Don’t give up on the loo reviews! The quality (and cleanliness) of those facilities are an important consideration.

As a frequent international traveller living in Canada, air Canada has never let me down!

AC has increased their international flights from 200 to 600 flights a week over the past month, I'm thinking it may be related to that because of course they, like most airlines had to lay staff off and by now many of them will have other jobs or decided to move on, and security screening for IDs and retraining takes time. They are also having to remove some services in order to have enough aeroplanes to cope with demand.

I just flew into Canada two weeks ago, and the problems with YYZ are NOT the fault of Air Canada but the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and Canada Immigration. Arrive at the wrong time, and due COVID protocols flights are not able to park, and not allowed to disembark passengers until space is available in the arrival hall. We should sympathise with the flight attendants who cannot disembark until all passengers are off the plane, which could be 4 hours after landing as they only allow about 50 passengers off at a time.

Just flew Biz on Turkish to Poland and LOT Polish to Canada and then AC Signature class YYZ-YVR and AC was superior to the others in all respects! The service director on AC introduced herself to everyone in J and everything was just bang on…even on time! The personal touch was special and I told the SD how I enjoyed the service and she teared up. We are often quick to criticize but should also offer positive comments. 🇨🇦

We are flying to LHR this coming Wednesday (steerage, er, economy class 😁) and you have given me a good clue as to the reason for the rather large number of delays happening to outbound flights…lack of ground crew primarily. This makes sense. We are flying to Toronto from Ottawa and that flight has been mostly on time. Understandable considering the smaller size of the Ottawa airport. Pre covid, there was a direct flight from Ottawa to Heathrow but sadly, Air Canada has not yet resumed that service. I can’t wait until they do. I have never flown business class but I have never had cause to fault the service in economy. I am looking forward to the 777, all of our previous flights to the UK have been on 767s that are now retired. Great video Noel. I look forward to the next one! Cheers!

Problem with all service in Canada is you can fly a 6 hour international business class flight cheaper than I can fly a 2 hour economy ticket flight domestically.

Love to see really good videos of the lounges and the food you grab for yourself...for me that would be the real start of the experience.

I flew on a 787 Dreamliner to Japan in 2018; service was good, food more than I wanted and very good. One thing all Canadians know about Air Canada is - you'd better be on time they are super punctual ! Not sure what happened on your flight but since the COVID thing lots of things have changed. Glad you did enjoy the flight, and your comment about adding a wow factor is right on. They are somewhat of a "stuffy" airline, always have been. Gotta love 'em, eh ??

for me , the best takeoff experience ( smooth and low noise level ) was the 747. it was use from Montreal to Paris in the 90's by Air Canada. even today, I found new airplane not at the same level

Great to see you do an AC review! I've been waiting for one. Personally, I go with Westjet when I can. Just find their service better than AC.

AC usually has a pretty good on time record but I think all the airlines have pretty much given up on on-time records with COVID protocols in place. Having to check all the tests and entry eligibility by hand has meant no flight I've been on has actually closed the doors on time even though they start early and work pretty diligently through the list.

Another great video, i actually quite like when you review the toilets, because its nice to see you out the chair, and moving about.

I used to love flying Air Canada when visiting cities in Canada. Always top notch service every time I flew with them. Toronto and Vancouver were my 2 favorite destinations to visit.

The aviation geek side of me thoroughly enjoys your videos. The traveller side of me gets frustrated as hell with them. You seem to spend most of your time flying in business class. Good on you,, I would if I could afford it. The thing is most of us can’t afford to travel like that. I’d really appreciate it if more of your long haul travel was in economy. Your honest, amusing and insightful reviews would really help me decide which airlines to fly with.

My friend flew from ATL to YYZ back in August an had the exact same issue. They had no crew in ATL to fly the plane and they were delayed for hours. She missed her connecting flight to YVR. She said they had no staff in YYZ to help and they also misplaced her luggage. She will never fly with them again.

That's what happens when Air Canada practically has a monopoly in Canada. We get complacent and accept mediocrity because there's nothing else to fly.

In my experience Air Canada is one of those airlines where if everything goes smoothly it's fine. But the slightest glitch and its either "nothing to see here, just move on, no, nothing at all," or "no, not my fault." Neither response being helpful.

