is something fully decentralized? Is there anything centralized in Matrix?

How does it compare to XMPP?
@lexian56022 жыл бұрын
XMPP has less flaws in its design, but is harder to use. Matrix is a good middle ground between discord and XMPP in terms of privacy.
@ChristopherGray002 жыл бұрын
XMPP's OTR plugin is extremely outdated and uses very weak and insecure ciphers, whereas with matrix encryption is required which uses strong, modern ciphers, it is built into the protocol requiring no external plugins

Why do I have to pay for a home server?
@Denshi Жыл бұрын
For complete independence, you'd wanna run your own (like I do with denshi.org), and running any server costs money and electricity. VPS' are cheap and accessible, and running your own server at home can be free if you've already got a computer laying about and already pay for electricity.

I need a f*%king tutorial on the android element, cant figure it out, any of it, my friend and i signed up and we cant even see each other at all...this looks great but stupidly overly complicated, element isnt going to break anything new by overly complicating a chat system the way they have if I cant figure it out, no one in my family is going to use it either.