Air Canada is having major staff shortages. Service hiccups as their network comes back online. WestJet (the other major Canadian airline) is also having serious issues. Luckily, when I flew with WestJet a few weeks ago, I had no such issues with them. That might have just been luck of the draw though. Major service disruptions, cancelled flights, delayed flights, and no staff in certain Airports (the WestJet counters at LaGuardia were completely shuttered.) I understand your frustration Noel, us Canadians are going through the same things right now. Edit: should add, when I flew from LaGuardia, I flew with Delta, and there were no such issues with them. I've never had a negative experience with Delta, I just had to walk by the WestJet counters when I had to get a rapid test

Growing up in a frugal family but now having worked hard enough to enjoy some of these things, it would have been so amazing to experience this as a child. Your kids are really lucky, though your son needs to work on his math skills. 🤓

I agree Noel - there does seem to be something missing in AC. Having flown AC business and Westjet business transatlantic in the last 2 months, I do feel like AC could do so much better for just a little more effort. The seats are more comfortable on AC with a wider footwell and have more adjustment and padding (as well as a mattress topper being provided) in contrast to WJ. Although my AC seat didnt feel like it went completely flat. However, WJ do away with that lump of a seatbelt airbag and have 3 point belts instead which improve the sleeping experience. I was disappointed to discover the onboard food/drink choices were limited/uninspiring on AC. Not even a pre-takeoff beverage! I was expecting icewine and other Canadian foods onboard AC given WJ had them. If you are flying AC business/signature on a red eye especially, I would suggest eating in the Signature lounge and giving the onboard evening meal a miss to maximise your sleep - the onboard meal service was slower than expected and eating into valuable sleep time being only a 6 hour YYZ-DUB flight. The Signature lounge was lovely and the concierges did a good job, although you could tell the lounge was underresourced as my food orders took a while and some items were missed altogether by the waiters/waitresses.

Air Canada has never had very good on board service and the food not so great. I will say though I believe they have excellent pilots and the safety factor is very good. I was an air traffic controller at Pearson for 30 years and although we sometimes had our differences between atc/ pilot , I admit I felt safer flying with Air Canada than most other airlines.

I’ve flown Air Canada quite a few times back and forth to, and within Canada. Always been a very average experience. That’s not to say bad, but there’s just no pizazz. This could absolutely be sorted with just a pre-landing chocolate, or some more fun Canadian touches. Canada has a fun, inclusive feel to its culture, so why not play with this?

Living in Canada, and flying with them fairly often I have always had reasonable expectations and they were always met. That said, I think the expectations from many Canadians is arrive early - you probably will be late.

Not enough staff are willing to come back to the industry now. I worked at WestJet for 13 years. I refused to be recalled and so did MANY others. Am a lot happier now in new profession. That should say lot

We flew business class on United Mesa March 2021 and July 2021 being platinum members. Horrible service including attendants talking in the galley for hours causing us to land with the box food service still on the tray table across from us and the seat in front still reclined. They could be bothered to pick service items up, walk around or make announcements. Both planes were dirty including crumbs on the seats and we had to deplane both flights due to mechanical issues. We won’t fly anytime soon even though we have 200,000 travel miles.

Flew from Atl to Toronto on Air Canada two years before the pandemic. It was horrific. No staff in Atl to assist. Once on the aircraft, it was like a Soviet plane from the 70s.

I'm hoping to take my first ever business class trip next year, and it's air Canada I'll be using. So it's good to see your review

As a person waiting forever for replacement hip, I now have to look for 'disabled loo's' to be able to stand up from the seat & take care of myself. Hey… AC being late. LOL! I was not surprised! They are ALWAYS late. As a Canadian, I often have no choice of flying with them and yup… they are late. But you got business class. You need to deal with economy class to know what most Canadians, like me, deal with on the day to day travels. Their economy seats are more comfortable than most US carriers except maybe United.

The second T in Toronto is silent. We locals actually call it rono. You can also see my house in the video so that made my day. To think we were so close to each other lol. You are right Air Canada is kind of meh but to be honest we really don't care for the wow factors when we travel. I used to travel North America and Asia quite a lot in the late 90's and early 2000's and I think way back then you had more of the things setting airlines apart. Now everything kind of looks the same to me. Maybe I am just getting old and grumpy.

I agree Noel, in the air it is just a bog standard biz class, certainly not in the league of Polaris or Delta One. However, was the Signature Lounge closed when you were in Toronto? It is special, it’s dining sets it apart from other NA lounges IMO.

I saw another video similar to this - wow, they complain about how to open the amenities bag? Couldn’t watch the whole thing because of the negativity.

great review, but i can tell you AC is horrible about delays and downgrades. if you travel enough with them it will eventually happen where 1st is oversold and they just habitually downgrade people . when they work , its good but when they dont , it can be ugly

Its nice that they’re good with kids. I’ll never understand the “kids don’t belong in business class” people, I’ve met way more adults who don’t know how to behave in business class and airplanes in general, than children. And many of those adults subscribe to the “kids don’t belong in business class” belief.

I had the reverse issue flying for a visit home from the states a few weeks ago (not saying the name, but there's a Manchester football team named similarly). Got a text early in the morning that my flight had been cancelled, followed by another that I'd been rebooked on flights over 2 hours earlier than expected. There went my relaxed morning and underwear. Got a bump to business though (not related), so all forgiven.

The airline socks are so soft and comfortable. I love them

Hey Noel Air Canada YYZ to Dub or LHR are a just passing grade service. Now you should try AIR Canada YYZ to HKG or any other Asian destination service Economy, Premium, Business all exceptional. Flying within Canada USA, Caribbean, Mexico are a failing grade. This video was a good one though .

2 things 1. Loo Reviews. If it is different or has an issue, show it. If not, don't. 2. Love your reviews and enjoy your vids always. But please, please, please is it possible to not repeat the airline and destination throughout. You are on the flight, we know which airline and where you are going. As I said, love your vids, fixing this would make it perfect.

Air Canada has been reliable and decent. We travel often, and sometimes with our big family (7 kids). They were excellent when our two youngest were babies a few years ago, and we've flown in economy, premium and business class, so we have experienced all levels of service. Our latest flights were YYZ to CPH in business and home in economy. Other than really disappointing communication around delays (and a cattle lot experience at the gate in YYZ) it was all okay. Our luggage arrived, the flight was smooth and decent, and all was, well, fine. The amenity kit was terrible on our flight (a super cheap unbranded zip pouch with socks, earplugs, and eye mask - that's it. So very basic compared to other flights). They are the rice pudding of airlines. I quite like rice pudding, however!

At least you can still fly. In Australia its heavily restricted and subject to sudden lockdowns. International simply not possible!

Please realise that AC are still running on a reduced in flight service due to covid. Slowly but surely things are returning to pre covid time's when the service was/is so much more than what is currently being offered. Also alot of their staff are now returning back to work having been furloughed. Try AC again in a few months time when aviation life is back to normal and you will see how amazing everything really is... its been a bad 18 months for all of us in the aviation industry, I've seen so many friends loose their jobs and now on new paths. Here's hoping we all get back to doing what we love working on or around aircraft... ✈

One thing you did not say is that you are missing the Signature Suites Lounge too. Before the pandemic, you would have been able to use the Signature Suites Lounge which is only for paying international business class passengers. It is still closed despite the increase of number of international passengers and flights. That's why you could only use the Maple Leaf Lounge.

I lived in Toronto for 4 years, flew out of YYZ with Air Canada maybe 50 times. Agree their service and hardware on board is fine, sometimes even great, but not unique. For me the issue was always reliability and delays...tons of delays, nearly every flight. Then to really infuriate me the customer service when a major mistake is made or major delay/cancelation was inept and almost condescending. Living in Japan now, so maybe Im spoiled with the Japanese carriers, but North American airlines have a long way to go before they match Asia/Middle East/Oceanic carriers. In my opinion.

I agree that Air Canada is missing a certain something in Business Class. That said, they are dependable. Has Economy improved as we move out of Covid?

Air Canada is a great airline. Any problems by air Canada have nothing to do with the airline.

1. That “welcome” while boarding is what we get on WizzAir, a budget airline in Central Europe. That’s not what I expect while boarding full service airline’s business class, especially with an elderly looking gentleman who just arrived in a wheelchair. 2. The expected mask n bits with a signature from the chief medical whatever? Please. 3. Continue with the loo reviews, we like them! Happy landings!

Great report Noel !!!!!!! As a Canadian myself, I am not a fan of Air Canada. It’s. a first class airline, but like the rest of the US carriers, ithe Business Class service is standard and nothing new. The truth is that the only ones that have something special or different are some Europeans (when Alitalia was flying their Business Class Magnifica was SUPERB), the Asian ones and some from the Middle East (Qatar-Emirates-Ethiad, etc). If I get on the plane without knowing what airline it is, I can say that it is Delta, American, United or Air Canada, even the uniforms are similar !!!!
